  1. Lemiuex would have 90% of the votes and the poll wouldn't be interesting, so I don't mind the omission.
  2. Until McDavid wins a Conn Smythe, Crosby is my pick. I don't think any player on this list can match what McDavid did in the 2020-21 regular season, but playoffs matter. The Conn Smythe is the ultimate individual trophy and Crosby's won two. Other close names are Lindros, Lafleur, and Ovechkin. After that, the next tier is pretty big IMO. Probably Potvin, Thornton, Kane, Stamkos, MacKinnon, Matthews, Hawerchuk...it gets hard not to include almost everyone in the next level. A lot of guys have had at least one great season that deserves consideration. Even guys like Lecavalier and Hall both had one incredible season.
  3. I definitely felt like he was gonna have a good NHL career. Edmonton wasn't great, but I'm surprised no one signed him. Offensively at least, he looks like a decent 3rd line guy.
  4. Indeed. It's akin to a parent wanting to punish a child so that they learn a valuable life lesson. Virtanen might benefit from a humbling experience in the AHL again for a while, even if not as a hockey player, as a person. Although the KHL isn't the top league in the world, it is the top league in Russia and the surrounding area and so it may feel like a microcosm of the NHL to some degree.
  5. Safe bet is Pettersson, but there are several options. I could see Miller and Boeser competing for it. Behind them, Horvat and Hughes are both darkhorses as well and maybe if Garland is Miller 2.0, he could maybe surprise and lead the team too. I'd be shocked if any of the other options led the team.
  6. Boeser struggled only a bit, but Horvat had his best year-to-date after signing his contract. He was injured but his points-per-game was 0.69, which was the highest in his career to that point.
  7. Lots of good choices, but I went with the trade that landed us Ronning, Courtnall, and Momesso. So much of those great 90s teams in one trade.
  8. Boeser was signed early into training camp. The latest I expect is right before our first regular season game.
  9. My reaction was the same as yours. Petey skates like the wind and he's one of the most competitive players I've seen on the Canucks. Obviously Hughes has high level puck skills too. Of course I have homer bias, but especially those three ratings are absurd to me.
  10. Reinhart and Brown come to mind as options, but Jovo is the closest we've had to a Norris winner so he gets my vote.
  11. To be fair, I saw several posters on CDC talk about Loui as though he was sub-human at times. A bad player? Sure. Lazy? Sometimes. Sub-human? Disgusting. I'm not defending his play, but there's no doubt that Vancouver and it's fans were as hard on him, if not harder, than he was on the team. I wonder how people would change their tune if Loui had come out about some degree of a deep depression and suicidal thoughts while in Vancouver. It's a shame how often the human side of hockey is forgotten. It royally pissed me off how many fans seemed to magically change their tune about Botchford as a writer when he died suddenly. Must it really take the death of a man for us to see him as a human with intrinsic value?
  12. They put Baertsch on waivers, which was insane to me, but he actually made it through. That said, Baertschi did have a 3.3M cap hit, so that probably helped. Juolevi is still very cheap, so he'd be more likely to be taken.
  13. I would agree, but Green has set a precedent of letting guys steal jobs and forcing tough decisions (Motte comes to mind most prominently).
  14. If he performs like my gut says, someone's going somewhere that's not Vancouver, but I don't know our defensive depth enough to know who.
  15. My gut feeling tells me that Rathbone is gonna earn a spot at camp this year and force some very hard decisions.
  16. Very weird to see him in another jersey, but I love him wearing #2 in honour of Ohlund.
  17. Ankle socks, which are much shorter. Not really my thing personally, but most people my age wear them.
  18. Suppose you're right. I never really think about who plays which side.
  19. Roy in the playoffs was unstoppable. I'd pick him over Hasek by a hair. Three Conn Smythes are unmatched.
  20. Honestly, I think OEL is probably the #4 guy when it comes to shutting down the opposition. I'd have Hamonic, Myers, and Poolman probably all above him.
  21. It's the peak of his career in the sense that it's all he's done at the best league in the world. He's technically Canucks property, but I had already largely written him off and have now completely written him off. Hoping for him to return is crazy.
  22. Possibly, but there's some music in that genre that does include singing. Now We Are Free from the movie "Gladiator" comes to mind as an example.
