I have yet to see "The Family". Managed to be busy when it was making the rounds I suppose. I think I like him more as a writer than a director (eg. "District 13"). Not sure what he was thinking to be involved with that screw up "Brick Mansions". Lots of money thrown his way, I suppose. regards, G.

I saw this just tonight. Mostly agree. Outside of the box office returns, I don't see why Freeman or Johansson were in this film. They weren't bad, but they didn't really add anything. I was surprised to see that this was a Luc Besson film. I usually like his films (more than I liked this one, which I didn't hate, but I'm still feeling a bit negative towards). I agree about a lot of the "science talk" being a bit out of date. I kinda' turned off my brain after a while when they started in on that stuff. I suppose we were to supposed to be accepting since it was Morgan Freeman saying it. Only 10% of our brain capacity, eh? The opening segment with Morgan Freeman's lecture, and a few other places in the film (like the white lab) reminded me of Stanley Kubrick's "2001". I suppose the sequences with the "original" Lucy at the water hole was also one of these Kubrick scenes. regards, G.

I'm not really caring if he can fight or not. As has been pointed out by others, even Chara isn't what you'd call a great fighter. He's just very big, has reach, height and weight on pretty much anyone else in the NHL, and he can just wrap up anyone who goads hiim into a scrap. Can't recall when the last time Chara lost a fight. I believe most teams just try to goad him into taking roughing penalties, no? I'd prefer Tyramkin was positionally sound and all those other positves which we have been reading about this guy. And hopefully, his decision making develops so that he makes good choices in which plays to make. If he is a physical player, then I want him to be able to clear the front of the net by winning those size/strength battles with guys from the other team who are trying to block the goalies' view. Hopefully he will also be mobile enough to be in a position to every once in while put a big open ice hit on some guy. I want him to be a good enough skater to go with his size and positional play so that he could rub guys out along the boards as they try to get past him, and even crush an opposing forward every once in a while. Either way, the opposing player is getting worn down. And if he did have to fight, then I'd be okay if he fought like Chara. regards, G.

I wouldn't mind if the Canucks tried to move up and get Ritchie with the 24th pick + (something). regards, G. -
[Confirmed] Willie Desjardin: VAN Head Coach

That's true that it should have been "there" rather "that". Good catch that. I must admit that I did fall into the trap of the common usage of that phrase. Fun fact: Virgil used a similar line to what Shakespeare wrote, around 15 centuries before. regards, G. -

I think it's all in the camera angle for the photo. And the hair is different. When I first saw this photo of Desjardin: I thought he looked a lot like this guy: The moustache and hair are similar, but Desjardins is without the "Stars". regards, G. -
Hardly anyone does it over the course of any year. I can't say I really notice, but I do have it copyrighted. Just sayin'. And I see this as an exchange of ideas. My perspective is altered (sometimes), and hopefully some folks will find something to think about which is different from their original view (those who don't see an opposing view as a personal attack). regards, G.

As I noted earlier, if Ehlers puts on lean muscle mass then I'd agree with you. regards, G.
-
There is an assumption here that this extra 10 -15 lbs will be lean muscle mass. If a prospect does make an effort to put on muscle, rather than mere weight, then this would be a factor in his favour. It doesn't change my view that the Canucks would be better served by taking a larger forward (with supposedly less talent). As to your assumption regarding my history in competive sports, yes, you are correct. This being said, did your history as an amateur athlete do anything to improve your understanding of how the NTC works in the NHL? regards, G.
-
Well, if I went with the type of response you suggested you'd be left in doubt as to why you are wrong in your position regarding NTC's. Benning is not opposed to asking a player about whether or not they would be willing to waive their NTC (and neither am I). This is a lot different from what your position seems to be regarding NTC's, where you suggest that asking a player to waive (just tell him we don't want him anymore) = him automatically handing over a list of teams to which he'd accept a trade. regards, G.
-
Maybe. There's no certainty to this claim. A smaller player may reach this 190(ish) pounds, but as I have pointed out previously, this extra weight could work as a disadvantage to the style of play of that prospect. regards, G.
-
Once again you come up with a devastating retort. regards, G.

Interesting data. I was thinking of looking up this very thing. While it does lend support to the thought that Ehlers will reach the estimated size, we should also remember that this is not a guarantee. For example, my father was over 6', and I have brothers who are around the same height. I'm shorter by maybe 3 or 4 inches. Ehlers may, or may not get taller/heavier. regards, G.
