  1. ... Who I believe was selected with the 1st we sent to TB for JT Miller. The 1st was then sent to NJ in a separate trade.
  2. Wow cool stat! My dad and I were just discussing whether or not the NHL will ever have games on Xmas day like the NFL does. Personally I say no.. there's already plenty of entertainment on this day, plus it would be hard to compete with the NFL.
  3. Definitely the teams weird goth kid lmao.
  4. Merry Christmas CDC! I'll be looking forward to Christmas with my (almost) 3 year old and 6 month old daughters. My 3 year old is stoked! So cool seeing her opening gifts I'm very grateful to have the forum's, honestly. I spend alot of time here and CDC is hands down the best NHL related forum. So grateful us Canucks fans have this as a tool to waste our time
  5. Hey it's just an idea. I don't think it out of the realm of possibilities and should be looked at. IMO his play doesn't warrant 20+ minutes a night, and he could be a huge part of the reason why we are where we are. Not saying it should or shouldn't be done but it needs to be considered if we want to re-sign Bo. I'm just glad I'm not the GM. I'd already have no hair left on my head...
  6. He has 4 years left after this one. I don't think he's terrible but the defence needs surgery big time. It's the reason we have one of the league's worst goals againsta. Maybe trading Myers alone is the solution but honestly I think it needs more than that. I have been a big OEL supporter.. Not sure why or how his play and specifically his skating has dropped off since last season. My assessment of OEL Positives - some offensive upside. Gets pucks through. Takes smart shots. - Can handle breakouts well/makes crisp passes *when not under pressure* - Good stickwork - Ties up well Negatives - Phaneuf-esque pivoting - Struggles to defend at high speeds - Not physical - Poor zone coverage at times At 20+ minutes a night though..? He's not that guy anymore. He could work on the 3rd pairing but like I said... This defence needs a major operation. I really don't think he's a "solid D" as you've stated. We can just agree to disagree and see what management can pull off this offseason. If we have any chance of keeping Bo it's through an OEL buyout. IMO the buyout sucks in year 3 and 4 but the rest is peanuts.
  7. Here is the yearly cost of an OEL buyout. It's not necessarily I want him "replaced". I'd like to see a player who brings a completely different skill set in that role.. A more sound defensive role. Examples - Brian Dumoulin, Ian Cole, Brayden McNabb, Carson Soucy.. etc. All pending UFA's with big frames. Exception with Ian Cole. Keep in mind we also have Rathbone who could quarterback on PP2. Hughes - Schenn/Bear _____ - Schenn/Bear Rathbone - _____ Stillman Burroughs Lots of question marks as it comes to roster changes... I really don't hate the idea of an OEL buyout though. Could completely change the look of our defence especially with Myers gone too. Cap is projected to continue raising too. Edit: realized I'm forgetting about Dermott too. Not too sure where he fits. We have alot of defensive depth. I'd like to see someone take the reigns and really step up in a role.
  8. Oh I do. It's only 700 or 900k next season though. I know it's ~4.5 after that for 4 years or so.. then it dips down to ~2.5M.. This team is handcuffed by that contract either way. I'd rather fill his spot with someone big and tough similar to Zadorov.. or just someone who can play solid Defence! If we want to resign Bo and Kuz that $ has to come from an OEL buyout. I can't see another way. We can find someone else to fill in I know it. I believe in management.
  9. I've been hard on Bo as a captain but he put the team on his back tonight. If he would sign for 7.5M-8M I would do it. If that's the case, an OEL buyout this summer is a must to get under the cap. Terrible trade by JB now looking back. Boeser, Garland, Pearson, Myers all need to go too in order to make it work. Kuz needs to stay too. Keep what is working and get rid of the rest.. fill in the gaps with guys who are willing to bleed for the Canucks. Management knows how to find these types of guys so I'm not worried (Joshua, Lazar, Åman, Pederson, Bear, Stillman). Podz and Hogz can make the jump back up next year too. That would really help. A year in the A is key. Gutsy move by management but it's the best long-term. Pederson - Pettersson - Kuz Mikheyev - Bo - Podz Hoglander - Miller - _____ Joshua - Åman - Lazar Studnicka Hughes - Bear/Schenn _____ - Bear/Schenn Stillman - _____ Burroughs Demko Martin Delia Hoping Pederson can be another diamond in the rough to play with the Pettersson/Kuz duo. If he sticks that would be amazing. Some big/tough defenseman to fill in the gaps would be ideal too. This wins got me feeling optimistic. Back to .500... Come on boys, have a great Christmas and let's get this train rolling in the new year!!
  10. Agreed on the Stillman take. He's actually been improving over his last 3-4 games. Legit he could grow to be a decent bottom pairing defenceman.
  11. What a game. Pettersson is a god. This team (especially the D) still needs a major facelift though. Hughes - ______ ______ - Bear ______ - Schenn ______ Burroughs Buy out OEL and use that $ to re-sign Kuzmenko. It's imperative to keep Pettersson happy and give him linemates with chemistry. I can't wait to see what this team can do with an NHL defence. Worst comes to worst we can run Hughes - Schenn ______ - Bear ______ - ______ ______ Burroughs It might come down to that due to the cap. I'd still be happy with some fresh, young blood that plays hard and knows their role as bottom pairing D. *Cough* Myers *cough*.
  12. I honestly didn't like Bear's game against St. Louis... I get he had a bad game, but surely he's a better option than Stillman, Burroughs, and Myers.
  13. No. Trading 3 top 6 players (Garland, Boeser, Horvat) and potentially 2 top 4 defenceman ( Myers, OEL) isn't "finishing touches". Nowhere did I say this will turn around by next year and we will be a playoff team. I can see in 2-3 years time us getting there though. I'm not going to knock management for the Boeser deal. Like I said in my post there were intangibles that could have effected his game last year (dad, TG). I don't think anyone in their right mind would have just let Boeser walk to Ufa as an unqualified RFA. Unfortunately we were handcuffed by his QO, courtesy of Benning. Then Miller, I also don't think anyone in their right mind would have walked into this season without a deal for him after coming off 99 points. 80-90% of this board was happy with the signing... It's funny how quickly people turn. Add-on: I think Alvin and Rutherford haven't been alluding to a quick "finishing touches" turnaround either. What I've gathered from Alvin is he's going to make moves to continue to get younger, and build for the future. Just because they don't want to sell the entire team and go full Edmonton doesn't mean they aren't aware they need to take a step back in order to get younger & better in the future.
  14. Keep Pettersson Hughes Mikheyev Kuzmenko Joshua Lazar Bear Aman Schenn Hoglander Dump Garland OEL (buyout) Myers Horvat Dries Pearson Boeser Unclear Miller Burroughs Studnicka Aman To me it's pretty clear that our problems are a result of the Benning regime. Our management group hasn't even had the chance to pick their own head coach and fans are calling for their heads. The argument can be made that Boeser or Miller should have been moved in the offseason, but I'm of the opinion that Miller was worth re-signing after scoring 99 points. He can be lazy -no doubt- but I think resigning him was a healthy gamble. I believe he will come back to form. Boeser, I also still believed he could succeed and be effective but he hasn't shown that. He'll be gone this summer for sure. At least management clearly sees that he needs to go now. There were too many intangibles last year to trade him or throw him away for scraps (fathers declining health, playing under TG). Now it is clear. He's not a top 6 forward on a winning team. All I'm saying is - give this mess some time. I think if fans really think this team is a result of Alvin/Rutherford they're wrong. This is still Benning's mess that needs to be cleaned up. It will happen in due time but reality is we're handcuffed. 80% of the moves management has made have been wins IMO. You aren't going to win them all, but there have been multiple steps in the right direction. Big changes will come - just be patient. I know it's hard when we've been told this for the last 7-8 years...
  15. Yeah Horvat is scoring like crazy but honestly what else has he done? Doesn't set up teammates. Hasn't shown any heart on the ice. Doesn't block shots. Doesn't finish his checks. Been the backbone of a team that looks uninspired, disinterested, and lost. It would be stupid to sign him for anything more than 7M. Even at that this team needs a new leader, voice, and captain in the locker room. People say "it's just a letter", but if you're the captain - then you're the main leader. He has the authority to shut everyone up in the room and speak his mind. No one can tell him to shut up. He is the captain. Bo is way too passive, and honestly I would never get behind him with the way he plays on the ice. It's no wonder why the rest of the team lollygags on a nightly basis. If you want 8M+ then show some God damn heart. If he's worth that kind of money then he needs to show up when it matters. I'm excited for him to be gone and I hope we can get a good return. This has turned into a toxic relationship that needs to be cut off. We suck!.. And half of you really want the guy leading THIS to come back? At 8 million?!
  16. You don't even have to play him. Send him to the A if you want. I think the "this is unacceptable" talk, then proceeding to do the exact same bullshit is just as unacceptable and toxic.
  17. At this point I think so too. How great would it be if we could unload Miller and his 8M cap hit instead though..
  18. They guys love to talk the walk but fail to walk the talk. That's a trait I really despise in people actually.
  19. I'm okay with future considerations at this point. Just clearing the cap alone would be worth it. Problem is Im not even sure any teams would be willing to do that. Here's a question... Would you do Boeser for Lucic straight up? His contract expires at the end of the season.
