Has Edler expressed a desire to go play in Florida? Not saying that this would be a bad move, depending on the final assets which were trading hands, but I don't see this trade happening without a lot of over payment on the part of the Canucks. regards, G.

Comparable Players: Markus Naslund (Skill) Pavel Bure (Speed) Peter Forsberg (Seeing the ice) (mention of Patrick Kane in style of play) Mix (Nathan MacKinnon/Jonathan Drouin) . So, Ehlers has all of this going for him and the best he can place is 13th amongst NA skaters? I figure if the Canucks have a top-6 pick then they may as well take a big(ger) guy with skill. They can see about taking a smurf with their 2nd round pick. regards, G.

[Confirmed] Jim Benning signs as new Canucks GM

While it is true that Benning would be "a GM of a team instead of an assistant GM with a higher salary, more responsibility and more satisfaction" the Bruins are not under any obligation to ensure Benning's job satisfaction with a rival organization. The Bruins have Benning under contract (and if you know different, please inform us). Benning can choose to quit, or retire, or otherwise no longer be employed by the Bruins. He would then be free to go drive a cab, open up a restaurant or start a new career in computer repair. Benning cannot (depending on his contract etc) up and quit the Bruins today, and then go work for the Canucks tomorrow, without the Bruins' permission. Were he to try to do so, the Bruins would be within their rights (at least as I understand them) to sue Benning for damages, injury to their organization and what ever else their lawyers can come up with (and possibly the Canucks for good measure). What are Benning's current job responsibilities with the Bruins? "...he serves as an advisor to General Manager Peter Chiarelli on all matters pertaining to player evaluation, trades and free agent signings," I am suggesting that if Benning has any information on some players in which the Bruins may have an interest, which they feel are under-valued or unknown to other teams, then it is in their best interests to not let Benning go too soon. The decision to want to go is Benning's. The decision to release Benning from his contract, and if so when, rests with the Bruins. regards, G. -

Sure, but that doesn't mean that they won't bend a guy like Benning over the table. They'll just do it with more respect... regards, G. -

Often/usually there is permission given, but the questions are: 1.) when will the Bruins allow Benning to walk?; 2.) why would the Bruins allow Benning to head to the Canucks any sooner than they reasonably have to? They might indeed no longer want Benning to participate in Bruin business related to areas like the draft, as Benning could take any future information from Bruins' scouting reports and use that to assist the Canucks (or another team) with their selections. There is also the possibility that Benning is working on a lesser project for the Bruins, which is still a couple of months away from completion, so why would they de-rail their own stuff in order to help the Canucks with their "re-what-ever" they're doing? regards, G. -

Perhaps more dance partners, but their respect doesn't mean that they would be any more willing to present a reasonable return in any trade discussion. regards, G. -

It is good to see Kassian perform well. Now hopefully he can continue to perform at this current level (or do better) for the remainder of the season, and into the playoffs (assuming that that particular long shot pays off). If nothing else, Kassian ending this season on a high note will hopefully give him a lot of confidence in his abilities, and inspire him to train hard and keep in shape during the off season. This being said, I'm not getting too high on Kassian. I wouldn't be surprised if he cooled off just a bit for a few games, although I would be disappointed. The question will be, assuming Kassian does cool off, in just how many of the remaining games might he be a non-factor? regards, G.
