Maybe it's the look of the video (the 60's music TV show set), the hair/wigs, or the outfits being worn, but this came to my mind: regards, G.

Yeah, there's a lot going on in those brain pans of theirs. Miku (primary lyricist) pulls ideas in from a wide range of sources, and Kanami (primary composer) is ... pretty damn special. And then there's the contributions from the rest of the band to be considered in arranging the songs, etc. regards, G.

There have been a number of ballads (or balladish) songs similar to this from Band Maid on previous albums, but this one is more over on that side from what they usually do. Perhaps there's a lack of Akane drum solo, Misa bass beat and Kanami shredding in these. I tend to view ballads from hard rock/metal types of bands (not just Band Maid) in the same vein as "dues songs", they're in the contract: Doonesbury's character Jimmy Thudpucker (Trudeau's go-to character for lampooning the music industry) once refused to do a "paid my dues" song as being pointlessly whiny, pointing out he was an overnight success at age nineteen. His agent retorts "It's in your contract." I believe Band Maid do want to create/perform (some) ballads, not just because it's in the contract, but they also see them as part of the fan service which they believe is very important in gaining international success. "Start Over", not one of my favourites, but it's a good song. Also, "Wonderland" or "Daydreaming" fit into this category (IMO), and is perhaps what most of the fanbase is expecting for this type of song: regards, G.

Yeah, it's supposedly a kiss to the fanbase (et al) in these Covid times. I kind of like it, but I'm seeing some "mixed reviews" where people are surprised with the type of song (a ballad), and so on. I believe folks were expecting this to be more like "Sayona kidori" (Nightingale) regards, G.

Why is Höglander so good? And can he win some hardware?
Gollumpus replied to ImConfused's topic in Canucks Talk
Well, the greater exposure to eastern Canadian media this season could be beneficial to his vote totals, but with minimal exposure in the US markets suggests to me that the winner will be from down there, or possibly from an eastern Canadian team. regards, G. -
I too tried it 10 times, and got 6 results at the same place or lower, 1 at 3rd, 1 at 2nd... and 2 1st OA. Yeah, I jinxed it for this year... regards, G.

Interesting. I don't mind this, I don't really like it, but I certainly don't mind it. I figure the musicians would fall asleep if they had to play this too often. .. I give you, Lightning Bolt from 2014: regards, G.

(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
Gollumpus replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Agree. He is a UFA after this season, but I suspect that his current team will meet/beat any (reasonable) offer. regards, G. -
[Rumour] Predators interested in Adam Gaudette
Gollumpus replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not looking to trade Gaudette, but if I were I might be looking at someone like Scott Laughton. He's about the same size (maybe 10+ lbs heavier), but seems to play a fairly physical game, has reasonable points for what is a 3C(?), and has a pretty good faceoff percentage ( much better than Gaudette). I think this is someone after whom I'd like Gaudette to pattern his game. I've only done a minor amount of research here, so please give me the low down on this guy beyond cap hit. I also expect that there would have to be a significant add by Vancouver. regards, G. -

The total number of games played is only somewhat relevant. Look at Edmonton's schedule for this season (through February). They have (so far) played in two back-to-back sets of games, the first against the Canucks in January, and the second against the Senators in February. In every other instance they have had at least one day off between games (whether at home or for travelling), or in February there will be/have been two instances of three days off, and they will be coming off of a two day rest when they next meet the Canucks on the 23rd.. The Canucks have been in four, back-to-back sets to date. The first time they have had two days in a row off was Feb. 9th and 10th. The next time they will get two (or more) days off in a row is the last three days of this month, leaving them to play 5 games in 10 days. The total number of games for the Canucks in February is 13 over 25 days, while Edmonton plays 12 games over 26 days. The Canucks do have the last 3 days of the month off (therefore a 25 day month), while Edmonton didn't/won't play on the first or last days of the month (therefore only a 26 day month). This suggests that Edmonton are a far more rested team than the Canucks. regards, G.

So, is the suggestion here that the Canucks might have a pretty good shot at Power, and failing that maybe very good chances at drafting Edvinsson or Clarke, and perhaps drafting a second Hughes if all else fails? Still kind of early for this sort of thread, yes? Oh what am I saying, this is CDCtown... regards, G.

I chose Horvat. Yes, his stats aren't what we might have expected from last year, and he has had a few bad patches here and there, however, he is still playing hard minutes (perhaps too many) at either end of the ice, he is still being heavily relied upon for face offs, and he is producing (some) points if not quite at the same rate as last season. All of this, and he is the (probably) the guy holding the room together. regards, G.

True dat on the college thing (although he did get into 42 AHL games in Texas between 2014 - 2016)). I also made miscalculations on Shore's games per season, in that he played 76 games (for two teams) in 2018-19 and played in 45 games in 2019-20 (also for two teams). * I need food * Also, for full disclosure, a few seasons ago I was positive about the Canucks trying to acquire this guy as a bottom 6 type of player... maybe back around when there was talk of Hamhuis being traded to Dallas. Virtanen's season point results (which was what I was commenting on) look to be on an upswing from my vantage point: 12, 1, 20, 25, 36 with goal totals of 15 and 18 in the last two seasons, streak or no streak. Shore did 33 and 32 point seasons in Dallas (with 13 and 11 goals respectively), and hasn't cracked 30 points in the last three seasons (2018-19 he got 29 points), with each result being lower than the previous season's, and with fewer games played. To me, this says Shore is on a downward trajectory. Has he been injured, or have teams changed their minds on this guy after they picked him up? regards, G.
-
There's also a difference in draft years to be be considered. Shore has been kicking around the NHL for two additional years with four different teams. Virtanen's points per season look to be on the upswing while Shore's look to be going in the opposite direction. The last time he got in anything close to even a half of a season was in 2018-19, injuries or pressbox (no AHL time listed)? regards, G. *Edits: see below - I'm a numpty.
