  1. It's also interesting to see someone still ranking him as our number one guy. After his injury times last year and Edler's resurgence, a lot of people have moved to calling Edler our #1 guy again. I'm on the fence about it. As much as I love Tanev and think he could thrive as a #2 guy, in most situations, he's probably more of a #3 guy. That said, I could see a situation similar to Methot-Karlsson working out for Tanev on a top pairing somewhere.
  2. Officially moving out of the house and on my own in a few weeks! It's exciting, but also a bit scary.

When I moved out for the first time it didn't hit me till bed time.  I wouldn't describe it as fear, but it was surreal nonetheless.

Are you living with anyone else?  That can help with feeling bored, human contact is nice.  Good luck and enjoy it!

      Congrats on the move out!

Thanks everyone! I'll be living on my own in Langley, about a 30 minute drive from home, so not too far away. Work will be much closer, which will be super nice.

    Alex Biega | #55 | D

I'm not a fan of having the A on a guy who doesn't play consistently enough to hold down a full-time spot. Biega plays his heart out for five games and then goes cold until he's scratched, after which he'll play his heart out again. He had his moments, but he's certainly not hot every game. But more to your point, I think Biega is best suited to be one of those "unofficial" leaders of the team. He's definitely experienced enough at this point to be a role model for some of our kids.
  4. If they're gonna do it, I'd guess that they'll do it for the season opener, not in the dry and boring months of August.
  5. Ahhh, the days of old Jake. I wonder what he'd look like now.
  6. Guddy brings something valuable to this team that we have little of on the blue line, but I do think he needs to add more to stay on this team long-term (in the years down the road. I think he very likely has a spot already coming out of camp this year). In an odd way, Brendan Gaunce is a similar case. The defense Gaunce provides is wonderful, but he has so far proven too one-dimensional to last on any team other than a bottom feeder. If the Canucks have any noteworthy improvement in their bottom six this year, Gaunce is likely an odd man out. Gudbranson is a similar case to me. The physical side he provides is very valuable, but he needs to add to that to remain on the team long-term. Whether it's offense (very unlikely) or defense (more likely) he needs to be more than just a physical presence in my opinion.
  7. I think the only reason is that he's probably our best option at 2nd line centre if Pettersson isn't ready. Still, it would really hurt to take him away from what he did so well last year. I think Pettersson will be given a long and hard look in the top 6.
  8. Can we just fast forward a month? Can't wait til the Young Stars tourney and pre-season.

  9. I could definitely see it being a magical combination. Jake is fast and strong and though his hands aren't amazing (we'll see how this summer helps), his game sense is pretty decent I think. He could excel with a guy like Pettersson feeding him.
  10. More tanky than Kess IMO. Kesler was leaner and Bo is more beastly. Still...those abs are remarkably well-defined for a 220-pound man. We have a good one on our hands boys.
  11. Agree with those projections as a high end for that line. There's also the potential that Pettersson replaces Baertschi as a winger, which could be even better or a flop.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

Agree with others here that Gaunce will not last in the NHL without diversifying his game a bit. It's common for bottom six forwards to be better at defense or physical play than anything else, but Gaunce takes that to the extreme. He's very very good at defense, average when it comes to physical play and downright terrible offensively. He was good enough to play for the Canucks over the last couple of years, but with prospects and free agent signings, he'll need to add more to his game to remain in the NHL.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

He's too old to be a rookie anymore, but he's still 27 years old, so Anaheim could get some good hockey out of him if he still has some game in him.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

I hear that Quinn Hughes kid might be good...
  15. Yeah that was back in the days when we had less organization regarding these sorts of player threads.
  16. A video showing all of Reid Boucher's record-setting 28 goals for the Comets this past year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIujGrIy2CA&ab_channel=UticaComets
  17. One of those nights I guess. Went to bed at midnight and no sleep so far over 5 hours into the night. Just giving up at this point with less than two hours before my alarm. Might be an interesting day at work...

Same here, I have insomnia so I often struggle to sleep. I envy those who can just nap or fall asleep whenever.

  18. Bo is a lot less controversial than JV, haha. If Bo scores only 40 points next year, you'll see this page get a lot more activity.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

Great research here. I agree completely. After the rookie season of Hutton, I projected him to eventually become a 35-40 point defenseman, but that obviously didn't work out. With Stecher I was more reserved in my hopes, thanks to Hutton the previous year. Still, if both are no more than 20-point defensemen, the offense from our d-corp will continue to be pathetic (unless both are only in the bottom six). Furthermore, I've noticed a dramatic increase in scoring from defensemen overall in the NHL in the last five years or so, to the point where 40+ point defensemen are almost commonplace these days. Unfortunately, we in Vancouver seem to have not been part of this.
  20. Demko has a real shot at stealing the backup role from Nilsson this year. I too am hoping to see it happen.
  21. Enjoy it while it lasts, Chris.
  22. I'm pretty sure McDavid had been out for a very long time at that point in the overtime whereas Virtanen was much fresher. Like I said, Virtanen is exciting to watch and I think he could sometimes beat McDavid in a foot race, but I wouldn't be confident to say that he'd beat him every time.
  23. Have to agree. While I love watching the clip, it's pretty hard to say that it was a fair race in that sense. Jake's still a pretty exciting guy to watch though.
  24. I loved the guy so much while he was here. Hope he succeeds and maybe makes his way back to the NHL, but at his age, it's likely that he's done.
