  1. I would agree; the goal should be to make the playoffs every year, but I think it's fine for expectations to be less. Horvat seems to have that exact mindset, which I love. I think he'll go out of his way to be a leader for the new young(er) kids, whether or not he's captain this year.
  2. Honestly, it's such a relief to have a player on the team admit that it could be a couple of years before success comes. He admits that it'll be tough to make it, but that there's still a shot in the dark. I honestly got tired of "we're making the playoffs" every season even when it was clear we weren't going to. Bo has a great head on his shoulders. I want him as captain this year for sure, but even if he isn't he darn well better be pretty soon after that.
  3. Granlund's spot on this team is really in flux to me. He doesn't have any solid role anywhere, but at the same time, I'm not willing to write him off as a 13th forward just yet. He's one-year removed from being a 20-goal kind of guy and still provides decent defense. He's under a lot of pressure to out-perform guys like Schaller and Roussel this year, so hopefully it brings out the best in him.
  4. It seems like the pendulum is just swinging more and more wildly, creating more and more extreme ends, but maybe it's just the media blowing it up to be bigger than it is. I align pretty well with conservative views, but if I label myself as a conservative, I risk also being slotted into the generalized "Trump-loving, homophobic racist" group, hence why I hesitate to label myself really clearly when asked. I'm pretty sure this is the case with most people and there's a lot more complexity to their beliefs than we might be led to believe on both sides. I suspect we just see the dramatic vocal extremists on both sides and others that are more centrist or nuanced in their positions don't get the limelight because frankly, they probably don't want it.
  5. I think Goldy could definitely be one of those sleeper players this year. Many people are focused on Pettersson and Gaudette and the exciting new forwards, and although Goldy isn't new, he had a strong finish to last year (7 points in last 11 games) and if he continues that, I could see him surprising with 20+ goals and 40+ points.
  6. He has a full NTC for the next two years. For the final two years, he has a limited NTC.
  7. Does this mean he's a brony?
  8. Can confirm from personal experience.
  9. The counter argument is if we sign Brock this year to a $7M and he plays like $9M next year, we get a big bargain. I have no problem with paying him a ton, but if we can get a bargain by signing him before this year, that'd be nice. That said, I'm playing the devil's advocate here; I'd rather sign him after his second season.
  10. I think the only way we pay double digits for Brock is if he scores 50+ goals or 100+ points next year. Two great seasons isn't enough to pay that much unless they're really incredible. But I can see the concern, as another strong season would probably push his salary up to 8 or maybe even 9 million.
  11. I think you've hit the nail on the head here. He's hard-pressed to carve out an offensive career here unless he takes the Burrows route. He'll likely fit best as an energy bottom six guy.
  12. Eight years ago today, I joined CDC.

how old is stealth? if he is 20, then cdc is 20 years old.

"how old is stealth? if he is 20, then cdc is 20 years old." - I'm guessing Joe Smithers has underwear older than that (I know I do).

I just realized this is year 10 for me o.o

  13. Fair point. I guess the sample size has me concerned. Eriksson was nearly a point per game for a 10 game stint or so. I'm just curious to see if Leipsic can maintain a pace similar to that throughout the year or not.
  14. I would put him clearly above Motte and about on par with Gagner in terms of offensive play. Goldy at the end of the year may have been better than Leipsic. Generally speaking, I would agree that he's a bit overrated around here.
  15. Very interesting. I'd rather see how this year goes for him first, but I wouldn't be crushed to see him re-signed. The floor for him is $6.5M at this point I think unless he signs some sort of weird bridge-ish deal for like 4 years or something instead of a 6-8 year contract. That said, these are just preliminary discussions, which is to be expected. It doesn't mean he'll be signed before the season. We may yet have to wait until the end of the year still.
  16. I'm pretty sure they're counted as a separate franchise. They folded in the mid 30s completely. Just like the old Jets and the new Jets are considered separate franchises for record-keeping purposes. The Cup for the Millionaires in 1915 is also never attributed to the Canucks franchise, in the same way. Officially, they can't announce/sign until 9am, but a lot of info gets out on unofficial deals in the hours just prior.
  17. Because he's still a young player and probably wants to re-sign with the Canucks.
  18. I just realized that next year, Corey Perry will probably surpass Teemu Selanne as the all-time games leader in Ducks history. That feels weird.

But probably not in all-time dives?

  19. If Jake pulls that off I'll be over the moon. For now my expectations are a little less optimistic, but I did like what I saw at the end of last year. I'd predict more like 25-30 points, which is still an improvement and movement in the right direction.
  20. The day this game series returns to PC is the day I become $80 poorer. I'd buy that stuff up in a heartbeat, but I don't play any other console games, so it's hardly worth buying an entire console for just one game.
  21. The concern is that we need a second line centre. If Beagle can take some tough minutes, Sutter may be more free for offensive roles if he wishes. We know he can approach 40 points if given the opportunity.
  22. Time to take a four hour exam on 4.5 hours of sleep...whoopee...

Ahhhh I remember my good old University days.  No four hour exam but three two hour exams in 24 hours.  Stayed awake (was like a walking zombie) for several days studying for exams by drinking vast quantities of "Jolt Cola" .  Fell asleep for umpteen hours after finishing the last exam.....

It's over! It went alright. Glad to get it done. Thanks for the support, guys.

  23. This is the sunk cost fallacy though. Past costs shouldn't factor into future decisions. I'm hoping the decision is made based on his play in training camp and what we've seen of him already, not the year already burnt off his contract. I'm hoping he comes out strong and earns a spot.
  24. You make fair points, thanks for pointing that out. My concerns are that Gaudette didn't really wow me and didn't feel like he was quite at an NHL level yet last year. As much as I want him to become our next great middle six forward, I want him to be ready first. If he plays like he did in his few games last year, I don't think he's ready. If he improves, then maybe he is. He had some brilliant moments, but he was overwhelminginlgy...underwhelming :P. In contrast, Boeser dominated the game during his 9 game stint in 2016-17, which is why many (including myself) had him slotted for the top 6.
