  1. Sounds like Calgary isn't an option on the next round according to Astle EDIT: Spoken too soon. It's either Calgary, Coachella Valley, or Colorado.
  2. Dang is that our 2nd round opponent? That's a tough draw.
  3. And maybe Hoglander's best move ever is giving it 100% even after being demoted.
  4. Hoglander gonna be the AHL playoff MVP if we make it all the way at this rate.
  5. A very interesting point. He may not have a choice. If the KHL isn't an option, I wonder if he more seriously considers the AHL.
  6. The new Raymond, Ballard, and a 1st? This situation reminds me a bit of the Blackhawks in 2010, except that they were able to re-arrange their team to win another two cups with masterful cap management. A key difference is that Chicago's core was very young, whereas Boston's is on the older side. I expect Boston management knows this is likely one final run at the Cup before things start tending downhill (hard to go uphill from where they are now). That said, unless they draft and develop well (akin to Detroit circa 2000-2008 or current Tampa Bay Lightning), next year is probably the beginning of a slow fall down to the bottom before rising back up.
  7. I imagine the functional currency of the NHL is USD in terms of both costs and revenues, so the real value of their profits would probably be negatively affected when compared to currencies of other nations. This would also be true for their costs, including player salaries.
  8. I think he doesn't have another option. He hasn't proven anything at the NHL level yet. His resistance to going to the AHL does make me think he may be destined to be a career KHL guy though.
  9. Was cool to have an ex-Canuck on the coaching staff, but King wasn't working out well enough.
  10. So glad that the city is proving that they will embrace a Vancouver-based AHL team.
  11. Sasson spoke really highly of Hoglander and his work ethic in the post-game interview today. Love his attitude and hope he's rewarded next year.
  12. Call me crazy, but I think it's reasonable that Petey might be better than Draisaitl given his 200 foot game. The catch is that Draisaitl is very big and strong, so his play might complement McDavid's more than Pettersson's would, even though Petey might be a better well-rounded player.
  13. Agreed. I like both Shorty and Batch, but Astle certainly has a gift for doing play by play.
  14. Just starting to listen to the game on SN650. Man, this Abby commentator is amazing. What's his name?
  15. I'd love to see it. He certainly doesn't seem light from when I've seen him in Abby.
  16. I'm definitely all for giving him a shot--he's proven that he's on the cusp of NHL-level. I suppose we'll see how he does in the pre-season next year.
  17. I'm a big Karlsson fan--he's probably the 2nd most exciting offensive forward in Abbotsford outside of Hoglander, but he's not a Boeser replacement unless he explodes into the NHL next year. Boeser produces 50-60 points a season. Karlsson does the same...in the AHL. Let's wait till we see him in the NHL before labeling him as ready to take a top 6 spot.
  18. I feel like Bertuzzi and Bunting are the new Marchand and Kadri. Luckily for us, both are in the east.
  19. I would agree for sure. I think it's not crazy for one player to get crazy hot and make it happen. Matthews and maybe Bedard are the two most likely IMO, unless McDavid indexes even more into goal scoring. If Draisaitl pops off with McDavid maybe he could do it too.
  20. McDavid had 33 goals in 39 games, so in fact he was still 17 goals away from 50 in 39. Quite a gap to make still.
