  1. Apparently, Petey is the only guy who's both top 5 in crossbars hit and top 10 in posts hit this year. In total, he's hit 11 posts. Imagine if even five of those went in and Petey had 26 goals. We'd be looking at a guy on pace for a good 40 or so goals.
  2. Awesome for Motte to share his story about depression. I love the Hockey Talks movement and I'm so proud that Vancouver is where it all started in memory of Ryp. In the hockey culture most of all, it must be so hard to come out to people about that sort of thing, so it's great that we have this movement and it's great to hear guys like Motte share their stories.
  3. I'd be over the moon if we hired him as an assistant, but I'm sure he gets hired quickly as a head coach by someone eventually.
  4. Snow day for work! Hooray!

Even better since I'm on salary.

      Amen to that brother!

  5. To be fair, I don't think many expected offense out of Benn. What he did in Montreal was a career year and it's not surprising he hasn't replicated it. He's been more of a disappointment in other ways, really. Myers has definitely been a disappointment, especially offensively. He's picked it up a bit in the last 20 games or so, but he's still not up to the pace I'd want from him. I think he should ideally putting up points at around at least a 30-point pace. EDIT: Upon further review, he's picked it up more than I realized. In October and November, he had 4 points in 27 games. His last 19 games (December until now) have produced 11 points in 19 games, which is actually half decent. Hopefully he keeps that up.
  6. I already mentioned your fallacious way of representing Loui's production. He hasn't been on the second line all year and don't pretend he has. I'm not going to sit here and argue that he's definitely the best option for our second line, because I'm not convinced of that. It's very possible that Leivo or Virtanen could be better--that said, I don't think there's a good case that he's a problem on that line either. I think a lot of people are blinded by the past and can't evaluate without Loui's bad play from other years obscuring their judgement of his current play.
  7. From 2008 to 2012, Eriksson scored 118 goals in 325 games. That's 0.363 goals-per-game, which equals an average of 29.77 goals in 82 games. So you're right, he wasn't a consistent 30-goal scorer. He was a consistent 29.77-goal scorer.
  8. I think that's too much money, and combined with the term, it could hurt in later years. He's a good 1st line player, just not quite worth that imo. Backstrom is a Caps legend though, so it's good to see him remain with them.
  9. So your plan is to be a bottom feeder for years until magically becoming dominant instantly when the time is right with no growing pains? That's an unrealistic pipe dream.
  10. IMO, trading Tanev and only getting as much as Ceci in return means kissing our playoff hopes goodbye. We're not in a position to be giving up good roster players for draft picks--we're not a trash team anymore and should be keeping these guys in most scenarios to push for the playoffs.
  11. Bo has 7 points in his last 5 games. That's far above his last 5 years. He's playing the best he's ever played in his career right now and his one of his wingers happens to be Loui Eriksson. At the very least, it's clear Eriksson isn't dragging Bo or that line down.
  12. Kind of wishing my work had snow days like school used to.

Because we have hills and our streets even have  the occasional curve/turn in them....

Well, true, not a lot of crazy hills in Winnipeg, like say in Burnaby. I was kind of joking because as a kid we had to walk to school in -25 weather, and unless there was a real storm, we never got a snow day. I find it a little funny. Heck, as a small kid I remember putting my skates on at home, and skating to the community centre to play hockey on the outdoor rinks. Then I'd skate home lol Streets were icy eh?

  13. I think he's on his later legs and costs $4M this year and one more. I think his value is probably minimal as it stands right now.
  14. A third line with a centre that has 7 points in his last 5 games, maybe.
  15. Blue and Green. Read into that what you will.
  16. I think the Selke should have to do with a lot more than points and +/-. I would say that about 65 points should be enough to qualify and from there, while +/- is a factor, you'd also want to include factors such as faceoff %, possession metrics (CORSI/Fenwick), OZ%, blocked shots, takeaways/giveaways, PK time, and PK effectiveness.
  17. I agree. The score and shot clock looks like we dominated, but it really does feel like the Wild were the better team except for a few small instances where we scored. Markstrom saved our bacon.
  18. The game against Winnipeg will be monumentally important. They are the team right below the playoff line trying to claw their way back in. Beating them pushes them further down and gives us more breathing room for a playoff spot. I'm so excited that I'm seriously talking about defending our playoff position in mid-January.
  19. A narrow way of viewing his production. You're right in that Eriksson has only 6 points in 26 games (now 27 games), but what you're missing is that he has 5 of those 6 points in just his last 8 games. The Eriksson of October and November isn't the same as the Eriksson of late December to now.
  20. Worth noting that Makar has 24 in 37 games and is on pace to do it in 46 games, so if he keeps up his pace, he'll beat Hughes . Almost feels a bit like Crosby and Ovechkin of 2005-06 (not quite) with two insane offensive defensemen having unbelievable rookie years in the same season.
  21. Hilariously, despite being on the playoff line, if you look by point percentage, both Vancouver and the Jets are actually 1st in the Pacific.

    1. Undrafted

Except the Jets aren't in the Pacific :P

  22. Ehh....he's got good face-offs, but on other stats there are better players. He doesn't play on the PK that much and the stats show that when he does, he's not actually that great. He does have some pretty impressive possesion metrics according to NHL.com though based on his OZ%. Still, I don't think he has enough going for him to seriously challenge for the Selke.
  23. I was "ajhockey" for nearly 7 years until I decided to simplify it. I wanted "AJ", but names have to be at least three characters, hence the dashes on either side of the name (I took inspiration from @-Vintage Canuck- on that one). I also remember that way back in the day when there was a phase where everyone and their moms were changing their names to different fruits, I almost joined in, but held off, for which I'm still grateful.
  24. Hooray! Three representatives! The future is very bright folks!
