  1. Having your new head coach call our the leadership 2 games into his tenure is very telling for me... To me it's pretty evident there has been no accountability for quite some time in the room. Now, some may say Pettersson is more of a quiet leader. As a matter of fact Pettersson said so himself.. but he's got a killer instinct to win. At all costs he will do what it takes to get a Stanley Cup, and lead by example. That's the difference.
  2. Honestly I think Miller has way more offensive upside. His point totals are way higher over the last 4 seasons, he can drive play - not so much this year (but it will come back), and he's more creative offensively. Bo has lower point totals over the last 4 seasons, and he isn't a play driver. Yes he's scored plenty of goals this season... But it seemed like he wasn't playing on most nights, then all of a sudden would score a tip-in goal of be in the right place at the right time. Don't forget the bumper goals on the PP either. I'm no NHL player but IMO that role can be filled with others on the roster. Bottom line I think Miller has the ability to drive play whereas Horvat does not. Miller can take control of a game and be the best player on the ice that shift whereas Bo cannot. Now the x-factor here is Miller's pouty negative attitude. I think not being named captain and Tocchet putting a muzzle on him will put him back in his place. I'm not worried about Miller. He'll come back even stronger. I'd still take him over Bo... Especially if we can draft an NHL ready C in the summer... Pettersson Bedard/Carlsson Raty We could be set down the Middle for a decade... I also think Petey has looked good with Miller on the wing. I like that Miller - Petey - Kuz line.
  3. Honestly so happy to have a new changing of the guard. Sore losers with Bo as the captain. For me this just goes to show he doesn't bleed blue and green but rather dollar signs. Give me a leader with some fire.
  4. Hang onto him for 2 more years while we're still 'building', then buy him out for a 4 year penalty when he has 2 years left on his deal. It's not a matter of if he will be bought out it's a matter of when... There's just no point to buying him out now. We get huge cap savings next season but we're still going to be in the bottom half of the league. Plus we're trying to rid ourselves of $ and contracts. He's still serviceable right now. I firmly believe he needs new blood beside him. Hoping we can move Myers after his bonus this summer. OEL has been handcuffed beside Myers his entire stint in Vancouver. Tough teammate to play with. I'm not confident OEL will ever find his game to the level it was in Arizona, but even if he can find his game to resemble last year - it's fine. Here's what a buyout looks like when OEL has 2 years left on his deal: We will likely have ELC's and cheaper contracts on the roster throughout this first two buyout years so I don't think it's unreasonable. The last two years at $1.54M are chump change.
  5. Definitely a minority but I see where you're coming from, as do friends of mine who aren't Canucks fans. He's slipped this year for sure, and we could still get a haul for him. I'm of the belief that a good team infront of the goaltender can make anyone look good. As can a bad team in from of the goaltender make anyone look bad. I'm not opposed to finding a cheaper option and improving the team infront of the goaltender with that money. I think he's a solid goalie. Not Elite, but he has star quality. It would sting if he left and we couldn't find a solid replacement though, and goaltending became our downfall. I'm so used to having good goaltending since Luongo, us fans could be biting off more than we can chew by encouraging a Demko trade. Torn on this one... Personally I'd hold onto him for the rest of the season and see how he performs. If he struggles it could diminish his trade value a little but I think there would still be teams lining up for him in the offseason.
  6. Country club b.s. all starts with the Captain in my opinion! He held the most chips in the room and all we had to show for was losing due to bad habits. Petey is going to lead this team to greatness.
  7. He's dispensable. Also, as others have said.. it opens a roster spot up. We all know that Bo isn't going to be traded for picks. He's going to be traded for multiple players coming back.
  8. He's locked in for another 2 years. They history have struggled getting players to want to play there. Trading for them while there is term solves that issues. They just scored the biggest UFA to an 8 year contract and havs lots of talent in the pipeline. They are riddled with injuries too. Laine has been out for the majority of the season. Werenski has been out basically all year. Voracek. Jake Bean. They are better than their record suggests.
  9. This would be an incredible move. Gavrikov would likely sign for ~$4M. Give him the 4x4 Gudbranson deal. In a perfect world we could make moves like this where redundant/underperforming players can be moved for players who can play Tocchet style tough, unified, and selfless hockey. All the while we save on the cap. If we could still retain Bo but make a few trades like this involving Boeser, Garland, and Myers we could see a big change in how this team plays. If Bo goes it would definitely give us more cap flexibility and options this summer, but I actually don't think this team is that far off from being a competitive/playoff team with the right moves in place. Despite our record this season I truly don't believe we're that far off. If we got rid of 4-5 guys and we able to replace them with cheaper, harder working options who know their role it would go a long way to becoming a winning hockey team. Toughness, willingness to fight for your brothers, and effort are infectious to the group. Frankly we have loads of skill, it's the buy-in and commitment that this team is missing.
  10. How cool would it be to land Michkov if we end up picking in the 3-5 range. Mikheyev Kuzmenko Michkov Maybe he'd come to North America sooner with some Russian persuasion!
  11. We need someone who actually uses their size to their advantage and makes quick, smart decisions. When I watch Myers it's like I can literally watch him think the play, and then make a dumb decision. Pucks die on his stick. He's not outright turning it over, but he's constantly giving up possession by putting the puck off the glass in the zone when there are passing options open. There will be options in FA and through trades. Myers is a 5/6 guy and can be easily replaced by a contract half as rich.
  12. Can't wait till Bo is gone. Can't wait for new leadership. So sick of no accountability in the room. It all starts with the captain as he holds the most chips in the room. I think this move is going to do wonders for this team.
  13. Seeing alot of 'Trade JT sign Bo' on the boards. IMO JT has more top end talent than Bo. He needs his leash/muzzle... But Bo has been a terrible captain. There's a reason why this team's leadership is being called out by the coach 2 games in. There virtually is none with our silent captain. 31 goals so far is great but his shooting % is not sustainable and he disappears half our games. Not worth 8M in my books. IMO JT is the better player, he just needs to be put in his place. When Bo is gone and the captaincy goes to Petey I think he will realize his place on this team. Also Tocchet will take care of him. JT is more valuable at 8M and can low-key put up 70 points in the next 4 seasons.
  14. Right side D are looking weak. Best top end options are Severson and Dumba. There are some 5/6 guys with size that could be considered though.
  15. I actually agree with this. He's disappeared as of late. Ideally he's on the 3rd line but still munching minutes with the 1st unit PK.
  16. F*** YEAH!!!! I was just thinking to myself..... Why do fans want this guy traded? He's one of 2 maybe 3 players who can "drive play". Pettersson, Kuzmenko, and Bo (at times). Kuz has pure talent and skill. He can hold onto the puck and make plays. Keeping him and keeping Pettersson happy is loads more important than a late first that won't see playing time for 3-4 years minimum.
  17. I agree. Those 3 gone would be a huge change but this team needs HUGE CHANGES.
  18. Agree with this assessment other than JT. He's having an off year but he'll be back once Tocchet puts a muzzle on him, and Petey takes the C.
  19. And a roster that buys in as a group. Too many individuals on this team.
  20. Yeah but it's absolutely not on Tocchet. He's literally had 1 practice
