  1. The Russians can't handle their emotions and are losing all their chances as a result.
  2. Eriksson's assist tonight actually looked crazy nice. Through the legs deflection? He must be getting some confidence to try that.
  3. Marchand's also one slew foot away from a 20-game suspension. His offense is incredibly good, but I don't think the level of his agitation is worth the suspensions and how much he also distracts his own team. It's clear that sometimes even his teammates get frustrated with his antics.
  4. I love that Hoglander is willing to get physical, but the way he drove his elbow up on that his is not good at all. I'd say that hit is suspendable, even by NHL standards. So long as he learns from this to steer away from the head, he'll be fine.
  5. I'm pretty sure the NHL rule book says nothing whatsoever about absolving a hitter of guilt if a player has his head down or simply has puts himself in that position. In fact, they regularly say in these videos that the onus is always on the hitter to let off if they're in a vulnerable position. Not necessarily saying that's the right way to do it, but that's the way the NHL has always done it.
  6. The thing I think Virtanen has improved on most is actually his hockey IQ. It seems to me his decision-making is much improved, so his passes are much more well-advised and he makes his decisions quicker too. Pretty incredible considering most people say that's one thing you can't teach. Maybe he just learned it over the recent years?
  7. My top three (definitely influenced somewhat by nostalgia) are: 1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 2. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess 3. Donkey Kong 64
  8. It'd be amazing and I'd be thrilled if it happens. I suppose because the NHLPA is so pissy about it, it'd be smarter not to say anything and just take less money and let people create whatever narratives they will out of that.
  9. Pearson for sure. Miller isn't even close to unsung. I'm constantly hearing and reading from posters that he's our MVP. Pearson's on pace for 60 points this year, yet there's still the notion that Horvat doesn't have any top six wingers to play with.
  10. It was really interesting listening to Kes and Juice talk on their podcast about how much pressure there is from agents and especially the NHLPA not to take discounts. Apparently one of them (Kesler maybe?) mentioned a home town discount in an interview once and got a call from the NHLPA saying not to talk about that to the media. Explains why discounts are more rare than you'd think they'd be.
  11. On pace for exactly 30 goals and 50 assists this year, absolutely decimating his previous bests. Of course, the numbers will look very good after a 4-point game, but the point stands that Miller is better than he's ever been before.
  12. Edler has been lights out since his return. In 4 games, he has 5 assists and is +9. Tonight, with 2 assists he also tied Dennis Kearns' 290 assist record.
  13. Marky bailed the boys out vs the Kings and the boys bailed Marky out on this one. Love this team.
  14. I've been thinking about this too. It really depends on how he finishes. I do think he'll be going for a full deal and not a bridge. If he does score 47 points like he's projected to, I'm guessing he gets a 2-4 year deal at probably $3.5M to $4.5M depending on length--the longer, the more expensive. That said, if he slows down (as most players do as the season lags on) and drops to maybe 35 or 40 points, we're probably looking more at $2.5-$3.5M.
  15. Bullcrap. Keep at it Torts. I imagine Columbus will pay it for him.
  16. If it was in Canada, would it be called "Minnipop"?
  17. Rafferty might be able to play some bottom pairing minutes, but there's no way he can fill Tanev's minutes as soon as next year. On top of that, Rafferty is an offensive guy and fills an entirely different role than Tanev. Trading Tanev could end up being a good decision, but definitely leaves a big gap on our back end that we'd be naive to think can easily be filled by a young fringe NHL defenseman.
  18. Guddy was given tons of responsibility in big games, but that's six games, not 100. I actually had more of an issue that we also gave up a 2nd and a 4th rounder to boot. Gudbranson was a young defenseman who was a high draft pick and although his career had started off slowly, it did look like he might be finally taking another step, though that was only based on those six games. In the 2015-16 regular season, he averaged just over 20 minutes a game, which was in stark contrast to the nearly 27 minutes he averaged in the playoffs. EDIT: I've done some more research and It's worth noting that OT games also majorly influence the heavy amounts of time played. Game 3 went to 1st OT and both of games 5 and 6 went to 2OT. His minutes in relation to his fellow Panthers d-men seems to fluctuate: Game 1: 3rd Game 2: 1st Game 3: 4th Game 4: 3rd Game 5: 1st Game 6: 1st The point still stands that he was relied on heavily, mostly in defensive situations, as can be insinuated by his offensive zone start % in those games. All in all, it really seems like Benning took a big gamble on six strong important games from Guddy that were in contrast to his regular season history. Unfortunately, we never got to see Gudbranson in the playoffs with the Canucks, so maybe he would've hit another level again, but we'll never know. In some ways, I can see why Benning was high of Gudbranson: - Former 3rd overall pick - Still relatively young at 24 - Coming off a strong 6 playoff games that could imply an impending breakout season - The right age for a player to hit their peak Still, I feel that Benning probably put too much stock into the 6 games and got burned badly for it. Fortunately, he's made up for it with numerous other great trades, including the acquisition of Pearson for Gudbranson, which is looking like highway robbery at this point.
  19. The only real impact fans have is actually the biggest one--cut off revenue sources. Regardless, I personally like the idea of a 3-point system that rewards finishing games in OT or even in regulation. An argument against it I've heard is that it messes up the records, but we've already done that by adding the overtimes in the early 80s, the loser point in around 2000 and shootout in 2005. I didn't realize how much these changes affected teams point totals until I took an in-depth look at Tampa's season last year in comparison to other great teams and realized how many extra points they were getting. Even the wins totals are more inflated these days than back in the old days.
  20. Technically the Atlantic is weaker by average points, but they're heavily dragged down by the Red Wings. I'd say the Pacific is the weakest, given that the Atlantic has at least one really dominant team in the Bruins. The Atlantic has at least one better team in each position except 8th.
  21. A knockdown argument if I've ever seen one.
  22. Two more assists and Edler will tie Dennis Kearns in all-time assists with 290. Eddie keeps slowly but surely knocking down all the defensemen records. He's close to Salo for PPGs as well.
  23. Take Miller away from Petey and Boes and I bet you see the same thing. Add or remove any guy from the 1st line that's far better than the rest of the team and you'll see dramatic changes. I'm honestly not seeing it. The stats don't back it up, but all his critics say it's not a stats thing, it's an eye test thing. I'm watching the games and I don't see a Boeser that's playing poorly at all (aside from worse shooting, which I've mentioned). I suppose it has to be an agree to disagree thing since it's much much harder to get hard evidence once you choose to discredit statistics and rely solely on the eye test. Still, I'll give you and others props for at least supporting Boeser even though you don't feel he's playing well.
