I doubt it, it sounds like he's set on getting an education.. Some sort of degree. either way is all good to me. but plz Benning sign Stecher. I'm not as high on Caggiula but wouldn't be upset. I'd like to take a chance on Tanev though be great to try to mold him to be another Hansen type of guy

was looking around for the UND tournament schedule.. Found this beauty pic: UND first game is on March 25th @ 11am PST (times in picture seem to be in EST)

Yeah, think the main point is that a single high-end pick isn't going to be the savior of the club. It takes a collective system of players with competitive prowess to do so. The theory of tanking is built around the process of moving out good players and competitiveness of the team to get more picks and to drive the team lower in order to get this "savior". I'd rather have picks in the 5-10 range and have these prospects build up in a competitive environment rather than doing what the leafs are doing atm.

I wasn't overly surprised when Gaunce didn't make the team only because Virtanen and McCann showed good early but Gaunce was probably the best and most consistent prospect we had at training camp. So I am a bit shocked that he hasn't been used more when our lineup has been smacked down. Even when he was up here for 2 games I thought he played well and decent to good in each game... Also had a greasy goal that you gotta like from a 3rd liner type of guy. Ah well I'm happier with over grooming over pushing over the edge anyways. Can't have all the youngins in at once or we become Edmonton... o.O *shudder*

Different times, also apparently the Canucks organization didn't handle Bure properly... Agreeing to a contract and making it Canadian pay instead of American, not paying the signing bonus... some other things too apparently. I think Bure had reason's to want out more than Kesler. That said I'm more upset that Kesler only had 1 target team on his trade-list more-so than wanting out of Vancouver. C'est la vie, life goes on.

Good question, Maybe not... but honestly last year Horvat making the team was just gravy. Benning getting Vey was good insurance on if Bo couldn't actually make it full time which is good planning on a GMs point of view. Vey still young and wasn't soooo bad, a year of good conditioning and packing more muscle and maybe he can make some noise.

Sounds like he's a really good skater. I like drafting players who skate well and effortlessly.

The better pick is the guy who actually pans out and plays in the NHL, not all scouts get it right, not all GM picks pan out and some random off the board picks actually become studs.. Hindsight is a wonderful thing we all want it but can't manage to see into the future so c'est la vie.

Think he took quite a risk on that russian Dmitri Zhuderov (w/e it is) that was a 4th pick ? Benning shouldn't take all risky players all the time....

speedster with snarl ? could be good

I'm not a huge fan of the point totals of the OHL and QMJHL leagues, it just seems that WHL is harder to score in general. But we've seen undersized dynamic forwards work in the NHL, however I think the smaller the player the greater their drive needs to be. Shinkaruk is small but he's a spitfire bulldog on the ice, you can see how hard he plays along the boards and that is where you need to excel in when you play in the Western Conference. I value character more than straight up skill and there's a lot more that a prospect has to do than just put up points in Junior's to prove to me that he is going to be good in the NHL. An example I'd bring up is Cassels, he's playing with heart and always seems to elevate his play when the team needs it most. **Note: I'm not trying to knock Ehlers, I've seen clips here and there but never actually seen him play shift by shift basis so I'm not really sure how "gritty" or how determined he is on the ice. Points are good stats to look at but are not stats that will guarantee a player to be able to make the NHL.

They may not get in the first game but likely after they've gone through a few practices to understand the system. McCann may need more time for adjustment since centre position is more complicated. But I could see them starting out with 4th line type of minutes to start and they will have to earn more as they go on. Would be cool to see Gaunce - McCann - Grenier as a line.

[Rumor] Ryan Miller to Vancouver Thread

Haha comparing Lack to a phoneme like Price.... Price was also pushed out of the goaltending job in the first few years by Halak, then after the few years Price took over, does this sound familiar ? -

Homer glasses aside, who wouldn't want Chara or Boychuk on their team, I think they are fine people, Marchand is a rat and Thornton is a thug. Lucic while he is a great player, I'm not too fond of his demeanour. -

Ah sorry, either way while I hate the Bruins, hate most of the players and the coach is annoying as hell, we have to remember that or GM JB is now a Canuck, and overall Boston is a good organization and they have dealt with their classless fans in a classy manner (in regards to the racial slur against Subban). -

Comparing Messier and Iginla? that's just silly. Remember when we got Sundin and while he did not work out via his play on the ice, his conduct and class were second to none. It's been said he helped the Sedins along and helped us gather attention from around the league as a destination. Iginla is a class act and has no reason to be compared to Messier in that regard. -

Lol, Erhoff is going to make more than 4m, Dorsette is a 4th liner, but an effective and great 4th liner. Kassian probably beats out Vey in the depth chart, but I guess thats up to the coach and how well they play. Burrows also disappeared into thin air, I'm assuming you gave up on the 30+ goal scorer, do everything we could want from him and never complain life time canuck with a NTC and traded him. Either way I'm not really a fan of building this team through free agency because most of those players you likely wanted signed would want 4-5 years at higher than typical cost. I'm a fan of Iggy and Miller only because they would want 2-3 years which likely aligns our prospects from transitioning into the lineup. -

I hate how people type-cast Burrows as not top 6 anymore lol, it's ridiculous he had 1 bad year that was mixed with coaching issues and injury problems. For Bonino, he has played between 12minutes to 19 minutes TOI, pretty close to top 6 minutes. Either way he may be ready with a step up, maybe not. Time will tell. -

I think it's clear that you sign a vet goalie for the next 2 years use Lack - Eriksson for the 3-4 years after that, use Lack - Eriksson - Demko (whoever is the best at the time) for the foreseeable future after that -

Goalies usually have more of a leeway with the oddball snarky and cocky attitudes, I agree I'm not a fan of his rumoured attitude problems but JB knows him better than most so if it's a problem I'd imagine he wouldn't bother with him -

so true, now he's likely worth 6-7 for 5-6 years. I think I'd rather have myers if he is available for a reasonable hockey trade -

I don't think Chicago, LA, Ducks, Pittsburg, Boston, are able to fit him under their cap / structure right now... There are probably closer teams than us to be a contender but I don't think we're too far away from being competitive after a couple UFA signings. -

lol Iginla's lowest point total in the league is 60 points (not counting the lockout shortened year). I understand that anything can happen during a season but it makes no sense to shove a prospect in there when you can have iginla who you know is capable of putting up the point totals required to be a top 6 forward. To the point that we are getting older if we sign him, well duh but we aren't losing any youth to get him, they all need their time to develop and to prove that they are ready for the step up to top 6 minutes. Not only that you need veterans like Iginla / Sedins / Hamhuis / Bieksa / Higgins to: A. Be competitive B. Ease the young guys in to the line-up rather than throw them to the wolves C. Show them how to conduct themselves. Now I understand that people want to go for a top 5 pick but there is no way this team is going to flounder like last year. Torts + Gillis was a mess last year, mis-managed, mis-coached I expect a much better result. I also expect more trades, as I'm thinking Hansen, Schroeder, and maybe Tanev might be traded depending on what he wants in terms of salary. -

Lol ok, you can have your opinion as well but I'd rather have a Vet that can put up guaranteed points during a season rather than a prospect who may not be ready for that role.
