  1. Could you not also say the same of LA, which fill be facing easier competition now? Shouldn't their percentages also boost up? I think it could go both ways.
  2. I wouldn't bet on them making the playoffs, but I don't think it's impossible. Here's the Pacific Division teams in 2020-21: Just swap out Arizona for Seattle next year. 6 of the 8 teams had a below .500 record, which is insanely bad, especially in our current era where .500 isn't even very good anymore. I would bet on both Calgary and Vancouver improving, as well as Seattle being in playoff contention, so I'd probably slot them in 6th for next year, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for Calgary or Vancouver to continue to struggle, or Seattle not to be as good as some expect. I also think LA, while they have some old pieces, also have some strong young pieces in the likes of Vilardi, Kempe, and Petersen. Let's not forget that Doughty still isn't that old at just 31 years old (32 by next season). So, in short, I wouldn't expect LA to be a playoff contender, but I also don't think it's wildly unlikely.
  3. In the pathetic Pacific division, there's probably a chance. Not much competition here.
  4. Seems a bit meh. Arvidsson is the age of a guy you get when your team is on the way up. The Kings do look to be heading up soon, but I feel like this trade is one or two years too early.
  5. Very true. I think the Norris voting is becoming more and more slanted towards defense these days, despite what detractors say. The evidence is in guys like Toews and Weegar getting significant votes.
  6. I think that's why Fox won over guys like Barrie and even Makar. Fox is truly excellent at both ends of the ice. People just see a young player who put up a ton of points and make assumptions without doing any research. Harvey was far better offensively than a lot of people realize. He absolutely dominated the scoring race for defensemen, being only barely challenged by the likes of Kelly and a few others here and there. People forget that the 50s and early 60s were very defensive eras and that 50 points actually meant a ton in that time, especially for a defenseman. Remember that this was in a time of 70-game seasons and when the scoring leaders scored 80-95 points most seasons.
  7. Happy to see that both Toews and Weegar got serious consideration. Both are vastly underrated by most fans. Fox was underrated too. Hedman was vastly overrated in this conversation for this year. Too many people just going off reputation instead of actual play. Nurse also had a really good year, though it's hard to determine how much of that was McDavid boosting his numbers. Even Chychrun getting his due this year.
  8. Finished my exam. Excited to have no homework for at least a few months now. No CPA until January! (assuming I passed this module)

      Congrats man!

  9. I'd like a shorter term, but that cap hit would be a steal, at least while he's still in his 20s and early 30s. Would probably be worth the cap hit to go to 8 years.
  10. Canadiens made me look silly last time, so I'll give them some games here. Lightning in 6, but hoping for a Habs win. There have been many Cinderella runs in the past, but almost all of them fall short: 1981 Wild 1982 Canucks 1986 Canadiens (WON) 1993 Kings 1994 Canucks 1995 Devils (WON) 1996 Panthers 1998 Capitals 1999 Sabres 2004 Flames 2006 Oilers 2010 Flyers 2012 Kings (WON) 2017 Predators 2020 Stars I'm hoping for another one added to the wins category, but it rarely happens.
  11. They are no longer the underdogs and, as Jimmy said, they've never really suffered. As Canuck fans, I think we associate a lot with teams that have gone a while without great success and the Canadiens haven't been to the finals since they won it all in '93. I think Vegas formed a lot of identity around being the underdogs and undervalued players, but they don't have that anymore.
  12. Petey has an odd mix of swagger and humility. Brock is just pure humility. Miller might have some, but he also really beats himself up for mistakes.
  13. Tampa's abuse of the system is one of the most egregious, but we were also quite a bit over the cap in the 2020 playoffs as well, when both Toffoli and Boeser were healthy. Maybe a modified version of the rule would be best. Something like a slightly expanded cap hit for the playoffs like 5 or 10% more than the regular cap limit.
  14. While I don't really like "Huggy Bear", I do appreciate that it's at least a little bit original. Most nicknames are pretty meh.
  15. Try this one on for size: The Islanders have the all-time record for the most consecutive playoff series wins right now at 19 consecutive playoff series wins. The Lightning right now have 6 and could make it 7 with a win tonight. A far cry from the dominance of the old days. Detroit won 7 straight from 2008-2009 and Pittsburgh won 9 straight from 2016-2018--those are the longest streaks in the salary cap era. The NHL was very different in the 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. Teams just don't dominate the league like they used to. There really is no comparison between dynasties of old and modern teams. Not to say that modern teams aren't great, but rather than they degree to which they dominate doesn't come even close to how much older teams dominated.

I don't think they ever said that OJ's the only player ever who gets beat.
  17. One's own philosophical views can come into view as well. I'd like to think I fear death less because I believe in an afterlife as a Christian, though to be fair, I've never had a truly near-death encounter, so who knows how I might feel in the moment.
  18. Sounds like an actual role rather than just a PR move. Hopefully. Sounds exciting.
  19. It's frankly very very hard to compete with the greatest teams of all-time due to the salary cap and parity in the league right now. Granted, the Lightning do look like possibly the best post-cap team (still need to prove it with more playoff success), but I think they still have a very long way to reach the 80s Islanders or the 70s Canadiens.
  20. Ah yeah, if he's done a decent amount of Twitch streaming, that will be great experience to springboard off of.
  21. Does that mean during the play or in intermission? I'm surprised a guy with no broadcast or live performance experience would get a shot like that (unless he has the experience and I just don't know)
