Something to check out is some of the trades made by the Bruins in that period of time: http://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/team_list The Bruins traded away several young players and some high picks, some of them very high draft picks (Seguin, Hamilton, 2018 1st, and so on). regards, G.

Maybe it could result in Eriksson being more agreeable to waiving sooner rather than in 2020 when his full NTC clause goes away. This being said, there is still the cost of his contract ($6 million on the cap and $7 million salary this year) as opposed to the final three years ($6 million cap hit in each year, $5 million salary next year, and $4 million in each of the final two years). Perhaps a team looking for help reaching the cap floor and saving on salary would be interested? regards, G.

I'm not too excited about the results of this by-election. The Green Party won, and good on them for that, but their result went up only by about 1100 votes from the previous election. The next placed party was the Conservatives, who went down by over 6,500 votes from the last election. The Liberals dropped over 12,000 votes from where they were in 2015, while the NDP dropped over 14,000 votes. If the Greens had won by a number of votes equal to the amount of votes dropped by even one of these other parties then I would be impressed. * And were the Greens able to carry this seat in the upcoming federal election, then I would be very impressed. * These results seem to be more about the local electorate punishing the federal Liberals, and the Conservatives and NDP not getting their vote out for various reasons (lack of voter engagement, dislike of current party policies and leadership, etc). regards, G.

[Proposal] Fishing for Pesce
Gollumpus replied to BigTramFan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think that the trade(s) would work until you tried to offload Nylander for Pesce, and then discovered that you possibly/probably can't offload him at all. regards, G. -
U18 World Hockey Championship - Ornskoldsvik/Umea
Gollumpus replied to Ossi Vaananen's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Assuming Byram is gone, there are still some very good prospects out there: Broberg, Soderstrom, Harley, York, Seider and so on. If Broberg was available at 10th then I would snap him up. I'm a bit cool on Soderstrom. I believe a larger, mobile, quality defensive d-man is a bit more valuable atm rather than another smaller, offensive guy. If there was a need/desire for a d-man (rather than a forward) and Broberg was already picked, then I'd consider trading down a few places to pick up an additional pick/prospect and go for one of Harley, Seider et al. regards, G. -

I was about 4 and a half hours late on my suggestion, but what the heck, I'll take it. regards, G.

Harley is one of the reasons I'd be okay with trading down if any of the usual suspects being discussed aren't available at 10th OA. regards, G.

Yeah, they did a lot of that as well. Detroit was a popular destination because of their playoff success in that period. regards, G.

Yeah, thought I should have been clearer there. My meaning was that, in say the first 5 or so years of building, you get a number of good prospects (regardless of the round in which they were picked). In the next 5 or so years, you start trading picks for veteran players to support the young core you have drafted. In the case of the Wings, that young core pretty much stayed together (or was added to) for around 15 years or more and as a result they continued to trade picks to support or add to them. At one point the Wings traded at least half of their 1st round picks over a 10 year period. Yes, some Wings' prospects were added to the NHL team, but there wasn't any need to rush them while guys like Lidstrom or Yserman were playing for around 15 to 20 years. regards, G.

Maybe a bit of both. I can't say that I've been watching a lot hockey atm, but it does seem that Boston is playing "old", slow and banged up. The Leafs (or perhaps some of them - not Nylander) are taking advantage of that, along with maybe Muzzin's play rubbing off on the rest of the Laf's D corps. regards, G.

I always thought that the "Detroit model" was: 1.) Be very fortunate in your early drafting. By this I mean that not only do you draft talented players, but that those guys also play for 10 - 20 years, at a very high level. 2.) Trade newer high picks for veteran help to supplement your veteran core. Those guys play (in some cases) play for a long time. 3.) Eventually bring in some newer prospects to add to the core. You bring them in when they are in their 20's often because they haven't been able to supplant the veterans who have been around for 10 - 20 years. As the team has been winning, there hasn't been any need to bring these guys in any earlier. regards, G.
