  2. I thought it was expensive at first, but I didn't realize how much better he's gotten. Probably a fair deal. He just turned 25 a few days ago, so I actually think this takes him right up to UFA year 1.

    SEDIN WEEK

I was not ready for the feels train on that one.
  4. Of course limited to ones that happened while I've been a fan HM: Mitchell hit on Toews 5. Luongo's save on Ben Eager in 2009 playoffs 4. Burrows' first game back in Vancouver--I was in attendance 3. The Sedins' last home game against Arizona 2. Juice scoring the Game 5 OT winner in the WCF 1. Burrows slaying the Dragon
  5. Sad. It would have been a gorgeous hit if he hadn't left his feet early. It's always disappointing when a hit is so close to being a great example of a clean hard hit and they get one thing brutally wrong. I didn't watch the game--was there a penalty on the play? I feel like this would be sufficiently punished with a 5-minute major at most.
  6. With what cap space? I love Simmonds, but I'd rather just not.
  7. Campbell is generally a great backup goalie. Not as good this year, but then, all of LA sucks right now. This could turn out to be a huge steal for the Leafs if Campbell can return to his form prior to this year.
  8. On pace to smash his career bests. His best points-per-game in his career is 0.29 and he's at 0.36 so far. His career high in points in 20 points in 70 games, which pro-rates to 23 points. His current pace of 19 points in 53 games pro-rates to 29 points. Can you imagine if Chris Tanev, the defensive mastermind, scored 30 points?
  9. Edler with the mindset of Bulldog.
  10. We had so much going against us in this game: - Road game - Afternoon game - Afternoon game in EST, so more like a morning game for our boys - Carolina badly needs a win - Carolina is a good team - 2nd half of back-to-back The fact that we still made it extremely close is very very encouraging. This team continues to surprise me.
  11. They don't work in both the UK and US versions of date records. This one does.
  12. I have heard from various others who've looked at the numbers that giveaways are a notoriously inaccurate stat. For whatever reason though, takeaways are considered far more reliable.
  13. Likely the case of a few really bad ones sticking out in his mind and skewing his perspective more than the actual genuine quantity of giveaways.
  14. The time when these netminders also signed their deals is relevant. Both Gibson's and Hellebuyck's were in 2018, but some others were much older. Holtby's was signed in 2015, Schneider's in 2014, Crawford's in 2013, and Quick's way back in 2012. For reference, when Quick signed his deal in 2012, the 2012-13 cap was announced at $60 million. The cap now is $81.5 million. This means that Quick's $5.8M took up 9.66% of the cap back in 2012. In 2019-20 numbers, that same percentage would would be $7.87M per year. Salary inflation is a very real I think and it's important to take into account when finding comparables. All that said, I don't see Marky getting much above $6M at most. He's been amazing, but goaltenders have been known to fluctuate quite a bit.
  15. Also far bigger and tougher too.
  16. As a big fan of hockey history, I'm always probably slower to accept that modern players are among the all-time greats...but it's next to impossible to make a case that Ovie isn't the best goal scorer in NHL history already, even if he doesn't pass 894 goals. Amazing to witness such a legend in the making.
  17. Yeah, San Jose is a nightmare. They have a team designed to go all in and win now and they're doing the exact opposite. Kind of feels like they have to just suffer for another few years before even starting the rebuild. They've got a long road ahead of them.
  18. With two points tonight, Hughes is at 36 points on the season, which gives him the most points of any Canucks defenseman since 2011-12 (though Edler had 34 in just 56 games last year). In 2011-12, however, we had three defensemen with more than 36 points (Hamhuis, 37 points; Bieksa, 44 points; Edler, 49 points).
  19. The "Dim Jim" comment was more directed to those who still currently refer to him by the derogatory moniker (so presumably, not you). I think most reasonable fans have at least come accept Benning as okay, if not better than average.
  20. Opinions on Tkachuk's fight with Kassian?

I don't like Tkachuk, but I respect him for taking the fight this time (even though he was thrashed). Better late than never. I get the feeling like Kassian respected it too and agreed that they're even up now and their feud is over (for now).

oh! I thought it was Giordano  doesn't matter, I hate all of them.

    3. King Heffy

      King Heffy

Should have gotten an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for diving.  What a coward

    4. Shift-4

      Shift-4

MT19 did the right thing but lost the fight.
Next game I expect him to be a little $&!# again  lol

  21. I think #6/7 is on the high end. A more realistic evaluation probably places him around 8/9 imo, which means he's in Utica. Still might be worth a contract though.
  22. I have no problem with giving Tryamkin a chance--in fact, I'd like him to be given a chance. Where my concerns arrive are if we pay him like a top 4 defender or expect him to fill a regular role. If we sign him for money and expectations befitting reality (imo a #6/7 defenseman at the very best), then I have no problem with it.
