A lot of the context then was more in terms of the second contract for the big cash in. Yet honestly I didn't really think of the ELC contract as a benefit, guess the 1million ELC isn't exactly chump change lol.
-
Man it'd be huge have him in this year and get his feet wet, ala Tryamkin last year. But then again having him on ELC for a full 3 years would probably be sweeter lol.
-
instead of asking a billion questions why don't you do what you ignorantly suggested others to do? maybe you'd find a resource direct from a reputable source like this... https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#elc

hmm if Boeser signs with us next year he needs to sign a 3year ELC if he holds out in 2019 then he'll need to sign a 2 year ELC (based on age) There isn't really any budget benefit for him either way. That said Boeser can sign during the season and play a few games to burn a year in his ELC which would be a financial benefit for him. Either way, on a team with Horvat / Baertschi looking like decent threats, viable defenders coming through the system and stable goaltending. We're one or two big time offensive threats away from being good again. IMO Boeser would have a good shot at making the lineup and being depended for a top 6 role which would push his contract up.

jake virtanen floor was determined to be a 3rd / 4th liner. Ehlers is too 6 or bust... in terms of likelyhood (at the time) of turning out virtanen is the man. juolevi looks pretty good to me... seems like a sure bet to make the NHL to me. Have you given up on him? if it takes jake 4 years to become a 20 goal power forward with a consistent physical presence would he be a bad pick then? Would you still be crying about hindsight then? Debateable that this comes to fruition but in time we shall see clearly. Not even sure why this is a conversation for juolevi vs tkatchuk... its been like 5 months since he's been drafted!!! cmon people
-
Man way too much bashing for way too many unknowns. has everyone given up on virtanen and juolevi already? why bother placing the value in immediate results vs possibilities. Most people want high picks anyways so with ehlers and tkachuk on our team are we contenders? Doubt it... are we a playoff team probably pretty close to it so we'd probably be closer to that no mans land 7/8/9/10 spot.

Nice goal but I agree with @Junkyard Dog that OT move showed slick hands and feet and offensive prowess. #excited
-
I get a little leery over big hulking guys that produce high numbers. It's always a question that if they will be able to translate the same offensive prowess into the NHL when you have burly men everywhere... NCAA is not a small league but just there is no comparison. That said maybe he stays in college and finishes his degree and Canucks sign him for free
-
only 1 goal, guys a bust fire GMJB
-
Like this part the best, in the 3 years of JB we went from a bare one dimensional blue line to a blue line with promise and hope. Hutton I'll give MG credit but tryamkin was drafted two years ago and now he's looking to be slotted into the top 6. Also his late picks are looking promising, Olsen had a monster year, Subban put up good ahl numbers. Then ofcourse there's juolevi, which is funny because that team that was one spot ahead in much more dire need of impactful dmen is evermore cluttering their top 6 spots... Puljujarvi I understand... benson I do not, using a 2nd rounder on yet another forward... Lol this makes me think that Benning has a lot more of a clue on team building than Charelli does. This is team is building a solid crew from the net out which is how it oughta be done

Think he said that he'd like one more year at UND which makes it likely that his mind is set to sign after next season. Either that or he has to wait two more years to sign an elc contract which doesn't make much sense business wise
-
Think that's a nice bonus for him to play in the AHL next year. Fact that he can come in and out of the Canucks lineup into big time minutes in the AHL, not to mention playing with other skilled defenders like Subban or Stecher... Seems pretty good. Course that does burn a year of contract, so maybe we just want him in Juniors and let him steep for a bit. This guy got compared to Olli Maatta which is fair in many regards but he's too new to be compared to him since he's going to get better still. Olli Maatta and Juolevi both seem like they could become a comparable player to Cam Fowler. Great skating, reliable and good offensively. Maybe not the elite in anything specific...
-
Easy because he can play 50-60 games in a clear progression plan rather than 15-20 games behind a starter that may not be ready to play 60-70 games in a season. seriously the most he's played was what 30 games?
-
Well said, on the bolded, I believe that McCann and Virtanen will be in the AHL next year, add to that bresbrois and Tate Olson who I believe are eligible for AHL hockey next season as well. Should be a good club. would be even more amazing if JB can convince Cagguila, Boeser and Stecher to sign and join the AHL with first call ups in mind unless of course they take the preseason by storm and force their way on the team
-
I can't imagine JB leaving Tampa without talking to Boeser at the very least to congratulate him. That and I'd assume he'd be talking to Stecher, Garteig and Cagguila...
-
1. McCann, should be happy with the organization... they kept him up for the full year, his play is on himself and he knows that. McCann should also be happy with that because it gets him 1 year faster to a bigger pay day and shows the organizations overall confidence in his abilities. Once again, you are deriving fear based on words the way something was said... fact that he's considered to be as a possible core player is faith enough for a 1rst year pro. 2. Botchford is king of the fear mongers so it's no wonder what you are preaching what he's spouting out. Anyways most of what Botchford says is pure speculation and not derived from fact. This is his main speculative point... those (who?) who believe(did these guys actually talk to anyone?) that it didn't go well... DT (Dave Tomlinson -- thanks @mill ), he probably talks to management and players much more than Botchford does... Anyways it's all fluff at this point until you can confirm that someone talked to Thatcher and confirmed a decision was made.
-
You're stupid... JB isn't there just to talk to Demko. He'll be talking with Stecher, Cagguila, Boeser, Garteig and whoever else he has interest in for next year... Even then there is nothing wrong with a GM going over to talk to his prospect to at the very least congratulate him on his overall successful season and to let him know how JB plans are the next year. If Demko doesn't want to sign here I'm not sure what JB could do... Is Nashville a bad GM because they couldn't sign Vesey ? These guys are able to make their own decisions. IMO Demko will sign here even if he does go back for 1 more year.. I mean if he signs this year, he plays #1 in Utica for 1 year and has a spot to be a NHL backup the year after... I don't know where else he'd get a shot like that... Then add to the McCann connection and the fact he's a west coast boy and would probably want to stay in the west. I went on a bit of a rant here but honestly I hate people like you.. derive speculation from no viable resources and do nothing but fear mongering on these boards.

The loophole kinda helps the NHL team as well.. if they are a first rounder at least. Let's say Boeser hasn't impressed throughout his 4 years of college and failed to live up to his first overall potential. Canucks could choose to walk away and come away with a 2nd rounder in compensation. It's part of the risk of drafting a college player anyways but maybe they'll change it so that you get compensatory picks for college players picked in the 2nd // 3rd rounds as well. 1rst --> 2nd 2nd --> 4th 3rd --> 5th something like that would make it more digestible Looked it up this is the actual rule, which makes it sound like it could happen with junior and european players as well?
-
If he's gunning to signing could be a good addition to the AHL roster for the playoffs. does anyone know if Stecher and Caggiula can join Utica playoffs after signing with the Canucks?
-
he's going to the AHL his goalie coach is going to be Dan Cloutier who's worked wonders for Markstrom. Short of promoting Cloutier there is no unknown there. Even so I heard Cloutier currently likes his position and may not want the NHL promotion just yet
-
Been reports that JB is interested in signing Garteig. Be a great 1//2 in Utica but seeing as Garteig just bumped Demko out of the playoffs I wonder if he'd care if he is signed here or not. Garteig is from BC is 24 and posted great numbers this year and good number 2 years prior. He'd probably be a respectable backup and maybe could be fast tracked to the NHL as Markstroms backup (post Miller contract) while Demko gets prime time miunutes in the AHL.

Updated brackets: UND and BC now locked into semi-finals. bracket link: http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/icehockey-men/d1 April 7th next game. Go Demko, go Boeser!
-
Virtanen for that physical presence and forechecking speed ? I think Virt needs a lot of work though Boeser sees the ice a lot better
-
goaaal, boeser MVP Honestly though a turnover in defensive zone and wide open in front of the opposing net.. that was horrible defence by Northeastern would not have happened at the NHL level lol Sweet gift otherwise.
-
Feel dirty for bumping myself but this picture is niceeee. Again times in EST related because these games start tomorrow: Boeser -- UND versus Gaudette -- Northeastern @ Friday 25th 11am PST
