From what I have read, Dubois has been playing very well this pre-season for the Jackets. He has a solid chance of making the roster.

I've only seen Elias in 2 places: his full games on WeatherWise's highlights where he was playing against international competition highlights on YouTubes such as the ones posted here There's no doubting his skill and motor so I like that we picked him, but he wasn't dominant in international competition (he was pushed around) - but mind you, he was playing wing. And on the highlights, as I mentioned, the D doesn't look good. So it's hard for me to get a bead on whether he will actually be dominant right now against good competition.
-
Maybe it's just the defenders in some of the highlights then that needs quite a bit of work? Some of them are neither physical nor fast and there are times when he's completely left open or the positioning's quite poor. Reminds me of Makar's competition.

Those are great highlights, but the competition seems quite weak. Is that really a good league?

[GDT] 2017 NHL Entry Draft

They don't always fill out. I know a lot of guys whose frames are wide but whose metabolism is very high and they're lean and strong but could never fill out. One of the things I love about Elias is his non-stop motor, but I'm wondering if that speaks to a high metabolism. Also, some people "fill out" but lose explosiveness. Again, I know some people who are like that. Benning actually had to address this concern about not filling out: "We’ve already asked those questions about his brother and how much he weighed and stuff. Elias is not real heavy right now, but he’s wiry-strong and has good balance on the puck. If he can get to 185 or 190 pounds like his brother, with the balance he has on his skates, he’ll be plenty strong enough." Notice the word 'if' and not 'when'. There is a risk. I do like getting him as I'd pay money to watch him play but as for whether he would have gone ahead of Patrick with just those numbers, I think you're overrating that league and forgetting that Elias didn't have good numbers in international competition and Sweden didn't even put him at center. -
At the end of a successful season last year, Comtois looked like he was ready to break-out and dominate this year, but instead, he seems to have plateaued. Kinda like Liljegren. That said, Comtois was part of the CHL All-Stars and also part of Team Canada U18 so enough people still think highly of him.

The only reason they want to move to Vancouver's spot is if they think that another team (not Vancouver) wanted Glass badly enough that they are willing to trade with Vancouver. Perhaps they were concerned about the Rangers? When the Rangers made a trade for 7, Vegas realized that they didn't need to be worried after all. As for what was offered, it all depends on how badly Vegas wanted Glass - given that there were other Centers available, it probably wasn't much.

I think the player that Benning really liked that was gone by 20 was Liljegren. He tried to disguise it by not bothering to interview him.

Vilardi played mostly Right and not Wong...

I have a feeling Benning likes Jaret Anderson-Dolan: https://canucksarmy.com/2017/06/05/nation-network-prospect-profile-25-jaret-anderson-dolan/ -

So other than Nico, which of the picks so far have a decent chance of being in the NHL next season? Pettersson is at least 2 years away with his thin frame. With all his injuries, Nolan will probably stay 1 more year. Heiskanen maybe? Makar and Mittelstadt are going to college for at least 1 year. Vilardi and Glass are projected to stay at least 1 more year in juniors. -

Not only that - he probably has interviewed our very own Jonathan Dahlen who has played with Pettersson the past 3 years. I wouldn't doubt it if Jonathan told him about Elias' IQ, drive and character. Benning knows him through and through. That's probably the biggest reassurance for me. -

Apparently, Vilardi's from South Italy whereas Aquilini is from North Italy and that matters... -

They probably offered their lower 2 first round picks and Vancouver felt that Pettersson would have been gone by then. -

Hmm, Pettersson stayed the same weight and he became a top 5 pick. Weight Watchers, anyone? -

So Elias Pettersson has also played wing quite effectively. I wonder if he can start out there while he's still filling out... -

Guys, we don't know for a fact that Vilardi has a bad attitude. From what I can see on the ice, he's an amazing and unselfish teammate. Let's just chalk it up to skating because he is quite slow. -

No wonder every time reporters kept asking Benning about Cody Glass, he kept demurring and mentioning that other players also fit the playmaking centre requirement... -

Couldn't they have gotten him a better-fitting jersey? That looks like he stole it from somebody much older...
