  1. I was always on the re-sign Tanev train, and on the fence with Marky, but leaning towards re-sign. I felt Toffoli was unnecessary. No idea how it works out, but I do think re-signing Petey, Hughes, and to a lesser degree (though not that much lesser now) Demko, was a big reason. Additionally, with the raise that Marky was going to need, we would've been very tight or even over the cap already this year, never mind getting Petey or Hughes to big contracts for next year.
  2. My calculations roughly estimate that we would have to go around 14-4-1 for the rest of the season to make the playoffs.

not only do we need mtl to crap the bed, they probably have to beat calgary and so do we. we are more likely to finish last in the division than make the playoffs

  3. It's a very confused way to teach a good principle. The idea of guilt for things that you yourself didn't do is ridiculous, but of course, understanding the history of how men have abused their power over women is also important. Unfortunately, by using such a misguided method, they may simply do more damage to these boys than good.
  4. Pearson's play has fallen off significantly this year and I have a feeling he won't get back to the top 6 level he used to be at. If we re-sign him, I really hope it's based on this year, not prior years. He shouldn't get even close to $3.75M in his next deal IMO.
  5. 8 points in 20 games is reasonably solid. His production over the last few years suggests he's about a 30-point guy over 82 games. A worthy bottom six forward most likely as long as his defense is reasonable.
  6. I'd guess Leivo-level is probably where he lands at a best-case scenario, which is pretty good. Worst case, he's a 13th forward for cheap enough.
  7. I'm just really eager to see if they can get to the second round of the playoffs. Then I'll be genuinely excited for them.
  8. Horvat has been picking up his offense a lot lately. 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points in his last five games. Great to see.
  9. Very excited, even if it's just a few fans, to see some people in attendance. Live attendance isn't huge for me personally, but seeing fans cheer on our guys adds to the atmosphere and makes the game more exiciting.
  10. Reminder on why we passed on Tkachuk:

oh man thats for sure Herb. I could handle BT here, but I think Podkolzin is going to bring a lot of, if not as much, physical presence as BT.

@Drakrami that song is so "mood" for how he's drifting around out there

      Ya I'm taking Tkachuk.

  11. What does this have to do with Vesey?
  12. Might be tempted to play Holtby, but I don't think we can afford to. I know it's unorthodox, but Demko is on fire right now. Keep him in the zone.
  13. Probably bolstered the confidence of the boys. They're so scared of our top guys they can't even dare give us the puck for a second.
  14. I'm slower than most to get mad at refs, but that was some brutal reffing at the end.
  15. Moving this thread to Current Roster to become the Jimmy Vesey thread.
  16. It's not Canucks-specific, nor is it a podcast, but I find that The Hockey Guy on YouTube has some nice analysis. He's a big-time Canuck fan, though tends to be a bit hard on them for that reason. He also tries to evenly focus on all 31/32 teams.
  17. I really do hope that Virtanen gets it together. I remain in his corner and was a big advocate of his after his 36 points in 69 games last year. I just want to call a spade a spade when I see it. Let's hope him getting more chances turns into points soon.
  18. Both Beagle and Roussel have spent almost no time on the PP, whereas Virtanen does get some PP time. In addition, Beagle and Roussel also play many minutes shorthanded, whereas Virtanen never does. Virtanen has the lowest points-per even strength minute of every forward on the team other than those with 0 points. He's scored one point per 103.5 minutes of even strength ice time. Roussel, has scored 1 point per roughly 93 minutes of even strength ice time, and is the 2nd worst on the team. Beagle is at 55.6 minutes of even strength time per point. Virtanen is being given little opportunity, but even still, he's underperforming. It's unreasonable to expect him to score at a 20-goal pace given his usage, but it's not unreasonable to expect far more than 3 points. If we assume he's on par with Beagle, he should at least be closer to 6 points, and I'm sure we all want him to score more points than Beagle.
  19. I'm not sure even defensive usage can justify 3 points in 27 games. Sutter has more points and he hasn't played a single second on the 2nd line.
  20. I think if Vezina voting happened tonight, Demko would finish top 5 for sure. I personally have him 4th right now, with only Varlamov, Vasilevsky, and Fleury ahead of him.
  21. Hm yeah, then Benning would push for 1 year probably. His agent would likely push for two or a long-term deal though.
  22. He'd be a much safer 6x6 signing given his age. That said, I think due to COVID cap issues, Benning will try to bridge deal him for something around 3/4M for two years or so.
  23. At this point, I'd expect him to finish around 8-10th in voting. Too many other decent rookies have cropped up. If Hogz can pick up his production a bit, there's a chance he could get closer, but it does get a lot harder once you get to the top 3.
  24. I've had a number. Things like "what if I just stabbed my mom right now" even though I love her very dearly. I think if it gets really nuts, it gets to OCD levels akin to what Corey Hirsch experienced, I believe.
