  1. Yeah, Highway 1 in Abby can get pretty bad during rush hour, but I find that the city roads are a little more bearable. Basically gets worse the further west you go. I also have a soft spot for Abbotsford, having been born and raised there.
  2. I'm living in Langley atm, but I honestly preferred Abbotsford. Langley is nice, but the traffic gets a bit much in rush hour, especially on the freeway. It's a bit more modern and city-like though, which also comes with earlier tech advancements.
  3. I honestly completely forgot about that. It would be neat if Green also worked with some of the centres to pass down his faceoff prowess.
  4. Lots of folks well into their 50s and beyond on the forums. It's great to have a nice diversity in age for conversations like these.
  5. So would you then rate today's heroes as greater than the ones of the the 60s and 70s like Orr and Potvin? Are Keith, Karlsson, and Hedman greater defensemen than those? If you're going to talk about the 30s in that way, you can't simply ignore the drastic differences between the 60s and 70s and modern hockey. The game has grown insanely since then. Just look at the dramatic difference in salaries for all involved in NHL hockey.
  6. By that logic, we should punish guys like Harvey, Potvin, and Orr too. There are far more people playing the game in 2020 than back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I think it's far more reasonable to consider how good a player was relative to his competition at the time.
  7. One of the things about these lists is I often end up getting stuck voting for a guy high up on my list and miss arguing for others I liked. Potvin is a good example, as I think he might sometimes be underrated, but I can't vote for him over Shore, so I never get a chance to vote for Potvin and defend him (assuming he wins this round).
  8. Voting for Eddie Shore, nominating Victor Hedman.
  9. Yeah, Clapper is up there as one of the best pre-Original six players for sure. First player to play 20 seasons in the NHL I believe as well.
  10. I feel like it has to be Shore next. Bobby Orr won three Hart trophies. Shore won four. But he's from the late 20s and 30s, so it's not surprising that no one knows him. Going recent here with a nomination for Victor Hedman. Already won both a Norris and a Smythe and has also been third place in Norris voting three times as well. He's not even 30 years old yet.
  11. Sacrilege! But honestly, he does need to be considered fairly soon.
  12. Also, @IBatch, have you decided how long the series will go for? I'm making a list of my top defensemen now and I'm not sure how long I should make it.
  13. Apologies. I thought it was Chara that got in. I'll nominate Red Kelly.
  14. Nominating Pilote again. Voting for Doug Harvey, the seven-time Norris winner. EDIT: Nominating Red Kelly instead, since Pilote is already a voting option. Upon considering more data, I've also decided to change my vote to Shore.
  15. Ah yes, I do have Coffey quite high on my list as well. He gets a lot of flack because during his time in Edmonton, he was sometimes more of a fourth forward than a defenseman, but in his later years, he had a more balanced game while retaining much of his offensive level.
  16. I'm not sure how my post relates to Coffey. He's already on the list as a voting option.
  17. Blegh, having abdominal pain and horrible insomnia. All just in time for the home stretch of my online course and exam coming up in 3 weeks. Not anxiety-inducing at all.

Could BE anxiety...funny how absolutely debilitating it can be at times if we're subconsciously worrying about something.

The blue screen light is supposed to interfere with sleep.  I rarely sleep a full night, ever and do exactly what Rubik does at times.  Last night I fell asleep during Colbert and woke up at 4:15 (that's a usual for me).  Couldn't sleep so turned on Just For Laughs (watched it at first then turned the volume way down)...then dozed off before it ended at 5.

I am struggling over having to work in a school and, with what's happening with Dad, have a whole lot on my plate.  I'm wrestling with it all. So I totally get the "have stuff to do" and why this always happens then...instead of when there's nothing going on and it doesn't matter!  It's daunting when you "have" to rest and focus and something gets in the way of that.  Especially when we can't pinpoint it.

I've recently done a lot of work on anxiety (10 weeks+).  A lot of mindfulness, meditation and re-scripting thoughts.  It's quite helpful if I start to spiral in the wee hours...some good techniques are out there.  My favourite is the deep breath in, imagine it "rolling over" at the top (instead of the usual "hold", which was a struggle) and then exhale.  Focus on it and it's super relaxing and smooth.  Even JUST trying to focus on a new technique is enough to distract us and relax us.  I take my b/p and pulse at home and it makes a HUGE difference in before and after readings.

Good luck to you...you'll be fine no matter what happens!  Just remember that nothing is TOO big a worry on the grand scale of it all - COVID certainly puts that into perspective.  Take care of yourself.  Learn to drink tea (if you don't)...can be very soothing.  But mostly just stay in the moment and focus on something that relaxes you.  This'll all be past you in no time, keep that in mind.

Pain is a bit better and I got more sleep last night, thanks for the comments and thoughts everyone <3.

  18. A very fair assessment, though I would also point out that Harvey was excellent, even into his later years (much like Lidstrom), and I believe that Gadsby and Horton are probably both underrated. It wasn't really a time of exciting offensive defensemen, so it's sensible that none of the guys in that era put up inspiring numbers. I believe we'd be saying the same thing of Harvey's Norris wins if he didn't win so many of them. Harvey won a few times against Kelly, but otherwise he faced similar competition to Pilote, beating out guys like Allan Stanley, Marcel Pronovost, and the same Bill Gadsby you mentioned, none of whom are considered dominant names. Then again, maybe you'd put Harvey much lower than I would for the same reason. I'd say the era and style of hockey in the 50s and 60s made for a very unglamorous set of top tier defenders who focused much more on being physical stay-at-home defenders.
  19. Voting for Harvey, nominating Pierre Pilote, winner of three Norris trophies and runner up three times as well. I doubt many other players not on the list yet can say they've been 2nd or better in Norris voting six times.

You can find Gretzky in almost every All-Star game, but Garrett? Now that's something interesting.
  21. Frankly, after doing so many lists over the years, I've come to accept the little things people can agree on.
  22. Of your implied top 7, my list has six of the same names. Looks like we're on the same page.

Pretty sure you have that backwards.
  24. I'm not denying Demko stole those games, because he did, but my point is that he was the difference maker. I think with numbers, so let me try to explain it this way. Let's assign number values to forwards, defense, and goaltending for each team over the series. As an example, I'd see it as something like this: Canucks: Forwards: 4 Defense: 4 Goaltending: 15 Total: 23 Golden Knights: Forwards: 8 Defense: 8 Goaltending: 8 Total: 24 I think Demko carried this team, so much even, that he made the series a close one. Just because the team was lopsided in favour of goaltending, it doesn't mean that the series wasn't close. It was in fact Demko alone who made the series close. You could definitely argue that this kind of play isn't sustainable, but that's an entirely different argument about sustainability of play into the future as opposed to the assessment of a series already happened. I think to say the series wasn't close is to discredit what Demko did, and that was take a team's forwards and defensemen that had no business being in a close series, and making it close.
