  1. One thing I noticed while pulling these stats is that Highmore is used in defensive situations quite a bit, especially this year so far. Maybe he's a penalty killer? I noticed he also did quite well in the 2020 playoffs, so maybe he's a Tyler Motte 2.0? We can only hope. Also, unlike Gaudette, he's already signed through to next year and is $225k cheaper. Might be Jim and the team trying to save some cap space.
  2. Sounds a bit scary that the team still might return on Friday even though Beagle just tested positive for the first time. Can we just wait until it's safe and play fewer games to end the season? Just rank us by point percentage, like last year.
  3. And knowing Benning, we'll still manage to get a superstar.
  4. It could be a good growing moment in preparation for next year. IMO this team has too many good young pieces not to eventually succeed.
  5. Kind of a brutal grind for what is really a race against Calgary to finish 5th in the division, but oh well, at least we're getting hockey.
  6. Too much for too long. Not a fan, but I guess now we just have to hope he finds his game again. If he can play like he used to prior to this season for the duration, this is actually a solid deal, but if he plays like he has this year, this will hurt.
  7. I think the 2019-20 Pearson was a solid 2nd line player, but the current one is more of a bottom six guy. Definitely either need to sign him for cheap or move on.

If it really is bad, he might just retire. He's not a young player anymore as you mention.

Boyd is unfortunately quite bad at face-offs, which makes me very hesitant to have him at 3C. His last two seasons average 38.9% in the dot. For comparison, even Gaudette is better, averaging 41.7% over the last two years.
  10. I would be quite happy with this kind of deal.
  11. Kind of a shame, but totally understandable. Twitter gave a platform for celebrities to expose their personal sides more to the world and the world seems to have gone and messed with it. Same reason why you can't find Bo Horvat's facebook account or whatever. There's a reason people keep their personal lives fairly private. Too many a-holes out there who just like to ruin people's day.
  12. Yeah I get that, but it still annoys me. There are exceptions, like Horvat, Burrows (2x4years) and the like, but most just get as much money as they can. Personally, for my own experience, I've found that it's worth taking less money for a better work experience. If I loved playing in Vancouver (as I suspect I would if I was an NHL player), I would take a less favourable deal to stay in Vancouver. I guess maybe I'm too hopeful. I didn't expect much for Hughes, but I had hope that Petey would be the sort to strong-arm his agent into taking a cheaper deal, but with his new premium agent, that's probably not happening.
  13. I think the flat cap might make JM push for bridges to keep things under control for now, but I'm not sure their agent will go for that. I suppose it will come down to how hard Hughes and Petey will let their agent push for money. Are they willing to potentially hold out of games? How much do they want to win? They must be aware that taking a massive cap hit lowers our chances of winning in the future.
  14. Not like cap inflation is something to factor in at all...no, surely not. Then his narrative might fall apart and we can't have that!

I think if his face-off percentages were better, he'd be a great 3rd line centre, but as it is, he's probably best off not taking face-offs and either playing as a winger or simply moving to centre after the draw is taken by another forward.
  16. I'd be okay with 2 or 3 years, but at a pretty cheap price. I do have a fear that Pearson won't be back to top 6 levels anymore. His current production is firmly bottom six level and he should be paid like an average 3rd liner. $3M is too much for any more than 1 year IMO. I'd prefer $2-$2.5M for 2 or 3 years, but I'm not sure he'll go that low.
  17. Get ready for more pessimistic one-liners
  18. Interesting proposal. Without reading the comments, I'm sure you're being roasted for this, but fans will tend to overvalue their own players. I think this is probably overpaying a bit though. Eichel is generally better than Petey, but is also older than Petey. Hughes and Dahlin are close, but I think Hughes is better right now. Both are having off years. Actually, when I look at it closer, Dahlin is really struggling this year, which isn't suprising. This would be a risky move and to be honest, I think a two-for-two swap is more realistic in terms of value, but I don't think Benning does that anyway. He's sold on Hughes and Petey and will need a really good deal or a player he specifically really wants in order to trade our core.
  19. He's certainly a cheaper option that wouldn't be a lot worse than Roussel--probably better to be honest.
  20. Gaunce had worse offense than Beagle for the majority of his time, and that's really saying something. However, he showed improvement over time especially later on. That said, it was a big improvement on almost nothing, so it still wasn't very impressive. It is interesting that he had 4 points in his last 4 NHL games, but it's hard to say if that was puck luck or a sign of genuine improvement. He has 9 points in 15 games with Vaxjo in the SHL, but I'm not sure that's really better than he ever was in the past, given the SHL is of a similar level to the AHL, and those are similar to his AHL numbers.
  21. I'm not sure there was anything to do with him being a Gillis guy, but I felt and still do feel that Gaunce wasn't given a fair chance. His defensive game was excellent and his offense was improving. His physicality left a bit to be desired given his frame, but I feel he would've grown into a very solid 4th liner for many NHL teams.
  22. Even in Gaunce's final year before his last 4 games, his offensive production was increasing, but sometimes it seems like once you have a certain reputation, it can be very hard to shake.
  23. Funny enough, by far Eriksson's best season was his 2nd in Vancouver, but he was injured, so it wasn't really noticed. It also still wasn't really that great.
