My assessment I posted in the trade thread: Looks like a solid 3rd line centre. I expect Beags to be the 4th line guy and Sutter to 100% be gone now (if there was any doubt). Some info a cursory look tells me: - Not very good at face-offs - Relatively defensive usage last year - Very strong CORSI numbers given his usage - Fairly steady offensive production around 0.30 points-per-game, or 25 points in a full season - Just turned 26 years old - Pending RFA in need of a new contract - Not hugely aggressive, but does hit with his 6'2" 200 lb frame - Very responsible on the penalty front (9 minors taken, 15 drawn (15 drawn is 1st among Stars forwards) - Led Dallas forwards in blocked shots last year (19th in the NHL) - Led Dallas forwards in takeaways last year (57th in NHL) - 3rd (almost tied for 2nd) among Stars forwards in PK minutes last year All in all, it depends a bit on his contract, but this looks like a steal for a 3rd IMO. Not very much offensive potential and needs to work on face-offs to become a great 3rd line centre, but other than that, he's already a fantastic defensive forward.

I think they have better options in the expansion draft.

Both serviceable and significantly cheaper.

[Report] Canucks won’t protect Kole Lind
-AJ- replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Dickinson is an NHL player. Lind isn't. Of course he could get there, but let's not pretend they're on par with each other right now.- 276 replies

I like Lind as a prospect, but I won't die if he's taken. -
[Trade] Canucks Trade for Dickinson from DAL for a 3rd.

This is what I'd fully expect. Seattle has probably 3 or 4 options better than Holtby IMO.

Dipietro is not ready for full-time backup duty IMO, so we'd need to sign a cheap backup to play 20-ish games. I do think there's a chance Demko can pull a Markstrom and play close to 60 games though and remain good.

[Signing] Stars re-sign Miro Heiskanen
-AJ- replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Heiskanen is better than Hughes I think. This feels like a fair deal to me, assuming it's just a bit over $8M per year. -
He was on pace for 72 points this year. I'd be really happy if he can push to the range you've given too.

[DEBATE] Which #27 in their prime are you taking?
-AJ- replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I tend to be of the opinion that Niedermayer is overrated, but I still think I pick him here. Mahovlich is my #2 choice. #3 opens up a bunch I think. Viable choices are Sittler, Leach, or Hextall. Sittler - 10-point game is still the record and scored 117 points and was 3rd in Hart voting in 1977-78. Leach - 61 goals in 1975-76 and in those playoffs, set an NHL record for 19 playoff goals that is still tied as the record today. If memory serves, he's the only skater to ever win the Conn Smythe from a losing team. Hextall - Kind of an a-hole, but won the Vezina and Conn Smythe as a rookie, definitely his best year. #5 is probably between Tonelli and Roenick Tonelli - Scored 100 points and finished 3rd in Selke voting in 1984-85. Roenick - Three straight seasons of 100+ points including two straight of 50+. 1991-92 was probably his best year with 53 goals and 103 points in 80 games. Finished 5th in Hart voting and 9th in Selke voting. Also a tough customer. #7 - Alexei Kovalev - Most known for underperforming, but was said to be one of the greatest players when he put in the effort. Peaked in the height of the dead puck era in 2000-01, scoring 44 goals and 95 points in 79 games finishing tied for 4th in point scoring. Finished 3rd in All-Star Team voting for RWs behind Jagr and Bure. #8 - Daryll Sutter - Had his moments, but not up to par with the rest of this crew. Finished 4th in Calder voting in 1980-81, which was probably his best year. He scored 40 goals and 62 points in 76 games. Also had a similarly strong sophomore year, but it was cut short by injuries. Excelled in the 1985 playoffs as the Black Hawks went to the conference final against the Oilers, scoring 12 goals and 19 points in 15 games. -
I think the fact that Myers had a pretty strong season factors in quite a bit. His contract is not at all cheap and based on how he played in 2019-20, it was looking close to an Eriksson 2.0 deal, but he played a lot better this year, making his deal not as bad and definitely making him worth protecting. Hopefully he keeps his level of play up.

Wonder who's gonna replace Edler? We're gonna have to either make some trades or some potentially overpriced free agent signings.

[Report] Alexander Edler to hit free agency
-AJ- replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I expect he'll be exposed for the draft, but I'm a bit sad he won't retire a Canuck if this is true. -
That's not the jersey Abbotsford is using. There's not the same stripes on the sleeve like there are on Abbotsford's jersey. It's probably a knock-off or just the fashion jersey.

I'd love to offload him and sign a cheaper backup. I'm confident that Demko can take the reigns now without a veteran backup.
