  1. I just figured he had a crap season in TO. Actually had his second highest point total that season.
  2. didn't realize how good of a season he had with the Leafs. 45 points is really good.
  3. That was absolutely gorgeous. Makes your head spin.
  4. Hes playing on a line with Scheifele and Perrault....neither of whom are particularly physical. That line is so good because of the enormous amount of skill on that line. He's just skilled enough to open space for himself with his speed. Management just screwed up big time by drafting Jake over Ehlers. The kid is the real deal.
  5. it'll be nice to see an elite talent like Ehlers in the peg for many years to come. Hasn't happened since Selanne.
  6. I honestly haven't seen much of anything offensively out of him. Just looks like he's in way over his head in this league. Needs to go back to junior.
  7. So Ehlers has his 2nd of the year, and was a post away from his 3rd. Also has 5 points in 6 1/3 games. Does everyone still think we made the right choice at 6th overall?
  8. He's training with Gary Roberts, so he's going to be in crazy shape once he gets to the 'burgh.
  9. Possibly. Hopefully Vey can take a big step forward. Seems like a good guy in the room.
  10. I know . We're still too good of a team. I don't see McCann being that kind of player. Mostly a finisher, and not terribly creative (he does show flashes of dynamic creativity though, but not consistently). He probably has the best release and accuracy on his shot out of everyone in our prospect pool though.
  11. Unless Virt improves his cycle game, I don't really think he would have chemistry with Hank. The Sedins would be at their own blue line with the puck while Jake is already a zone ahead of them. The speed difference is immense. I know they have chemistry with the Honey Badger but he can cycle the puck very well, in addition to being lightning quick. Like you said, he would need a centre who excels on the rush, someone like Monahan, Carter, Giroux, or Johnson. Tank 4 Matthewz maybe??????
  12. Umm......I literally stated 3 facts in my post: 1. The Hitmen don't have great coaches 2. Besides the coaching, the Hitmen made it to the conference final, making them one of the top 4 teams in the league that year. If that constitutes being a "bad team", then what does that make the teams below them? 3. The Hitmen made it to the conference final, as I had stated in point 2. But no just call me names. Makes you look like a child and harms your credibility in an argument. You're just helping me out.
  13. Henrik might be around for another 5 years, and I doubt Willy will play him with Hank anyways, unless he really improves his cycle game. Plus, if he does get some playing time beside Hank, he will when he's very young. I doubt we'll see him scoring at a first line rate by the time he's 22-23 years old. That would be EXTREMELY impressive. I haven't back tracked. I've stayed by my original argument that Jake Virtanen cannot make himself an elite goal scorer in this league. The only way he could do that is if he is playing next to an elite playmaking centre. If Jake pots 20 goals per season on average, I'd honestly be happy with that kind of production out of him. He brings many other things to the table other than scoring, the biggest being his physical play. I'm just bummed that we picked him at 6th overall......could have had Ehlers.
  14. ......seriously? Jeez some people need to temper their expectations when it comes to our prospects. I'd say out of all of those guys, Horvat is the only one with a chance at a first line role.
  15. I wasn't trying to prove that he has elite offensive awareness. I was proving that he makes his linemates better.
  16. http://www.pensburgh.com/2015/7/13/8925329/phil-kessel-advanced-stats-pittsburgh-penguins Read the article before you just stick your head in the sand.
  17. For sure, DeNiro. If we could somehow get our hands on an elite playmaking centre, Virt would shine.
  18. Jake has had poor coaching, but he hasn't played for a bad team. The Hitmen made it to the conference finals this year.
  19. Kessel's PPG isn't as high as other players below him. However, you have to remember that Kessel has played for the frickin Leafs for the past 5 or 6 (?) years. I think people will finally realize that Phil Kessel is one of the best players in the league this season. Wouldn't be surprised if he won the RR trophy. EDIT: Also, Phil Kessel DOES make his line mates better. I can pull up some stats to actually, you know, back up my claims.
  20. I guess I probably should rephrase the point I'm trying to make. If you put Jake on a line with a centre like McCann or Horvat, who will both be pretty good, two way centre men, he won't be an elite scorer. In order for Jake to be an elite scorer in this league, he would need to play with an elite playmaking centreman. Jake doesn't have the offensive ability to be "the guy" on a first line in the NHL. However, he would be a very good complement to an elite playmaking centre.
  21. Even though over the last 3 seasons, Kessel is 9th overall in points? Nah, not elite at all. http://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/seasons/last-3-nhl-seasons-players-stats.html
