No no no 100x no... We have Ian Clark the best goalie coach in the world.. we can't afford spending 4.5m on a backup this year where we need that cap to round out the defense and depth options... I would be looking at Big Save Dave Rittich as he had a pretty bad year and I'd bank on Clark to rebound his game back to it was when he was an allstar two years ago

Your assessment isn't overly wrong but I do think you are glossing over that the young core and the youth we have coming up as of right now. I get the allure in stocking up the cupboards but at some point in time you have to eat it up and that's what we are doing right now... We are consuming and will be satiated for the next 3-4 years before we go digging back in... We have time to restock cupboards some more. Not too mention now that we have a good team that finally has depth that means we have actual options to trade assets. Like Boeser as you say is part of the first core group. Well he is RFA next year and if Podz and Hogz shows top 6 capabilities then that actually opens Boeser as a trade option where we don't have to leave a massive hole in the lineup That in turn restocks the cupboards... I guess what I'm saying is we needed good players to actually get valuable picks... for the past 7 years Benning has mis-managed a few assets for sure but we really never had any expendable valued assets to get rid of...

I've been messing around with the cap... It's tough because we don't really know what value Hughes, Petterson, Dicksinson and Garland are requesting... I'm mainly going on what the general media is saying on it.. I think with Abbotsford in our backyard this probably gives us flexibility to yoyo Rathbone up and down this year based on need so he can get a lot of ice time in the AHL.. Plus i may just buy an Abbotsford Rathbone jersey lol ! Anyways its definitely close and doesn't leave much flexibility but I think I like the way this roster looks, gives us the chance to see what Schmidt can do on a decent roster in a normal year and probably in the end drives his value up for better return anyways.

Yeah the whole deal was about removing 3 contracts totaled at 12m that provided depth or minimal contributions... or in Louis case no contributions and swap them out for 2 impactful players that will equate to about the same costs that 12m really handicapped the team, it definitely goes to show you how much contract term matters and in some aspects it matters more than actual cap value Holtby definitely needs to go, the good thing is that if there is no actual trade outlet for him his buyout only hits us with 500k otherwise I'm still impartial on Schmidt mainly because I want to see if he looks better in a normal season and just my thoughts is that having an OEL and Schmidt pairing could be pretty good

Yeah it's clear we never had anything worthy of recouping picks... with a current top 9 depth like we have there will be some hard decisions coming up when Hogs gets out of ELC in 2 years and Boeser next year... I know we have cap space to resign him but we also have to look at the next contracts of Miller and Horvat who both are more of a cornerstone than Boeser is. But hey if we can trade Boeser for picks and have players like Hogs or Podz earn their way up the lineup then we can fill up a 3rd line role far easier than a top 6 role

The bubble life was quite different... He'll Domingue was baking cookies for the boys and they were playing Mario Kart or something lol Last season there was no social gatherings at all.. long road trips where you are stuck in a hotel. Food was provided and broken up in to group sessions.. etc etc Pretty weird and clunky setup... That said if Schmidt ends up being traded it'd be because his play style doesn't suit the green defense system.. or rather Baumgartner. Now Shaw is in the mix I do wonder if he will fit into the system now

Well considering how many teams selected Small forwards Id imagine there's something more there that they don't like than just size... I wouldn't mind Wong myself but I'm not going to get angry imposing that I know better than 32 teams
-
considering we were missing a first, a third, and a fourth this year I say we got a slew of prospects that have excellent upside, excellent speed and rounds out organizational depth. Overall i'm liking this draft a lot in consideration of last year draft seem highly lackluster so there is definitely optimism in all of these guys here
-
speedy tenacious some skilled winger sounds like lockwood to me
-
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/560051/trevor-wong Kelowna Rockets shortened season 16 games and 16 points regardless 7th round is the perfect spot to pick high risk high reward players
-
looking toward the 7th rounder now... Tichacek LHD small skilled good skating defender Trevor Wong C small skilled vancouver born player maybe? at this late whatever they choose is all good to me
-
Canucks looking towards excellent skating prospects which is a good idea all of these picks seem to have excellent upside in skill and potential... unlike the last two drafts which seemed more geared towards size and grit perhaps this was a change in philosophy from Todd Harvey and Ryan Biech
-
Yup scoop up as many mobile defenders you can that show good puck skills and a bit of smarts I'm all in for these 2 defenders
-
Roy and Blake as well
-
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/472326/jiri-tichacek Jiri Tichachek LHD super small, but super mobile. would be the boom or bust long term project type defender for a 6th rounder not a bad shot to me
-
Yeah a lot of these are boom or bust type picks... granted you draft many of them one is bound to stick and that in itself could be worthwhile
-
yeah that is what i said :p "everyone taken in the 5th round is a project"
-
Myrenberg i do not mind at all.. 6'2" RHD good skater from what it seems everyone taken in the 5th round is a project Oct 2020 report: https://www.futurescopehockey.com/post/prospect-report-jonathan-myrenberg

boooooooooooooo why not take Bar.... immediately snagged up by Dallas....
-
traded both picks 4th -- 30 to tampa 4th -- 31 to minnie think they happened during commercials lol... the broadcast sucks i've just been watching https://www.nhl.com/nhl-draft/tracker/round-5
-
the rich gets richer... tampa gets a steal with duke falling from 1rst // 2nd round projections down at a 4th round value... maybe their next Brayden Point
-
okay dylan duke is still on the board... seems possible that he keeps slipping to the 5th round to us considering how many opportunity every team had to draft him...
-
I agree Florida is moving their chips on the table here and good on them.. with their Bob contract being this bad I imagine they will have to bank on a huge year or two in the now before forcing their hand in paying their amazing players like Barkov next year and Huberdeau in 2 years... also lets not forget their #1 goalie in Spencer Knight in 2 years
-
no contract yet.... Reinhart expressed the desire to be out west... well florida is pretty far east and is the farthest away from Vancouver lol... I would wonder if florida is banking on a cup run and a desire to sign a decent cap 1 year deal for Reinhart and will allow him to walk afterwards... Otherwise Reinhart has arb rights and has the ability to force a 1 year deal and walk right out to UFA and choose his western destination. With Brock being an RFA next year I am curious if the decision would be to trade him for futures and see if we can scoop up hometown Reinhart at a competitive and comparable rate to what Boeser will make. Love Boeser and all but Reinhart is only 2 years older and if we can recoup high-end picks and end up with a high-end player like Reinhart for free in UFA that'd be a pretty shrewd move IMO
