    Olli Juolevi | #48 | D

I'm really liking Juolevi, but I'd hold off from calling him a homerun just yet. Boeser, Petey and Hughes are certainly home runs and it's obviously too early to tell for Podkolzin. Once he gets NHL time we'll figure that out.
  2. Didn't know Emil was playing that well. At his age, I'm pretty skeptical he can be a top 6 NHL forward, but who knows, maybe he can be a scoring 3rd line guy.
  3. All depends on the contract. I'm a huge Edler fan and would love for him to retire a Canuck, but I do feel he's finally starting to slow down. It also depends on if he picks up his game or not as the year goes on. As it stands, I don't see him earning much more than $3M or so, especially in the COVID-cap world. If he's willing to sign a team-friendly deal, I wouldn't mind re-signing him, but if he does push for some money (precedent shows he probably won't), then it might be better to move on and find a replacement. Also, Edler is a LHD. I expect that Edler will be willing to sign a cheap deal and I'm hoping that we can make that work as he probably slides into a 2nd-pairing and maybe 3rd pairing role during his last few years.
  4. I would tend to disagree with the first statement a bit. Marky played 60 games in two straight seasons, notably including 2018-19, the season in which many consider him to have really broken through. He was obviously injured in 2019-20, but despite that, still played in 43 games (at the time 43 games out of 61 team games), which was a pace for 58 games, still a fairly high number, especially in today's NHL. That said, to your point, the Flames are still riding him far harder than we ever did, as he has played in 14 of 17 games, which would be an insane 68-game pace in 82 games. Almost no goaltender can endure that kind of reliance without hardship. I would agree that they're overplaying him and should try Rittich a bit more if they want to have a healthy Marky for the playoffs, should they make them.
  5. Good for him to chill out with less pressure. I think this will be a good move and good restart for him.
  6. Surprising, but tbh I don't know that much about him. Maybe he's a Horvat type. He's been a pretty consistent 2nd line forward, though I've always hoped he could become a 1st-line guy.
  7. Giving Demko major props here. Tonight was arguably the first night this season that he nearly stole a game for us. First time he's been dominant in a loss, which is a good sign to see. His save percentage has risen above .900 again as well.
  8. I believe players have to quarantine for 14 days if coming from the States, but just 7 days if coming from Manitoba. No idea why, but I did hear something about that.

Flocking back to the Virtanen thread.
  10. I've seen a small uptick in Virtanen's play lately, though it hasn't produced points yet. Here's to hoping he keeps it up and eventually the points start coming in.
  11. I wouldn't jump on that boat just yet. Hoagie has struggled to get points much lately and there's a lot of players who produce more. In addition, there are probably three defenseman who are doing quite well too. I'd expect Hoglander to finish around 10th in Calder voting at this rate.
  12. Interesting to see Motte get a lot of recognition--I actually almost put him on the list along with Myers, who's also been mentioned.
  13. I would bet he could hold 16% if he's more like his old self, but 24 or 25 goals sounds about right, provided he plays every game. About a 35-goal pace over 82 games.
  14. Time for a little positivity. Who's been the MVP of the Canucks so far at about the 1/3 mark of the season? For my money, it's been Brock Boeser, both because the competition has fallen away and because he's back in rookie form (and even better, perhaps). It's difficult to choose between all the remaining options I listed for the second or third choices. None of them have been bad per se, but none of them have been particularly great either. Early on, Horvat was doing quite well, but he's slowed down a bit as of late. Interested to hear some other thoughts and discover if this is a landslide or a close vote.
  15. From the bits I've watched, Myers' defense is still as terrifyingly inconsistent as ever, but his offense is up about 50% this year so far, which is nice. He's on pace for about 27 points in 56 games this year--he had 21 in 68 games last year. Curiously, ever since the 2020 playoffs, his PIM has gone through the roof too. On pace for 103 PIM despite the shortened season. That would be more than his previous highest at 72 in 73 games with the Jets in 2015-16.
  16. Kinda gotta agree. Funny how Boeser was probably our #5 or #6 best player last year and now he's launching up to our MVP about a third through the season.
  17. He's had 11 points in the last 12 games and is only -1 in those 12 games, despite our 6-game losing streak. He's fine.
  18. The performance during the playoffs was most impressive to me.
  19. I'm not sure about superstition, but maybe stition.
  20. Yeah, it legit would've been interference since the Flame didn't have the puck. Such a focus on criticizing by PITB that basic game rules are forgotten.

    Olli Juolevi | #48 | D

I have a strong feeling Juolevi will be a combo between Edler and Tanev in his prime. Score maybe 30-35 points at most and have really solid defensive play with some physical side too. I think he can be a 2/3 in his best years. Not flashy, but valuable nonetheless.
  22. I would disagree with fans that wrote off Markstrom at 31. He might not be great in the last year or two of his contract, but I expect he still has three or four good years left.
  23. Virtanen is a forward (well known to usually develop much quicker) and one who's played nearly 300 NHL games and is now in his 6th NHL season. Demko is a goaltender (well known to often take until late 20s to fully develop) and one who's played 46 NHL games and is in his 4th NHL season, but only his 2nd as a regular. If he doesn't work out, I imagine plan B is Dipietro.
