I believe it's lingering from the missed playoffs of 2020-21. Given that the last experience of the Canucks playing hockey ended poorly, some fans are stuck in a negative mindset until we see actual results that change their mindset. If we start the season 4-0, the entire feeling will change.

I think when things go poorly (bad losses or missing the playoffs), CDC does trend towards the HF Boards and it gets pretty brutal to be a part of it. The difference is that when the Canucks start doing well again, CDC brightens up considerably (overall) and the HF Boards still finds a way to be negative about it.

[Report] Evander Kane accused of betting on Sharks games
-AJ- replied to Brad Marchand's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Another reason why I'm so happy Benning drafts for and trades for character. Exhibit A: [insert Boeser Da Beauty League clip here, because I'm too stupid to figure it out] -
[Report] Evander Kane accused of betting on Sharks games
-AJ- replied to Brad Marchand's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Poor wife and kids. If this is true, and I doubt there's much reason to think it's not, I can imagine heavy fines at the very least towards him. I truly hope Kane gets his life together because his wife isn't gonna have infinite patience and when a man loses his money, job, wife, and kids, it can definitely get pretty grim. Hope he wakes up before it comes to that. -
Just gotta mention that one-way contracts only determine how they are paid if they go down to the AHL and have nothing to do with waiver eligibility. Old EA Sports NHL games perpetuated that misunderstanding some years back. The rules relating to waiver eligibility have to do with experience and age, I believe. I don't know the exact rules, but Poolman is almost certainly waiver-eligible.

No way in a billion years does Buffalo do this (not considering contracts or Eichel's rumoured desire to leave). As you mentioned, Eichel and Dahlin are both better than Petey and Hughes. That said, Eichel, while probably still having many good years left, is probably in the last year or two of his best years, as is often the case with superstars.

[Signing] Rangers re-sign Ryan Reaves

Good deal IMO. -
I love this guy.

[Signing] Blue Jackets re-sign Zach Werenski

Might be okay, but that could bite them in the butt. -
I'd guess based on AHL reports from Cull and co., but I'm not sure. I was also very confused as to why Baertschi was never given a fair chance back in the NHL, but sometimes these puzzling decisions are made. We'll see how both Rafferty and Baertschi play with their respective new teams.

[Discussion] Are the Canucks now a legitimate playoff team?
-AJ- replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
I'll say yes, but it's far from certain. I think we have a good chance to make it though. -
From what I recall, this is the first time we've ever moved a player from the "Alumni" section to the "Current Roster" section.

It sounds like he's saying that for a short period of time, Poolman was their top minute guy, but as you say, he was their #4 guy by TOI this past year overall, so it couldn't have been for the entire year.

[Signing] Canucks sign Nic Petan
-AJ- replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He's gonna tear it up in Abbotsford. -
Love his new cheap deal. Way to go Sutter. He could have surely got more money elsewhere.

[Signing] Golden Knights sign Sven Baertschi
-AJ- replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Hoping he gets a serious chance and makes the team. -
[Signing] Kings sign Alexander Edler
-AJ- replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Too much money for Edler, but I'll truly miss him. Was often one of my favourites. He'll be back for the Ring of Honour. -
Yep, but only the buyout penalty part, not the entire cap hit.

Some observations: - TOI suggests he was used as a #4 in Winnipeg - Average possession metrics - No offense in 2020-21, but decent offense in 2019-20 (on pace for 23 points in 82 games) I would expect about 15 points in a full season, very low offense - Average size for an NHL defenseman - Right-handed - 1.77 hits per game -- moderately high, but not crazy high - Average shot blocking for a defenseman - Extraordinarily responsible on the penalty front - Played on the 2nd PK unit for the Jets in 2020-21 - Scored against very little as a 2nd unit PK player relative to teammates (consider that 2nd unit doesn't face top guys as much) - Almost never plays PP - Looks like a discount Tanev
