  1. I'm not sure cap hits are calculated as partial hits midway though the year unless a free agent is signing a new deal (like Nylander and Sundin). Wouldn't we then see contenders buy hugely expensive stars for the final quarter of the season then? I've never heard of anyone using this partial cap situation to their advantage before, so I'm skeptical of it. Do you have past evidence or a link to the CBA point that shows it?
  2. Fair enough, but I feel my offer to substantially more than the OPs proposal. Lind and Virtanen aren't exactly in our junk drawer. Throw in a high pick like a 1st and I'm not sure you're too far off in value.
  3. I think you'll find that as ATOI goes down points per minute will overinflate. This is likely because players who play less minutes most often play against weaker competition. In addition, because they play fewer minutes, they're also fresher when they do play, so it's easier for them to play well. Increase Jake's minutes and I nearly promise you his points per minute goes down.
  4. Intangibles. Horvat is our team leader and inspires our guys.
  5. Horvat is more valuable than Domi, imo, albeit only slightly. Lind looks very good in Utica this year and I think is likely to end up as a good 2nd/3rd line player. Virtanen is already a good and young 2nd line player with great physicality to boot. I debated between a 2nd and 1st rounder, but either way, those are fairly high picks. I don't feel that value is far off and it's much closer than the OPs proposal.
  6. I think you'd be looking at something like Virtanen, Lind, and a 2nd...at which point I'm not sure it's worth it.
  7. The timing could be right, but I suspect he won't come cheap. Even though he hasn't put it all together yet, he's still a good 45-50 point guy who's good for 20 goals. Unless your name is Sven Baertschi, that's usually worth a fair bit.
  8. Because many centres play wing, you'll find that NHL forwards are not equally distributed among all three forward positions. I find a more accurate measure of 1st liner (as per offensive numbers) would be to look at the top 93 forwards. I also think points-per-game is a better metric than overall points, since missed games can unfairly hurt a player, though of course you have to set a reasonable minimum games, lest you have players with 1 or 2 games at the top of the list. Setting the minimum games at 23 games, Jake's points-per-game of 0.57 sits him at about 140th among all forwards, which would place him at right about dead average for a 2nd line forward, which I think is a more realistic representation of his offense, but still very positive.
  9. Looked at my bank account and was pleasantly surprised, so I decided to take a look at housing prices to see if I could actually consider buying.

Suffice it to say I won't be any time soon.

Isnt it funny..The places where lots of work and oppurtunity is, you cant afford housing. Where housing is affordable theres little work and opportunity

  10. Fat is definitely the wrong word, but there's no doubt that body fat percentage was too high for an NHL player. NHL standards are far higher than the standards for your average person and it's not fair to compare the two. Regardless, it's in the past and Jake has matured and improved. As can be seen by 5th line's post, even his harshest critics are admitting he's playing well (even if only seemingly reluctantly).
  11. I don't think we should be surprised if Boeser's numbers do drop if he plays with the third line of Gaudette and Roussel. It doesn't necessarily mean he was a passenger on the 1st line though. The twins saw their numbers drop when Megna was played on their line--worse line mates mean worse production no matter who you are.
  12. Ferland sits IMO. Leivo is a tougher one. He was producing at a borderline 2nd line rate while playing. Might be the case that he sits out but other players have a very short leash. Leivo is hardly a downgrade on any of our middle six players, so if any of them let off the gas, he'll be right there to step in for them.
  13. I think the expectation for most people going into this season was that the Canucks would challenge for a playoff spot. Pundits were probably split 50/50 on whether or not we'd actually make it. If you think Green is a positively bad coach, then I'd think you would predict that with Green (a bad coach), we would perform worse than expected and miss the playoffs. I challenge you to re-do your payouts and include a payout if we even just make the playoffs under Green, if you're truly so convinced he's a problem.
  14. I'll choose to focus on this part of your post. Cheers EDIT: I decided to fact check you on this quote, particularly the part about assists: As per Natural Stat Trick, Virtanen has 14 assists on the year, and 8 of them have been primary, for a rate of 57.1% of his assists being primary. The average for all Canuck forwards this year is 54%, so he's actually getting right about the average ratio of primary to secondary assists (assuming the Canucks are an average sample). EDIT 2: Because I realized you might not like just the Canucks as a sample, I took the entire NHL and the average percentage of assists as primary is 59.4%, which is a bit higher than the Canucks and about 2.3% higher than Virtanen. You may feel differently, but I don't feel 2.3% is a significant enough number to indict Virtanen for picking up easy points. Did you see his Hank-like saucer to Miller tonight?
  15. Anyone know how the roads are in Langley? I'm not sure how much it snowed last night, but my side streets were already horrible.

High way was okay.  Getting to the highway was fine, the snow from last night hadn't been cleared but it wasn't an issue.  I'm sure, by now, most of the major roads are fine.

It's just the side roads suck right now.

  16. Interesting! A simple fix though would be to penalize freezing the puck in the opposing offensive zone.
  17. If he's actually dumb enough to throw a McSorely in someone's face, especially after those comments, he'll be looking at probably 10 games minimum.
  18. I find that people forget how good Sutter is while he's out. He's a very smart player and I firmly believe his offensive skills are vastly underrated. He won't put up 50 points, but watch his game closely and you can see how he was a 21-goal scorer twice. I another universe where Sutter was played in an offensive role, I think he could comfortably put up 40-50 points on our second line.
  19. Personally, I think the odds of having GD being the tie-breaker are very minimal. I'm not sure exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's quite far on the tie-breaker priority. I'd take the 5% chance to tie the game. Goal differential isn't likely to matter. One for me is the "Patrick Roy" rule where goalies can't go past centre ice (I think it might've been Plante or Hall that instigated it way back when actually). Honestly, that seems dumb to me--if a goalie really wants to go past centre ice, why not let him?
  20. I'm torn on whether or not to keep Tanev after this year, but I don't think the Gudbranson situation is a fair comparison. Guddy had negative value and was struggling even on our bottom pairing. Tanev is an essential part of our top 4 and definitely still has positive value, though it's diminished due to his pending UFA status.
  21. Rangers laugh and hang up the phone.
