[PROPOSAL] Biggest Blockbuster Trade in NHL History
-AJ- replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Always fun to try to make crazy deals like this. I think the Blackhawks probably don't take that though, even with three 1st round picks and some decent prospects and roster players. I think the Hawks would like a more sure thing as part of the deal. Probably a young player that has already begun to prove himself in the NHL with one or two good years. Hoglander might be the closest thing we have to that, but Hoglander's value is also hard to gauge right now--is he ready to burst forth and score 40-50 points next year in the NHL or will he struggle with NHL hockey again? I still think he has a ceiling of a 60-65 point 2nd liner, but I'm not sure how likely he is to hit that. -
Crosby didn't crack the 2006 lineup, but then, I think hockey world in NA is more accepting of young talent now. Who knows, maybe Bedard is better than Crosby at that young age.

Yeah, Bear is nice, but not worth $2.0M+

[discussion] top 2 lines with our current roster
-AJ- replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Were Chaput or Megna top six forwards? Sometimes a coach plays a guy in a role to fill a temporary gap, not because they are actually a long-term fit. -
[discussion] top 2 lines with our current roster

Mikheyev - Pettersson - Kuzmenko Garland - Miller - Boeser I see other dark horses to make it in there as Beauvillier, Podkolzin, Hoglander. I don't expect Di Giuseppe to remain in a top six role--he was a temporary fill in and is probably a bottom six guy at best and back to Abbotsford at worst. -
Jake Virtanen is the perfect counter-argument. It could be argued that he was better than our other options, but for the long term success of the team, it would've been better for him to stay in Abbotsford longer, as he would've likely developed into a more mature and well-rounded player. As for them playing at the same time, the argument is simply that only one goalie can be in net at once. If Demko plays 65 games like he can, Silovs will not get much ice time, which could be a concern for his development. That said, a reasonable solution is that if Silovs is good enough, Demko can be limited to more like 55 games and we can give Silovs about 30 games, which can be argued as better for development than 60 AHL games, as long as Silovs is ready for NHL-level play.
-
Could be the case. I didn't consider that.
-
I've been of the mind that it's best for Silovs to stay in Abbotsford and dominate as an AHL star next year while riding Martin as the NHL backup, but the reality is, we have to at least give him a shot. If he outperforms Martin (or whoever else is contending for the spot) as the backup next year by a significant margin, we should at least seriously consider giving him some serious NHL time. I'll take a wait and see approach and see how the pre-season goes. I think it's his spot to win--as of now, I expect he's slated for full-time starter duties in Abbotsford, but he could play his way into an NHL role.
-
He wore #36 all year this year in Abbotsford. It's quite likely he wears #36 in the NHL again.

I've got a feeling that Beauvillier's cold streak to end the season is a sign of things to come. 9 points in 22 games from March onward is a bit concerning for me. While I'm not convinced Boeser will ever be the 40-goal guy I dreamed of, I still think he has potential to be a solid 2nd line winger who can score 55-65 points and maybe 30+ goals if he can get his touch back. Garland is a hard one to read--when he's hot, he looks like a high-end 2nd liner capable of 65 points, but when he's cold, he looks like a nervous mouse, scurrying around without actually accomplishing anything. I voted to keep Garland and Boeser, but honestly, I've made my peace with the idea of losing any or all of these guys.

One of the interesting things here is that Schenn has performed so well over the past two years that I don't think it's unreasonable for him to make well over $2M on his next contract, which could become a sticking point.

(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft
-AJ- replied to Baratheon's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like 11 is close to equal 19 + 2nd rounder--maybe just a bit unfavourable for us. Adding in an entire contract that's expensive like OEL seems like almost a 0% move. Myers is a lot more reasonable since he's just got one year left on his deal and is a bit cheaper, but even that might require some retention on our end. -
That's how I read it as well. I get the feeling Vancouver will move on, as much as I love him. Schenn is probably best-suited on a team aiming to go deep in the playoffs like the Leafs.
-
Love how Myers is performing, but this reminds me a bit of Eriksson, who always seemed to perform better for Sweden than the Canucks. Hopefully we get the best Myers yet in his last year. I highly doubt he'll be back after this year, especially if he has a good year and wants to cash in again.

Aquilini was livid that Canucks picked Juolevi over Tkachuk
-AJ- replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
We won't be seeing the "Aquilini was livid that the Canucks picked Pettersson over Glass" articles any time soon I bet... -
Fair points. I would bet on him staying in the KHL, but I guess he's technically still our property as far as the NHL is concerned.
-
He signed with Traktor of the KHL today.

Relegated to a Canucks trivia question.

To be fair, we don't know that we would've even selected Guenther in the draft anyway.
