  1. I strongly agree with this actually. Winning the cup is an unreasonable expectation in this day and age and as more careers with a 30+ team league finish, we'll see more and more legends retire without a Cup.
  2. Very tough call, but I'm going with Nazzy. Ask me tomorrow and it might be Hank or Dank though. Those are the only three options IMO.
  3. Personally, I wouldn't put the Sedins in the HHOF based on their on-ice play. I think the only reason them getting in at all is merited is because of their off-ice work. I think they're fringe HHOFers when it comes to on the ice, but I would probably have them out of the Hall (though I suspect many would disagree with me). It's their incredible off-ice work that gets them in IMO.
  4. It is what matters most, but I still don't think it's close personally. He had one run past the second round and although it was great, I think if you're gonna focus on playoff performance as a metric, you'd want more playoff success. Linden's teams had a 45.97% win percentage in the NHL playoffs and although he stepped up his game in playoff times, I don't think it brings him close enough to compete with HHOF levels. Bo Horvat may end up in the same boat. He's shown that he can elevate his game in the playoffs, but I don't think he'll ever get into the Hall, even if he wins the Conn Smythe with 20 points in 21 games in a Cup win or something. You need more than one good run and the regular season matter too.
  5. No and no. His play on the ice isn't even close to getting him in the Hall and his only chance would be if he was a coach or in team management and the combined part of both of those getting him in.
  6. I'm not sure Petey will ever win a Selke, but he's shown signs that his defensive game is better than a lot of offensive stars. His work ethic goes a long way to that. Few things make me smile more than seeing Petey throw everything at trying to get a puck back from an opponent if he loses it.
  7. Thanks for sharing. I never realized how short a time Quinn was our coach for. I'm actually switching my vote to AV as a result.
  8. I'm going with Quinn, but AV is a close second. Crow and Nielson could be candidates for 3rd I think.
  9. Typo, haha. Supposed to be "for the most part".
  10. Surprised he still gets that much. Maybe he's improved.
  11. They can, but it's not too likely they will. Boeser sat out of camp until he signed. I expect they'll sign quite late, but before game 1 of the regular season. Benning seems to have a penchant for playing the long game with big RFAs and has come out with pretty solid deals in the cases of both Horvat and Boeser.
  12. Interesting to see the top two. Also interesting to see the correlation between passes per 60 and perceived stars for the most part.
  13. We have solid depth at the low end, but I think our top 4 is pretty weak compared to better teams unless some of our expected top guys improve.
  14. Quinn is my pick. I lean towards Gillis for my 2nd choice, but Benning and Burke are in the conversation too. Benning could end up 2nd if this team ever does take off, but the jury's still out on that.
  15. I wasn't really that aware of what had happened, but I recall seeing that my grade 3 teacher was visibly upset when she talked to us about it that morning. it wasn't really until years later that I really understood the gravity of what took place that fateful morning.
  16. Interesting. Are there any sort of gender-related restrictions for the league? Could a 21-year old former WHL player join the league or is that not allowed?
  17. Is the league still restricted to women? Is it just a change in name or moreso than that?
  18. I think this guy may have some advice:
  19. Looks like he's good enough for an NHL job probably.
  20. I always felt like the closest comparables style-wise were Datsyuk and Gretzky. Obviously he's not as good as either player, but his game style matches theirs.
  21. I don't watch enough of other sports to participate in the poll, but I can speak to the NHL. Modern day players would dominate players from the 20th century, especially in today's rules. If we went by 90s or 80s rules, some of the bigger guys of the days past may take advantage, but even then, players have generally been getting bigger over the years, but less physical. The biggest difference, especially compared to the 80s and earlier is goaltending for sure. The butterfly style is far superior and any goaltender still using standup (80s style), would struggle mightily and be lit up. McDavid would score 5 goals a game with that goaltending.
  22. I'm looking at all players, but a bit hesitant, mostly on longevity. Crosby has the hardware of guys like Yzerman and Sakic already and arguably even more. Yzerman and Sakic both have one Conn Smythe, Crosby has two. Yzerman and Sakic both won the Lester B. Pearson Trophy once, Crosby has won the equivalent award three times. Sakic won the Hart trophy once, Yzerman never won it, Crosby's won two Hart trophies. Neither Yzerman nor Sakic ever led the league in goals or points, Crosby's led the league in goals twice and points twice. The only edges those legends have over Crosby is longevity and Selke voting: Yzerman won a single Selke trophy, Sakic peaked at 2nd in Selke voting, but Crosby's only been as high as 4th thus far. The big thing making me hesitate is longevity: Yzerman: 692 goals and 1755 points Sakic: 625 goals and 1641 points Crosby: 486 goals and 1325 points That said, Yzerman played much of his career in the 80s and early 90s. Sakic had the benefit of the early 90s, but spent most of his career in the dead puck era. Crosby's entire career has been post-lockout, which, with the exception of 2005-06, has been pretty similar to the dead puck era. I'm not 100% confident I have him above those two, but I think it's closer than many realize.
  23. The Oilers did make it to game 7 of the 2nd round in 2017 with McDavid, the first time they made the playoffs in a long time. He did underperform though with 9 points in 13 games. That said, in 2019-20, he was insane, scoring 9 points in just 4 games even though his Oilers got dumpstered by the Blackhawks. Still, I want to see high point production in a deep run from him--at least to the conference finals.
  24. I've been debating him as high as 6th in my mind recently. Not sure I'm convinced of that yet, but we'll see.
