  1. Similar to the twins, because he's still a good player it would leave a hole on the roster, though of course he would also free up some cap space. Unless he has a fantastic year, I expect re-signing him would be pretty cheap though. The Sedins were about 37.5 when they played their last game and if Edler retired at the end of this year, he'd be about 35, so he'd definitely be leaving years on the table. I'd say he'll look for a 1- or 2-year deal. If it's 2 years, I suspect that'll be the last one of his career. As much as I'd love Edler to continue to push Canuck records, I don't see him playing late into his 30s or til 40, though I do believe he'd be capable of it.
  2. Should read about Doug Harvey. An even bigger star who had similar problems, though that was back before NHL salaries are as crazy as today. Just goes to show the value of smart financial sense. I honestly hope he gets some help to deal with his gambling addiction and help him learn some financial responsibility.

A cursory look suggests no. Pettersson hit 731 pages about a month and a half into his NHL career though. Virtanen hit it after one season.
  4. Has literally nothing to do with the post to which he was responding.
  5. Not really my style, but it's unique for sure. Will probably go down in mask history as one of the more memorable ones.
  6. I used to find him annoying, but his Brock Boeser calls kind of became iconic for me.
  7. Yeah I did think about him, but I decided to focus more on points than goals.
  8. One of the few Bruins from 2011 I managed not to hate.
  9. I don't know that much about Hamonic's specific skillset, but Tanev, although a defensive d-man, was also a pretty strong skater, which I think played into his ability to work well with Hughes. I'm not sure if Hamonic has that as well.
  10. Hi there! I had a burst of motivation to do some more hockey writing and since the topic was a Canuck-focused one, I figured I'd share it with you fine folks here: Feel free to read the post here (with prettier formatting) on my site: https://hookedonhockeyhistory.wordpress.com/2021/01/06/top-20-seasons-by-a-canuck-defenseman/ Or, if you'd rather, I've also posted the entire article down below here for you: Hope you enjoyed!
  11. Not at his current contract, but for $1M or something around league minimum, I believe he'll be given a chance. He's in the last year of his contract right now.
  12. I will grant you that his defensive game wasn't perhaps as good as I recall and I have to assume that was part of why he was cut, but I'm not sure it was worth the loss, given he still seemed like he was capable of scoring at a 20-goal, 40-point rate, even sometimes projecting to closer to 50 points. Regardless, it's in the past and I don't expect him to get another legitimate chance in Vancouver. I believe he'll have to wait for another team before he gets a fair chance.
  13. It's debatable that Bennett hasn't been that great at 4th overall either. Last season, Virtanen scored at a higher rate than 18-year old Sam Bennett ever has.
  14. Getting married and becoming a father are probably my two biggest ones yet to be achieved, but I'd also love to see the Canucks win the Cup, as with most here. Aside from that, I don't think I really have any big bucket list items.
  15. I believe he's claiming that Clark is the primary reason for our good goaltending, not he goaltenders themselves. Much like how Bracket was apparently the reason for all the good drafting, not Benning or the rest of his team.
  16. Look at his NHL numbers and show me when his play fell off, indicating he wasn't an NHL-level player anymore.
  17. They're different cases. Eriksson has seen his game fall off dramatically since his earlier days. Baertschi has maintained his level of play consistently, but ran into injury problems. Baertschi's game never fell off and there's no clear indication based on his level of play that he's not an NHL-calibre player right now.
  18. To be fair, he was a healthy scratch quite a bit during the playoff run. Scratched for 7 of the 17 games. Based on that play rate, he'd only be dressed for 33 of 56 games this year, assuming he's healthy.
  19. Few things would make me happier than a comeback form Baer. He's a player I've always defended and felt was underrated and I still feel that way. I hope he will be given a legitimate chance.
  20. I always remember him as the guy picked before Hodgson in the 2008 draft. For some reason, the two players reminded me of each other.
  21. His name change to Jack is news to me.
  22. I have a suspicion that Schmidt could become my favourite player this year.
  23. Good choice I think. I don't know that much about him, but I've always liked his game. Great two-way defenseman who can do everything despite being undersized for an NHL defenseman.
  24. I think those two are insanely exciting, but they (the team) have been both up and down. Vancouver seems to be on a sharp trend upward right now whereas Edmonton just suffered a humiliating play-in round exit.
