The reason he has 4 years left is owners wanted him to have a long deal, If they redecide then that doesn't matter. -

From what I have heard torts ain't to popular with the team. I don't think he is a fit. We went from one extreme to another, need a coach somewhere in the middle. I think torts and/or gillis goes in next couple weeks. -
@taj1944: Elliotte saying there was a possibility that Torts was going to be fired if they lost tonight. Wow @taj1944: PJ: Are you saying Torts was going to be fired? Elliotte: There was a possibility tonight if they lost that something was going to happen I know some of you don't like botch but he is on the inside and usually has great info, make sure u read the provies. More on the torts situation and morning practice. http://blogs.theprovince.com/2014/03/08/the-van-provies-canucks-win-could-have-saved-torts-job-while-cherry-ruins-everything/ BEST STORY Here’s the thing when the Canucks hired John Tortorella. It was either going to work, and he was going to be able to squeeze one more playoff run out of this veteran Canucks team. Or it was going to be a disaster. Still, no one could have seen this. It’s been epic. The Canucks have won six games in 2014. The top line has scored zero goals. It’s the second week of March. The Sedins are ruined. Alex Burrows is ruined. The power play is ruined. Roberto Luongo’s agent orchestrated a trade to get him out. And Ryan Kesler would like his agent to do the same. The team appeared to tune Tortorella out sometime after the 40-game mark, which may be a record. The coach got suspended for going lunatic fringe which is as obvious a turning point for this season you’re going to find. And now, plenty are predicting this is all going to bring down the Mike Gillis era. Think about this logically. If Gillis’s job really is on the line, and he wants to keep it, who might he be blaming for this epic implosion? Do you think he would suggest this could be on the coach, who just may have been the owner’s choice to begin with? As the story goes Saturday, Gillis wanted Tortorella on the ice for the Cancuks gameday skate. Tortorella does his media obligation before his team skates, and then usually goes home. It’s odd. Has been all year. He did the same Saturday. Whether Gillis wanted him there or not, there was then speculation that if the Canucks lost to the Flames, Tortorella could have been fired within 48 hours. It is inevitable. Either Gillis will do it or the new GM will. Unless you believe in playoff miracles… BEST QUESTION How did Tortorella get a five-year deal? The Canucks weren’t bidding with other teams. This wasn’t like NY which had to give AV five years, because if they didn’t Dallas was ready to. There was one team that wanted Tortorella. Actually, one guy. BEST IRONY If Kesler wanted out because of Tortorella, he is now being used to try and save the coach’s job. Of the final 6:23 tonight, Kesler played 5:06. The guy was a monster in the faceoff circle, winning 67%. Defensively, he also wiped out the Flames top line. After the game, Tortorella made a surprise appearance in the locker room to thank him.

I am guessing One of three options happen realistically. 1 Kesler traded at draft and possibly followed by 1 or 2 other core players for a rebuild. 2 canucks sign a scorer in the ufa market to encourage Kesler to want to stay. Vanek/moulson/Stastny 3 nothing... I think Pens will push with a real offer at the draft depending how thier playoffs go, which I don't think will be great.

If you haven't read it... Interesting take on GMMG and van situation and trade deadline http://blogs.theprovince.com/2014/03/05/van-provies-deadline-day-special-and-still-shocked-at-kesler-offer/

So the deal from Pitsburg was actually terrible if this is to believed. @garymasonglobe: Pitt offered Van B Sutter, 1st-rd this year; 2nd next for Kesler. Gillis wisely said no, needed prospects on top of. Pitt balked. So no deal GLAD no trade happened

To Pit Kesler 2way center 2more years can and would probably play wing as a shooter, loves shooting the puck Edler (great contract and can fill in with Letang injury and then be great 3-4guy) Richardson 1 more year at just over a million, great at PK and defensive shutdown to replace Sutter Retain 50% on Richardson To Van Maatta high end defensemen of future and now Bennett scoring winger of future and now Sutter good defensive center more a high end shutdown 3c that can fill in the 2 spot. Have him and Horvat flip next year until Horvat takes 2C 1st 2014 (late almost a 2nd) 2nd 2015 unless make SCF in 2014or2015 then 1st 2015 Works with Letang on LTIR
