  1. If he meshed with Bo I wouldn't be surprised. He's a 40-point guy without him, so with Bo (and presumably Brock), I could believe that his points would rise a fair bit.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

I really want Hutton to come back and prove he's still got it. He needs to blow everyone out of the water. He needs to look at the twins for that level of dedication.
  3. Just learned that Scheifele has 14 goals in 15 games in this year's playoffs. The NHL's record is 19 goals, gotten twice, but in might higher scoring eras. It'd be amazing if Scheifele could surpass that.

They will need to start winning again in order for that to happen.

  4. Wow, that's a hefty return. Edler had a very strong season as is a veteran presence at this point, so I can see the appeal.
  5. Absolutely, but as the season wound down, Markstrom significantly out-performed Nilsson and I had them as about equal at the start of last year. Perhaps the team played better in front of Marky, but I didn't particularly notice it.
  6. It's exciting to see Nilsson perform well, but I'm not putting too much stock into it. We've seen Nilsson be good before. The question is whether or not he can remain good over the course of an entire season, which he couldn't do last year.
  7. That moment when you're looking for an excuse not to go to a work party and you realize you "forgot" to RSVP. :D

I'd pay to go to an office work party if Alf promised to attend and eat a cat

I make it a policy not to attend any party that I can get fired at.

My excuse is that I'm not a drinker when I am invited to day things.  I don't drink at work,  but I do drink wine or champagne on my time.  I have attended work parties where you dress up, and have drank wine or champagne, but that was in the Evening. I'm quiet and more of a thinker, and I like to listen to people.

  8. That's crazy. I thought I was nuts by drinking 2-3 litres of water during my day, but athletes put me to shame.
  9. That's an interesting case, as that goal-to-assist ratio is unusual. I would say 25 goals puts you at a solid second liner, no doubt, even with fewer assists.
  10. Skyrim for about the billionth time for me. Never fully beaten the game in one playthrough, but I've done probably 95% of what you can do throughout my different playthroughs. I think the highest level I hit was the mid-60s. My current playthrough is at level 29 I believe.
  11. I'm concerned that those preparing for Jake as a top 6 guy might be setting themselves up for disappointment again. How he comes out this year will tell a lot, but I think tempered expectations are reasonable. I still have him slotted as a middle six guy who can put up 30-40 points a season with maybe one 50-point year during his best year. ***after some research*** After looking at the top 180 forwards in points-per-game, it seems like the bottom of the line 2nd line forwards produce at a rate of about 38 points per season, which is within my projections, so maybe my standards are too high for 2nd line forwards. Given that standard, I suppose Jake could fit into a second line role as a fringe top six kind of guy.
  12. I don't think I'm as sold as a lot of folks are here about Gaudette. I think he'll likely be an NHL guy down the road, but I think he's far from a lock for next year. Given that he has yet to play at all in Utica, I think it makes a lot of sense to start him there. I think he'll get some NHL time, but I don't expect him to be a regular next year.
  13. No worries mate, just clarifying things
  14. Boucher wasn't playing on the Canucks at the season's end. Also note that the forum includes "In the System", meaning that it's not just young prospects. Anyone under a contract with the Canucks is fair game.
  15. He was on the main roster at the season's end, so I suspect he was just left there. I think if he goes to Utica at the start of next year, he'll be moved back there.
  16. Do you think English pronounceability has anything to do with it? Anders and Rasmus are very easy to pronounce for English speakers. Not sure how much English has permeated Swedish culture.
  17. If I recall, there have been several Pers in the NHL, but I'm not sure I can think of more than one or two Bengts.
  18. It's pretty clear to me how dramatically different our team is with and without Tanev, just from watching. Even based on the numbers, it can be seen. With Tanev on the ice, our team had a .452 point percentage, with him gone, we were at .445. With him playing, our goals against per game was at about 3.07, without him it was 3.16. Tanev isn't just another run of the mill defensive defenseman that's easily replaced. He's a defensive master and there are few defensemen who can play to his level in that regard. Just because he doesn't wow you with big hits or points, it doesn't mean he's not a great player. Like the twins were for our forward core, I think Tanev (or Edler, I suppose) is core to keeping our young defenseman stable during their young growing years. If Tanev nets us a crazy return, sure, trade him, but don't underestimate his value to the Canucks during these rebuilding years.
  19. It would injure our blue line pretty badly.
  20. Does Karlsson have T-Shirts about his hair? This shouldn't be close.
  21. From PITB:http://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/passing-genius-elias-pettersson-makes-world-hockey-championship-debut-for-team-sweden-1.23292195?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook Speaking of Zibanejad, he and Pettersson engaged in some friendly competition during a Swedish practice https://www.aftonbladet.se/tv/a/251457 before the start of the tournament. The two took turns drilling the puck into the net with a radar gun set up behind it. Pettersson hit 157 km/h (97.6 mph) and it took Zibanejad several tries (and a new stick) to best it, reaching 159 km/h (98.9mph) with his last attempt. If Pettersson can reach that speed with his slap shot at 165 lbs, he could break 100 mph as he adds strength over the next few years. I wouldn't be that surprised if Pettersson actually has that hard of a shot. It would explain how he scores on so many slap shots.
  22. I think the concerns with giveaways being correlated to strong play are valid, but couldn't they be adjusted for by looking at things like corsi, etc? Wouldn't looking at many factors including ones that favour players with the puck counteract the negative affect of giveaways? I think his concern was more towards the "noisiness" you mentioned. What's a giveaway and what's a takeaway? Is one always the other? If not, which one is it, a giveaway or a takeaway? It all seems kind of murky I guess.
  23. Question to other analytical junkies (I consider myself a fringe analytics junkie, just the basic analytics stuff mostly for me): How accurate do you think giveaway and takeaway numbers are? I did an analysis of the best defensemen at the half-way mark of this season and when I shared it with a friend, he expressed doubt in my decision to take giveaways and takeaways into consideration. Are those concerns valid?
  24. Ehh, it's still kinda indirect. Benning agreed to a quote from someone, presumably Kuzma, but he may have paraphrased it in the article. I'd have to hear the quote to be sure. Still, you've convinced me that 4 years won't happen for sure.
  25. Did he say that directly? He definitely said they'll need to prove themselves, but I'm not sure he said anything about contract length. That said, even if he didn't overtly say it, that does imply that he'll get a shorter deal. Probably 2 or 3 years.
