Feels like fans who've been a fan for only a few years and haven't faced tough times before. As I'm approaching 20 years as a fan, I think I've learned to be patient and not to panic too much over short term results.
Crazy thing is, a lot of the panicking fans are also long-time fans. I guess some people don't learn.
Fully agree. While Marky's deal might hurt the Flames near the end, there's no doubt that they got an incredible goaltender for at least the next few years, and we lost one.
Agreed. It's one thing if Tkachuk just took out Hughes with a dirty hit. It's another if he's just irritating you in your face. They should learn when it's a worthwhile penalty to take and when you're just grabbing the bait that Tkachuk is so good at dangling.
What a throwback. Good times.
Good decision for practical reasons really. We still have access to our taxi squad and if for some crazy reason we have enough injuries that merit it, we have quicker access to AHL players.
I think it would be far too reactionary to make big changes this early into a season like this.
I also don't think Virtanen is capable of enabling 1st line players. While the mentorship from Miller might be nice, it would be at the cost of that line's production and I'm not sure Jake would use it that well anyway. He's had plenty of mentorship opportunities and still exhibits both the same strengths and weaknesses. He's better on the 2nd or 3rd line IMO. I don't mind Boeser with Horvat and Hoglander though.
Maybe not quite the same, but I do believe that Makar is probably the better offensive defenseman and even in the same situation as Hughes, would probably have better offensive production. Of course, it's mostly just speculation at that point.
He's quite frankly running out of time. Hoglander has already pushed him out of the top 6 (once Miller returns) and depending on how good Podkolzin is, he may find himself under pressure to hold his 3rd line job too.
I didn't look into later rounds, but as for 2nd rounders, the last one was Artem Chubarov, drafted in 1998 at 31st overall and played 49 games in 1999-00.
