  1. If you want to be even more technical about it, apparently, his brain is rock solid and violates the latest findings on neuroplasticity. Seriously, guys in this forum that post about how we don't learn or about how our brains don't change after a certain age need to read the latest research.
  2. Had a dream where Subban was still with the team and 2 of our forwards got food poisoning on game day where the game was in Vancouver and so Subban was forced to play forward and ended up scoring a hat trick...

I'd be so down for trying him at forward if need be. Then let him play the point on the power play with Stetcher.

I don't know why people think Subban would be a good forward... He isn't that type of player. He's good at walking the blue line and getting good shots to the net or setting up others. He doesn't play the style of a forward and wouldn't fit in.

He will need to learn the position, but we've had a few D-men in the past (e.g., Rome) who were able to fill-in decently as a forward. Lots of YouTube videos where you can see Jordan moving in to the traditional forward positions on offense and scoring goals.

  3. I wish I am a betting man - then I would have at least 15 years to prove you wrong, and I would like my chances with Virtanen with the Canucks.
  4. All of the posts here will make it all the sweeter once Virtanen is averaging 30 goals a season in the NHL.
  5. Reigning MVP Stephen Curry on being the 4th-highest paid player on his team: "One thing my pops always told me is you never count another man's money. It's what you've got and how you take care of it. And if I'm complaining about $44 million over four years, then I've got other issues in my life."

  6. 4 SOG in 1st period after all the Canucks' talk today about the need for fast starts reminds me of how far this team needs to go before on being competitive enough to enforce their will.

  7. I also believe that there will be an ah-ha moment for him. His style of play reminds me of my son - very instinctive and emotion-based. When his emotion level stabilizes, he'll get it in a big way. I think it happens in 2 years' time. For the record, if he ends up staying in the AHL next year, I won't have a problem with it. I think his physical tools are off the charts and his skill level seems to be under-appreciated here (based on what I've seen him do, I know that he has spent hours practicing a lot when he was younger).
  8. You want to compare Tkachuk playing with pretty good teammates with Virtanen playing with no-names? Have you seen our Utica lineup? You put Tkachuk there without the likes of Virtanen, and I'd be shocked if Matthew would have 24 points in 37 games. If you're going to compare, try to do it apples to apples - come on, man!
  9. Drafts are always about comparisons so he'll always get being compared with Nylander and Ehlers who seem to be first-line players. I think the world of Virtanen, and I think 30+ goals within 3 years from now is doable for the kid.
  10. That's my own personal standard. If he's not hitting that by then, then I'll jump into the "Virtanen is a bust at number 6" camp.
  11. We had the V-formation line a while back too: Virtanen-Vey-Vrbata.
  12. My expectations are similar as yours, but I'm expecting him to be getting about 30 goals a year in 2-3 years playing in the top line and causing the other team to commit penalties.
  13. And...just like that, the Vancouver Canucks have the longest winning streak currently in the coolest league in the universe!

  14. Just to make sure you understand - I like his production right now and I like his grit when he was with the Knights. But I still expect more because he grew up in a hockey household with a lot of money and with a Dad who's also a forward. Here's what I would have expected to see if his ceiling was really high: somebody who when he has the puck is a lot more creative and a lot quicker somebody who can skate faster than what he has shown right now Let's see where we're at 3 years from now when Juolevi should already be in the league. If he's among the consensus top 5 best players from this draft then and Juolevi isn't, then obviously I was wrong and so were Benning and Linden.
  15. I think you skipped the second part of my post about 'ceiling'. If Burrows is the ceiling, then it is tough. As I said in the post, because of his Dad, he probably has been taught and trained a lot more than the other kids in the draft, and yet, even now, when I see him play with the puck, he tends to be only complementary and not creative. Honestly, with his pedigree, I expected more.
  16. You would draft a Burrows (even at his prime) at number 5 in this past draft? As much as I love Burrows, that's tough to digest. The Canucks badly need forwards who can create plays from nothing. My main concern with Tkachuk is I'm not really sure how much higher his ceiling is - his Dad is one of the best players of all-time and they have deep pockets so you know that he has been taught quite a bit and has been through a lot more training than the other players, but what I saw pre-draft is a player who is complementary and opportunistic rather than creative.
  17. I'm a big Nolan Patrick to Vancouver guy, but Hirschier to Vancouver is really starting to grow on me. Still waiting to see some complete games of Liljegren to see how good he really is.

I'd love nothing more than to have 2 top 5 picks at the draft, but I don't think we'll fall to that in the standings, nor do I see us moving a combination of NMC players and prospects to a bottom feeder that wouldn't cripple our own prospect pool. Top 5 picks are rarely moved.

If we could get a center and another solid defenceman prospect in the top 10 I'd be thrilled, but I ain't holding my breath.

It's still Patrick to the scouts.

  18. If he was with the Canucks, how many points do you really think he would be scoring?
  19. May you all have a blessed Christmas!!!

  20. Well, perhaps I over-reacted. But in a game where players can easily suffer injuries that have potentially severe life-long impact (think about all the hockey-related suicides that were possibly due to brain damage due to concussions), I think it's important that people stay away from making light of comments about hoping others to have injuries. When you doubled down after I mentioned about the sacrifices (and they talk about concussion risks already since Atom) made by my son and others playing hockey, that shows that you didn't get it. It looks like my restating it by making you put yourself in our shoes finally did the trick.
  21. Sure didn't sound like a joke the way you've been defending it and crazily doubling down in your responses. Who was questioning? I don't see any posts asking any questions. I was just restating what you doubled down on to make sure you understand what you're implying.
  22. I can see you telling your children, "It sucks that you didn't make it. Let's hope that those other guys get injured so that you'll make it." Those are loser sentiments.
  23. You want one of our players to have an injury??? Do you even have any idea how much sacrifice it requires to finally being able to play for Team Canada? My son tried out for Team BC and didn't make it - he sacrificed so much of his life to even get to that point. Please try to put yourself into the people's shoes before posting about things like this.
  24. Love seeing the young talent in our D-corps but we need Edler and Tanev back ASAP.
