I'm sorry you had to go through that. I have a friend who is in the same boat as you - ex in the US trying to prevent the kids from coming back here. But child abuse, man. Tbh, my own first response to the original article was, "possibly nothing more than just a cash grab", but then I encountered the CBC article, and I was like, "crap, that's bad." Defenseless kids fearing for their lives. I didn't grow up in this country, and in my country, I got spanked with a leather belt more than a few times, but I never feared for my life. I love my Dad and always felt that the punishment I got was well-deserved for what I did.

Wow. That's what I thought so at first, but there are ways - character witnesses showing how well you took care of your kids, knowing the timeline of when the alleged assault happened and proving you're not there, lie detector test, getting call records of the alleged time when the child supposedly phoned the Mom, etc. Oh, and in this case, you have multiple accusers corroborating each other. If it were only the wife or only one of the kids, then maybe you give him the benefit of the doubt, but all of them agreeing on the same incident?

[Report] Canucks fire Rachel Doerrie
Vinny in Vancouver replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Canucks Talk
Sean Avery: Martin Brodeur as well? -
No university would require that (I hope), but if I really want to go crazy (e.g., if I'm in the medical field and want to have the best possible chance), I can easily accumulate tens of thousands of software cost. It's pretty crazy how expensive some of these software are - especially computer graphics-related, animation-related.

I understand that time argument as well. The best guess I can offer is that the Mom wanted to protect the kids (they were still so young in 2013) or she was scared of what the Dad could do to them. I'm sure Gary Bettman (who used to be in the NBA) is very concerned about this - as can be seen by the intense reaction, this is a bad look for the NHL ownership club. Unlike what happened with the Phoenix Suns where there were many witnesses this case is a bit different since it's a family affair. So how far any independent investigator can get will depend on the cooperation of all the parties involved. We should get a statement from him soon. Unfortunately, our players and coaches are about to get asked a lot of questions about this. I suspect that a lot of them are privately already demanding an explanation from Francesco - who probably is denying the accusations. I expect that those players who have doubts will be affected by this, unfortunately, in their on-ice performance as that's just human nature when the accusations about your owner are this bad.

How old were the kids when they admitted to lying? In this case, the kids are already adults and are doing well mentally and have promising futures. In fact, it sounds like the eldest actually is no longer able to get support money so money is no longer a factor. So the coercion excuse doesn't seem like it holds much water here, no?

I followed what happened with the Phoenix Suns this past few weeks, and the players were so disgusted with the owner that it would have been hard for them to play well this season for that owner. If I were part of the Canucks organization, as a parent, it would be hard to work for a guy who did that kind of abuse that seems to be being corroborated by all the kids and still continues to deny it.

Ok, I did some more reading and there's more information here: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/canucks-onwer-child-support-payments-1.6598208 It's Aquilini's kids that are alleging the abuse and not the ex-wife. Here's an affidavit letter from one of Aquilini's children: "The respondent [Francesco Aquilini] then forced all of us upstairs into our individual rooms, went to each room to physically abuse each child. I saw the respondent throw another child — at that time five years old — across the room. I locked myself in my bathroom. The respondent broke the lock and was throwing his body at the door to come in and beat me. I called the claimant [Tali'ah Aquilini] and asked her to hurry home, stating I was scared the respondent would kill me, and I was worried that he had already killed my younger siblings." So unless there's something wrong with the kid's recollection or the kid's lying, that's pretty bad.

[Report] Brock Boeser out 3-4 weeks
Vinny in Vancouver replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Praying for Brock to come back 100%. Man, Canucks Luck couldn't wait for the regular season to start... -
As an aside, I just checked and last year, Bo's was 57% - 8th best. JT Miller's faceoff percentage was 54.1% - 24th best. Not bad. Btw, surprised that Auston Matthews actually did pretty well. Influence of Malhotra, perhaps?

I understand why you would think that way, but I think if you go to most of those teams' forums and tell them that you'll trade Bo for their 1C, you would get shot down.
