Yeah, I was kind of stunned Bourne had Gio so high this year.

Kind of reminds me of Petey, but I suppose I'd be wise to temper our expectations compared to Petey somewhat. Petey was a year younger than Hoglander during his year with Vaxjo and he performed even better, well over a point-per-game. That said, so far, this season is a massive improvement for Hoglander, nearly doubling his offensive output from last year. This kid is only about 20 years old (10 days from his 20th birthday) and he's improving at a good rate. I am starting to seriously wonder if he can actually push for an NHL job. Also, although Hoglander is only 5'8", he's actually quite beefy at 183lbs, so I don't think his height will be a huge problem.

Gaudette's been able to improve his game, so hopefully it won't be a problem for Petey. That said, Petey is a much more big name player, so it could create an interesting dynamic having such a close and live connection to a superstar player.

Seems like he's super loyal to Timra, even if it hurts his career. Based on his play this year and last year, it's very likely he's good enough for SHL hockey, but he seems driven to try to bring Timra back up to the SHL rather than sign with an SHL team. He's really not that old. If he went to the SHL and performed well, I could see NHL teams lining up to give him a contract. However, if he doesn't get SHL time in until his late 20s, it won't happen.

I love Petey, but outside of this year's playoffs, there's no way I have him above either Draisaitl or even Tavares.
-
It'd be interesting to see if he could keep it up in the SHL.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Jalen Chatfield
-AJ- replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah, the flat cap seriously crushed our defensive depth with the loss of both Stecher and Fantenberg. I also have Benn at #5 for now. While I think the #6 spot is somewhat open, I pretty strongly suspect Juolevi has a good chance to win it. I would be surprised if Rafferty out-performed him and even more so if Chatfield or Sautner won it. Rathbone, I think, is probably Utica-bound for some pro experience, but he's a darkhorse. -

Yeah, if Tryamkin comes back, I think he'll be fighting for that #6 spot with Juolevi, but we'll see how he is and how willing he even is to be a #7 or #8. That would of course bump Chatfield down to fighting for #9 with Sautner. -

I'd say Chatfield is probably our #8 guy, behind Rafferty as the #7. Sautner might challenge Chatfield for #8, but he's two years older, so his ceiling is likely already reached. -

Benning seems to be this guy's biggest fan. I'm not as high on him, but I do hope he can become an NHL player someday. -
This is pretty much me too, haha. Especially hoping soon though for @smithers joe.

NHL season to start Jan. 13 with 56-game season

56 games. I'm honestly glad it's more than 48, even if just 8 more games. Exciting! -
[Report] Maxim Lapierre announces retirement

Probably one of the most effective trolls out there. I can't imagine how much I would've hated him if he played against Vancouver in the playoffs. -
Marie does a great job too. I'll miss Donnelly, but she's a fantastic replacement.

Not really a fan of the move. I'm not an anti-masker, nor do I agree with the sentiment, but I don't feel like his feelings on such a thing should merit a firing. That's akin to firing someone for being a Republican or Democrat. That said, I understand that Aquaman has the right to do it, and that's just business sometimes. I'll definitely miss Donnelly.

Or rugby. I remember in high school that everyone quickly learned who had the low centres of gravity when we played rugby.

Petey and Horvat got bumps from their playoff runs for sure, though Horvat's always been underrated, so that's nice to see. Petey is actually bordering on overrated for now, but we'll see how he continues. I think it's crazy that Marky didn't make the list at all given he was 4th in Vezina voting.
-
Yeah, barring big changes, I don't see 150 in the reasonably soon future. It is exciting to me that we had Kucherov with 128 points last year and Draisaitl was on pace for 127 points this year before the pause. I honestly had doubts we'd ever seen 120 again, but it seems like now that we're getting a least one player a year capable of that number. McDavid was on pace for 122 points in 2018-19 and 125 points this past year. It's such a shame that injuries and COVID have prevented him from actually getting past the 120-point mark so far.

Loui Eriksson - Benning's 4 choices (Discussion/Poll)
-AJ- replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Honestly, he's probably going to end up as a 13th forward, subbing in for about 50-60 games I'd guess (assuming 82 games). -
It's fun to do these comparisons and the differences in eras are very noteworthy. A player's scoring from the 80s is not at all the same as the scoring in the early 2000s, for instance. That said, the mathematical relation obviously doesn't tell the whole story. There are a lot more factors to consider and it's obviously not as simple as a simple pro-ration. I think it's good to use league-wide goals-per-game as a rough tool, but as a supplementary resource in comparing eras, not as a primary resource. Honestly, the best tool is probably a more exhaustive look at the league over the years. Who was winning awards? Who was getting All-Star Team votes? Who were the top five in scoring for defensemen? These are the kinds of metrics that can also be helpful as well.

I've always considered Lidstrom to be on the overrated side a little. He's obviously incredible, but I don't think his all-around game was as strong as Bourque's and he won precisely 0 Hart trophies in stark contrast to Shore's four. Funny enough, as someone who watched mostly from the early 2000s onward, you'd think I'd be biased in Lidstrom's favour, but I think digging a lot into history has helped to nullify my generational bias somewhat.

Thanks for running! This was fun. A comparison of CDC's list and mine: CDC My List 1 Bobby Orr Bobby Orr 2 Nicklas Lidstrom Eddie Shore 3 Ray Bourque Ray Bourque 4 Doug Harvey Nicklas Lidstrom 5 Paul Coffey Doug Harvey 6 Denis Potvin Denis Potvin 7 Larry Robinson Red Kelly 8 Eddie Shore Larry Robinson 9 Scott Niedermayer Al MacInnis 10 Al MacInnis Paul Coffey My honourable mentions: Pierre Pilote and Chris Chelios All in all, fairly close to my list in a sense. The order was shifted around a fair bit, but only one player on my top 10 didn't get in (Red Kelly). Niedermayer was a big difference from mine, as I had him down at 17th. I know Brad Park had a lot of steam in that last one as well, he was 13th for me. I was nominating Hedman a lot during the list creation--I had him at 18th. The first guy not best known for his NHL game was Fetisov who was 20th for me.
-
Looks like I will continue to be an apologist for the old guys...voting for Red Kelly. Kelly's accolades: Winner of the 1st ever Norris 2nd in Norris voting twice 3rd in Norris voting once 1st Team All-Star twice prior to the existence of the Norris 2nd Team All-Star twice prior to the existence of the Norris 2nd in Hart voting once 3rd in Hart voting once All of these were as a defenseman with the Red Wings before he moved to forward with the Leafs. MacInnins isn't a bad vote either, he would be my choice after Kelly. Continuing to nominate Victor Hedman.

Far as I recall, Daniel has always been listed at 6'1" and Henrik has always been listed at 6'2". Oddly, I think Daniel was often a pound or two heavier. All that said, Petey plays a bit more of a physical game too, so there's merit in him bulking up a bit.
-
Honestly, I don't expect Petey to ever get to more than 190lbs at most. I think he'll be like Patty Kane in that he'll always remain quite light for his height (Kane is also relatively short, to be fair). As another comparison, Henrik was almost the same height as Pettersson and he ended his career around 180lbs or so I believe.
