  1. I assume you didn't see the draft video from when Lind was drafted.
  2. Over his career, sure, especially during the regular season. Last playoffs and this year? He's a fringe 4th liner in terms of production. If you include the 2020 playoffs, in his last 51 games, he had 7 points (6G, 1A). That pro-rates to 11 points a year. That production is only acceptable to the premium 4th line guys who provide huge assets in physical play, defensive play, or leadership and they usually need those in droves to make up for that paltry production. Virtanen's absense of his prior offense is one (not the only) reason why we're struggling this year. At his peak, Virtanen is a fringe 2nd line powerforward with a good physical edge. At his valleys, as we're seeing now, he's a 13th forward or AHL material. Are the peaks worth the valleys? Last regular season, I would've told you "yes". This year I'm not so sure. I've always been on "team Virtanen" and I still am. However, just because I'm cheering for him to succeed, doesn't mean I can blindly look past his mistakes and failures.
  3. He, like Schmidt took some time, but both are looking quite nice now.
  4. Getting close to 500 career games! Incredible that he's already been around for that long.
  5. Rough calculations now suggest about a 10-5-0 record will get us into the playoffs assuming Montreal doesn't improve.

Also, if we were to win 14 of our remaining 15 games, the Canadiens would need a perfect 10-0 record to tie us (indicative of the 8 point discrepancy between the two teams).

Since our 6 - 11 start the Canucks have a .604 point percentage over the last 24 games.  If they play at the same point percentage over the next 15 games they wind up with 59 points.  If MTL goes 5 - 5 in their last 10 we are tied in points. It should be close down the stretch.

I'd love it if Montreal went .300 for their next 10 games, but I've had too many disappointments to get that optimistic to think that a .500 record would realistically get us in. Montreal will likely improve at some point, even if they don't get key players back.

I'm betting Montreal goes about 6-4 or 5-5 in their last 10. If they're worse, then great, but I'm not betting on it. I'll hope for the best, but expect the worst.

  6. I would bet that Vesey is the kind of guy who could dominate the AHL as one of it's top scoring forwards.
  7. I'm assuming it's just for while Edler is out.
  8. I think a worthy penalty would be $3M cap penalty for three years. Just a random number I pulled out of my head.
  9. Funny how small sample sizes work. With just two great games, Holtby again has his save percentage both above last year's and .900. It's a start.
  10. New calculations suggest an 11-5-1 record is about what we need to make the playoffs assuming Montreal keeps their current point percentage.
  11. Baffling that Chatfield ever gets time over Juolevi (obviously Juolevi wasn't ready last game). I'm hoping that when Edler comes back, Juolevi remains as the #6.
  12. Egregious missed call on the Kerfoot play, so they gotta even it up with Hughes. Dumb.
  13. ...okay lol. We definitely don't deserve this tie game, but I'll take it. Keep it going boys and lets steal a W.
  14. Defensive play by the team is kind of a joke right now. I guess maybe somewhat understandable given COVID recently and all, but we won't win much with 40 shots against per game.
  15. I hate to say it, but Chatfield gives the puck away a lot. He's inexperienced though, so he'll get better with time. As it is now though, he has a lot of room to improve.
  16. Awesome to see Boyd hand his stick to Hamonic, and then Boeser hand his stick to the more defensive centre in Boyd.
  17. I agree that it might be nice to see him get a game or two, but I don't think he has a realistic shot at backup next year unless he plays a good 8 or 9 games and plays decently.
  18. Montreal loses! Do it again, Edmonton.

-AJ- to his priest:  Father, it's been six months since my last confession & I have to confess that I wished for the Edmonton Oilers to win a game.

I can't bring myself to root for the Oilers.  I just can't.

@King HeffyThink of it as rooting against the Canadiens.

  19. Ferme labouchekin. I'll never forget Shorty's great quip when we played them.
