  1. Yeah, to be honest, I think I'm predicting too much offense from the players (it's pretty far above last year's rate), but I didn't feel like going through and reducing them by a bunch, haha. I expect the team to regress a little this year and take another big step next year.
  2. My stat predictions (some rounding throws the addition a bit off): Name Games Goals Assists Points Points/Game E. Pettersson 55 20 40 59 1.074 J. Miller 55 19 31 51 0.925 B. Boeser 56 20 26 46 0.817 B. Horvat 56 23 22 45 0.804 Q. Hughes 51 5 35 40 0.781 A. Gaudette 56 14 17 31 0.554 A. Edler 53 6 23 29 0.545 N. Schmidt 52 5 21 26 0.500 J. Virtanen 52 13 12 25 0.482 T. Pearson 55 13 12 25 0.451 N. Hoglander 50 9 15 24 0.480 B. Sutter 56 7 11 18 0.321 O. Juolevi 52 3 13 16 0.303 T. Myers 48 5 10 15 0.319 A. Roussel 44 5 9 14 0.328 T. Motte 52 7 5 12 0.231 T. Hamonic 42 3 8 11 0.262 Z. MacEwen 22 4 3 7 0.318 L. Eriksson 20 2 4 6 0.300 J. Beagle 45 3 3 6 0.136 J. Benn 27 1 3 4 0.162 B. Rafferty 2 1 1 2 1.183 J. Hawryluk 4 0 1 1 0.341 J. Bailey 6 1 0 1 0.111 Team Record: 27-25-4: 58 points, 5th in North - Barely miss playoffs Notes: - Team has a strong offensive year, but struggles defensively, causing them to miss out off the playoffs by 1 point - Miller regresses a little, as most expect - Pettersson takes a step forward above a point-per-game finally - Against all odds, Horvat continues to improve - Hughes has an outstanding second year, finishing 7th in Norris voting - Pearson regresses quite a bit with fewer empty net points - Motte has a minor breakout season offensively - Sutter has a comeback year, playing some minutes on a more offensively-minded line - Juolevi has an alright, but unspectacular rookie season (much like Stecher/Hutton) - Fans everywhere want Benning and Green both fired once the team misses the playoffs, but the Benning and the the Aquilinis hold their ground, giving them another chance (thankfully) - Hotlby and Demko split the games about 60/40 in favour of Holtby - Hamonic fills Tanev's role nicely, including being injured for about 15 games - Hoglander is the weak link on the 2nd line, but still fits in well enough. Gets some 3rd line time too with Gaudette and Virtanen getting a bit of top 6 time as well - Edmonton struggles without Klefbom and barely edges out Vancouver for the last playoff spot. The team is carried by a suprisingly decent defensive core and incredible offense from McDavid, Draisaitl, and an underrated Nugent-Hopkins - Winnipeg finishes 6th in a close race with the Senators, who improve notably - McDavid wins the Art Ross with an incredible 90 points, playing in all 56 games - Lafreniere wins the Calder with 50 points in 54 games - Stutzle is a Calder finalist North Division Standings Prediction: 1. Flames 2. Maple Leafs 3. Canadiens 4. Oilers 5. Canucks 6. Jets 7. Senators Extremely close division, maximum of 8 points separate 1st and 7th.
  3. Time for the annual prediction thread! This is usually done by other users, but due to COVID, things were kind of left behind. I've always loved these threads and enjoy making detailed predictions. This thread will lock just before the start of the season (early afternoon of Jan 13), so make sure to get your predictions in before then! You can edit your posts as much as you want up until that time. Although this is in Canucks Talk, feel free to make NHL-wide predictions as well.
  4. Yeah, I love the call-back to the old days, but you're right in that they could be a bit scary, especially when guys let their tempers and feelings get out of control and start doing really dangerous stuff. I'm hopeful that our players in 2021 have moved pasted Marty McSorely or Wayne Maki-style stick swinging or even honestly the legendary, yet infamous Gordie Howe elbows.
  5. I would say "I was wrong" is equivalent to "he proved me wrong", but I suppose we're splitting hairs here.
  6. I disagree. I think it's a retrospective comment, as to say "I thought I was right, but it's been proven that in fact, I was wrong". Notice the past tense.
  7. Alas, we haven't used the orange skate since the about 1992 or so. I think the one you're referring to is the gold and red skate, not the gold and orange one.
  8. I think both the first two rounds are against your division still, akin to the 80s if I recall. Technically, I guess it would be divisional semi-finals and divisional finals in the first two rounds, followed by inter-divisional matchups for the final two rounds.
  9. I'm so excited to get a taste of what Original Six NHL felt like with so many games against each team. The rivalries will be incredible.
  10. That's actually a huge blow to the Oilers. Klefbom is arguably their best defenseman.
  11. What a gem of a video. I absolutely love how hardcore of a fan Buble is.
  12. The Patrick brothers were huge for hockey on the Canadian west coast.
  13. Connor is pretty underrated I'd say. He had 73 points in 71 games last year, for 1.03 points-per-game, more than EP's ever had. The two big things Petey has over Connor is perhaps his defensive smarts and the biggest is his playoff performance. Connor in this past year particularly was a disappointment whereas Petey stepped it up even more. I'm of the mind that Petey is actually a bit overrated, but not on that list. I'd have him above Connor for sure.
  14. The sensible choice. I commented during the playoffs--why isn't this guy their captain? He truly seems like the heart and soul of the team.
  15. I simply watch on my PC desktop monitor. If you want to watch through TV, I think @King Heffy's suggestion would be pretty easy.
  16. I firmly believe Hamonic will be signed by a team at a huge discount due to the COVID cap.
  17. The league is very gate-driven, but I'm pretty certain that TV deals still make up over half of the league's revenue.
  18. With an extension to the US TV deal, the NHL can't afford not to have a season. The amount they could lose on the upcoming deal could be monstrous if they cancel this season.
  19. Though I do expect Schmidt-Hughes, I could definitely see an Edler-Hughes pairing actually and wouldn't be surprised by one. Hamonic would also give us a lot of more viable options if that worked out.
  20. You think Hughes goes with Myers? Personally, I thought Myers really dragged Hughes down last year while they were together. I expect a Hughes-Schmidt first pairing with Schmidt-Edler for the PK1 unit.
  21. Not a captain, haha, but for reference, his number would be 2.805, which would put him in between Couture and Giordano.
  22. Blegh, I think I probably just failed that exam.

@Chicken. Yep. The module went great all term long but this exam killed me. Sucks that 100% of the pass/fail is on the exam.

    3. Chicken.

      Chicken.

Well browsing reddit everyone seems to be saying the same thing about the Finance exam, the first case felt OK to answer, manageable, but the second case was just ridiculous. the plant purchase offer I just rambled about some qualitative stuff and said we lose like $3M but save $1M and to accept since the division is about to start losing cash lol . the curve will save us, enjoy the holidays!

Rofl, okay that makes me feel much better, haha. I was pretty much the same. Not too bad on the first case, was a bit tight for time, but the second one was an unmitigated disaster.

  23. I think he'll be bought out next off-season for sure. With the low bonus, we do actually save money, as you pointed out.
  24. Honestly, I'm starting to think these might be my favourite Canuck jersey of all-time. We'll see how it looks on the ice.
