    Jay Beagle | #83 | C

Character guy that I think was a really positive impact player for his teammates. All the best to him as his career winds down.
  2. Reading on the Coyotes subreddit suggests that the part they dislike the most is losing Garland. Most Coyotes fans are okay with the deal, but many are really sad to lose Garland.
  3. I think Graovac would've been a good fit too, yes. Almost certainly cheaper too, though I'm not sure how his defense holds up compared to Sutter's.
  4. I do like OEL quite a bit, but he's not Norris-calibre anymore. Top 4 for sure and maybe even still top 2, but not Norris, at least not as of the past two years when he didn't receive any Norris votes. I'm still very excited with this deal though.
  5. My gut reaction is that this is a good deal for us, but there are a LOT of moving pieces, so it's really hard to rely on the gut reaction. We move out TONS of cap, but take on a monster contract with OELs. Garland is also a very good take as well, but he needs a new contract.
  6. I think he's a pending UFA (group 6, whatever that means), so I'm not sure if we have any sort of value there.
  7. Virtanen's ending might be worse, but at least he's had some sort of NHL career. Scott Scissons of the 1990 draft was also picked 6th and played 2 NHL games.
  8. I personally think being bought out is by far the biggest wake-up call of his career so far. It might be enough, when other smaller things weren't.
  9. Hope he figures out his life priorities and that this is the wake-up call he needs.
  10. I'm fine with Sutter, but if we still have Beagle, then he seems a bit superfluous with the acquisition of Dickinson. Ideally, I'd like Dickinson and Sutter to play 3C/4C (okay with either player in either role) and Beagle moved on from, but Beagle still has another year on his contract. I'm hoping we re-sign Hamonic. He's not as good as Tanev, but is a good reliable guy to play with Hughes.
  11. You make fair points. I didn't consider his aging body as he goes into his 30s and how that might affect injuries and his recovery time.
  12. I wouldn't say heavily injured, but definitely missing a good number of games. He's got 165 games out of 208 possible games in the past three years, which pro-rates to about 65 games per 82-game season. Definitely Tanev/Salo-like in that regard.
  13. Depends on if Hyman can actually maintain the production he's had the last two years in Toronto. He was scoring at a roughly 60-point pace, which I'd say is worth $5M per year at least, but I'm not sure if he'll actually maintain that. If he struggles right out of the gate, this could be Eriksson, the Edmonton Edition.
  14. Agreed. It does address what I believe to be their biggest weakness. I'm just not sure it'll be worth the long-term hurt when Hyman is in his mid 30s.
  15. Yeah, Edmonton's biggest problem isn't line mates for McDavid, but threats on other lines than McDavid. He can score 120 points on his own, but as the Jets showed, if you can somehow shut down McDavid and his line, they have nothing left.
  16. I'd expect this tbh. The only one I'd even consider not matching would be one of four 1st round picks and even that might not be worth letting go.
  17. Might still be worth it. Wallstedt would be about 7 years younger than Nedeljkovic and might be ready for some training to be a backup once Nedeljkovic is approaching 30.
  18. Highway robbery by Yzerman and the Red Wings. Took advantage of a team that couldn't get a deal done I guess.
  19. I figured that might be it. A bit tricky since he appears 2nd on the 2014 list.
  20. Remember that this assessment was before this most recent season, when Forsling had 122 games and Gaudette 120. Who's the third one you found? If it's just those two, you have to remember that I was comparing 122 games an 120 games vs 341 games (Hutton) and 314 games (Connauton), which does look more favourably on Gillis. As I did say, however, I noted the timing difference, which is relevant. And it is that timing difference that does seem to be making the difference. Demko will almost certainly pass 100 games in 2021-22, as will Hoglander (barring injury). Rathbone looks good, but we'll see if he sticks this year. And although I tend to think Tryamkin was overrated, your point about him is well-taken and I agree he would've surpassed 100 games at least had he chosen to remain in the NHL. All in all, the more that time goes on, the more it seems that Benning is proven to be the better late round drafter as well, not just in the 1st round.
  21. I'll hold my breath on some of the maybes, but we are getting some more sure things right now. I looked at it last year and was a bit surprised to find that Benning didn't look that much better if you looked strictly at NHL play (and not anticipating potential), but as you pointed out, the timing is relevant and some of Benning's draftees are still young and in development, so it's not really a fair comparison.
