  1. Imho, not healthy to re-open healing wounds: comparing players we could have drafted instead, players we shouldn't have traded, players we signed who aren't producing... This is sunk cost. If we really need to do that, then spend some time focusing on the other positive things. Nobody bats 1000.

it would matter, if bringing it up, somehow reversed the trade or draft pick. i haven't heard that that has happened before. what is, is.

We shoulda drafted Boeser.... oh wait. For once we did get the prize! :P

Historically, the draft has been a swift frozen mukluk to the arse

& trades have mostly turned out for the better, with ONE infamous-exception.

Acceptance & that 1st Cheech/Chong flick will see you through...

  2. If Craig Button's list holds true by draft time, even if the Canucks draft low, they could still end up with at least one of my pre-season 2018 draft targets: Ryan Merkley (13) and Joe Veleno (25). See: http://www.tsn.ca/craig-s-list-dahlin-dominating-one-canadian-in-top-10-1.915356

That’s good, but would still rather pick top five again.

  3. I agree with Gaudette, Lind and Gadjovich not being in the NHL at the start of the season. But you don't pay Gagner that much money to be the extra forward. I also think that both Dahlen and Pettersson will stay in Utica to have more seasoning on the North American game and ice. I believe that Goldobin will probably make it to the Canucks. I believe that this season, the Sedins are trying to convince the Canucks brass and themselves that they can still play as top 6 forwards. It's not looking good right now so they may not be back next season.
  4. Good, good sporting night. Boeser with a hatty, Horvat with 4 points, and GSP wins his comeback fight!

  5. Canucks hat trick! Didn't think I would see it again in my lifetime. Two more Boeser goals for today's game and Safeway would not pay up a million dollars.

  6. Apparently, Casey Mittelstadt had a shoulder alignment problem during the combine and that's why he couldn't do a pullup: http://www.startribune.com/casey-mittelstadt-lifting-gophers-with-strong-start-to-college-career/454779223/

  7. Yet another tied score (and blown save) in today's World Series game! So many bowed heads and folded hands...

  8. I guess we should call them Golden Knights after all. They will soon have the league-best record after 9 games with 8 wins and 1 loss. Imho, their record is even more amazing than that of the Canucks and the Avalanche.

  9. That physicality in today's game is why Gudbranson will get his pay day from the Canucks.
  10. When Dorsett scores, the game's all over!

  11. Good points. That said: a friend of mine who has been a hockey fan since he was in diapers keeps telling me that the reason why hockey players are not allowed to wear cages (even though it will probably prolong their teeth and careers) because the NHL wants to market the hockey players' faces given player A and player B with similar production but player A is better looking or has more charisma, etc.; team and NHL will use player A more for their ads A lot of hockey players are quite vain about their hair. That may be just to get dates, but I suspect they know that there's marketability involved in it.
  12. What I'd really like to know is: how much does he weigh right now?
  13. You shouldn't just quote out-of-context like that - as you can see, I put it low on my list. But fyi, among other things, here are some questions the sports agent asks: how does my client bring more wins to the team how does my client compare to the other players in terms of production how does my client add revenue to the team That last question should not be ignored. Even though it's not the only factor, good looks results in more advertising dollars, more sales of jerseys, more sales of tickets. It opens up a market (e.g., female market) that may be previously not tapped enough. It's similar to how race plays a factor as well in marketability as well. If a particular country is under-represented in a certain sport and all of a sudden, a person from that country makes it, that team's jersey sales go up for that particular country. I know this first-hand, btw.
  14. They're ready to mention the following: leadership - he's supposedly Captain material size physicality - they think this is missing in the Canucks' lineup demand for his services - Florida wants him back marketability - gotta admit it, the guy's got good looks his still remaining potential as evidenced by where he was drafted All that said, if the Canucks get him signed for between 4 to 4.5 million per year, I'm Gud with that.
  15. I think it will come down to money - Gudbranson and his camp will be demanding first-line-D money.
  16. Apparently, Virtanen in Swedish means "Viagra for identical twins".

  17. Derek Dorsett currently has more goals than Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel. Just saying. :P

@vinny_in_vancouverYou're overestimating their past defence and past bottom 6.  For several seasons they had one of the worst defenses in the league.  It's still pretty mediocre this season.  They've improved their bottom 6 this season but the 2,3, and 4th lines aren't contributing.  The top line of Eichel, Kane, and Pominville are creating nearly all of the offense.

@SabreFan1 They definitely sacrificed their D, but it's still a team game, and they have enough forwards that are supposed to be two-way players. What gets me is that even with all of that O talent, they still have games where they are not able to generate enough O. Imho, they should be just as good offensively as the Leafs. I definitely think they're underperforming and guys that are supposed to be the leaders are somehow not able to impose their will on the team. But your team has the assets to get the D help that you need - unfortunately, your old GM Murray seemed very attached to all the forwards he has brought to the team. Imho, with just a few moves, your team can contend (there, I said the 'C' word).

@vinny_in_vancouver I pretty much agree with that.  I wish I knew what their major malfunction as a team is....  It's quite frustrating to watch.

  18. Wow. I know it's early, but imho, Derek Dorsett has arguably been the Canucks' MVP this season. He has played a shut-down role well, throws out timely hits, fights for his teammates, and is tied for the team lead in goals.

My only fear is that he'll be robbed of the Vezina and come in 2nd based on anti Vancouver Bias.

  20. Imho, match made in hockey heaven - put the following on the same line: Eriksson Current strengths: veteran; goals near the front of the net; defensive play Current weaknesses: can't create any plays for himself Bo: Current strengths: best skating center in the team Current weaknesses: sub-par on the defensive side Green tells Eriksson: get the puck out and give it to Bo; skate as hard as you can to the net and stuff the rebound in. Hopefully, that gets Eriksson to 25+ goals. At the end of the season, if we have top 6 wingers ready to join the team who we think can replace his production, ask Eriksson nicely if he wants to waive his NTC.
