  1. In the recent TWITCH stream on Herman Li's channel (lead guitarist for Dragon Force, he had as his guests two members of Band Maid, Miku and Kanami - the song writing duo for their band. Miku handles most of the lyrics and is the rhythm guitarist, Kanami is the primary composer and lead guitarist. One of the topics for discussion was regarding the fastest songs that each group plays. Li wasn't exactly sure about Dragan Force's song list, but responded that their fastest was maybe 225 BPM ("The Game" has been listed at 240- follows). The reaction to this from the two Maids was interesting to see. Miku kind paled at Li's comment. for the fastest tune that Band Maid have put out is "Black Hole" (220 BPM - follows) from their latest album, and it was challenging for them to get it right, but hoped that their band could play it live at some point in the future. Kanami was like, "225? Challenge accepted." Kanami being Kanami, it wouldn't surprise me that she did some research on Dragon Force songs and aimed higher. regards, G.
  2. Well, I'm thinking this topic (along with the Virtanen and Bennett threads) should be moved to the "Proposals and Armchair GM'ing" section for lack of relevance beyond the "rumour" aspect of this Discussion section. regards, G.

  5. I'm looking at the Canucks players on the Cap Friendly draft simulator: https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft/seattle For forwards there are the usual suspects who will be protected: Boeser, Horvat, Miller, Motte, Pettersson with two slots remaining. The most likely players (most likely to most people) who will fill the remaining spots will be Gaudette and Virtanen. I believe Virtanen is (and will be) a better player than Heinen. Assuming Virtanen were to be traded for Heinen, would you use Vitanen's vacated spot on the protected list for Heinen, or would you use it for someone else? The point of the question is, if Virtanen was still with the Canucks at the time of the draft, then I believe it would be likely that he would be protected, and therefore another player viewed by many to have greater, current utility would be drafted from the Canucks (say Myers). If Virtanen were left unprotected (in favour of another forward), then I believe he could be the likely candidate to be taken by Seattle, leaving the Canucks with a guy they'd prefer to keep, but have to leave exposed. So, assuming Virtanen were to be traded for Heinen, would you protect Heinen or not? And is he worth protecting, rather than using him as bait in an attempt to keep Myers, or another forward prospect (eg. Lind). And if he is potentially expendable as a chip in the expansion draft (for those who would leave him exposed), then why bother to trade Virtanen, at least not until after the expansion draft? regards, G.
  6. I admire your optimism that Murphy could be had for just a 3rd, let alone a 4th round pick (and I do see the off season where Schmidt was traded being different from the period of time coming up with both the cap situation and the draft being factors). I'm more inclined to believe that Chicago (as well as other teams in a similar position), will go for a hockey trade and move out a player like Murphy for higher picks, players and/or prospects prior to the Seattle expansion draft. If they do lose a player who was part of such a trade, no big deal, the remaining piece(s) are still there, and the value would (likely) be more than a 3rd round pick. If Chicago was concerned about losing Murphy in the draft for nothing, could they not move him after the season is over and get a comparable guy who strengthens another part of the team, say a goalie or a forward? The thing that I do see is that not a lot of GMs will be sitting on their hands this off-season. regards, G.
  7. True enough. Wellfed was sometimes a perfect example of a very good 3C (at faceoffs, checking, as well as chipping in some points). The rest of the time... regards, G.
  8. All in on this with you, however, Laughton will be a UFA at the end of the season. If the Caqnucks did want to make a trade for him, as part of the deal I'd first want the Flyers to re-sign the guy to a contract which the Canucks could live with (3-4 years and as much as $2-2.5 million per?), and then bring him here. I'm also assuming that the Flyers will be upfront with Laughton letting him know that a trade is in the works prior to him signing. Or, the Canucks can try their luck after the season is over. regards, G.

  10. It's true, lots of people comment on the quality of your wardrobe. regards, G.
  11. Just curious, but aside from Horvat, Petersson, Boeser, Hughes, Demko, Miller and perhaps Juolevi, who do we think could get a significant level pick from what is left? There certainly aren't going to be any 1st, 2nd and maybe not even any 3rd round picks coming back for how the remaining members of the team are being described. Playing the 22/23 year olds might create a feel good moment, like walking down memory lane to the early seventies, but the team will not have any greater success in the standings, and most/all of these younger players may sink rather than swim being thrown into the deep end of the pool without a life preserver. Perhaps the biggest advantage is that the team would save a lot of cash on salaries. regards, G.
  12. Meh, I need food. Make sure that Shorty and Cheech know I won't be in front of my TV so when the Canucks score they can talk really loud, and very excitedly to alert me. regards, G.
  13. Hey, words hurt, especially for guys like that chucklehead Smith. regards, G.
  14. That shot of Boeser getting "adjusted" is going to go viral. regards, G.
  15. What is this lame entry music that the team has been using? regards, G.
  16. That's because of the Seattle expansion draft requirements, no? Teams have to leave at least one d-man who is under contract for next season, has played X number of games and stuff like that. The Canucks have only two guys who meet those criteria, Myers and Schmidt. Looking at the forwards who will likely be made available by the Canucks, I am assuming that the Seattle management will target d-men and build from there. I'm assuming there's a good chance that Myers/Schmidt will be among the better draft eligible d-men : https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft/seattle As to the rest of your post, I don't disagree, however, this expansion draft (along with the cap situation) will put a curve in how things go. One thing that the Canucks could do is trade for another veteran d-man (with a reasonable contract and shorter term) who meets the draft requirements, which means that both Myers and Schmidt could be protected. regards, G.
  17. Well, the folks here who don't like Green will say, "Fire Green, this is evidence that he doesn't know how to use the talent on this team!" The folks who like Green will say, "See, Green knows how to develop, motivate and get the best from his talent!" The people who don't like Virtanen will claim, "Meh, it's just another streak. Virtanen is inconsistent and should be traded." The people who like Virtanen will say, "See, this is the talent that is finally starting to shine through! Don't trade him." Most everybody else will be somewhere in between. regards, G.
  18. Yeah, why couldn't the Canucks have drafted Logan Brown or Jake Bean? regards, G.
  19. An argument could be made for Schmidt, but factors I see which speak against it are: 1.) Schmidt is younger than Myers (2 years?). 2.) Schmidt has a (slightly) less expensive contract. Every $50,000 can make a difference. 3.) Schmidt has more term left on his contract (I'm assuming that the team sees this a positive :)). 4.) Schmidt is listed as a LD/RD, and that flexibility could become important. 5.) I see their respective games being about even, sometimes one is better than the other, but there hasn't been a clear winner in the "who is better?" discussion. Meh, we'll see in a few months. regards, G.

  21. I'm liking the Frazetta cover art. Also, the music is pretty good. regards, G.
  22. Well, you may get your wish, at least as far as Myers is concerned. The Canucks will have to leave one of Schmidt or Myers exposed for the expansion draft, and my bet it will be Myers. Edler and Benn will be UFAs, and maybe they will be back, or maybe not, depending on what those two could be asking in money and term vs what the team can afford to give them. Possibly Edler and Benn will be among the better options available for the price the Canucks can afford. Assuming at least some of Edler's current caphit (and Myers, assuming he goes in the expansion draft) goes to pay Hughes et al, how much is left to sign this good defensive d-man and re-sign Tryamkin? And then there's the remaining two spots to be filled. It could also depend upon who is available in the d-man UFA market, what players may become available via trade (probably post expansion draft), or perhaps the team will have to rely on the AHL guys to fill a spot (or two due to money put elsewhere). Should be be fun to see. regards, G.
