  1. I'm not sure many people would say Brock is better than Barzal, but I think you'd have a very hard time putting Brock lower than 3rd or 4th. I'd have him at 2nd just below Barzal personally.
  2. Somehow, I'm back to playing Skyrim again. I recently hit over 1000 combined hours on all platforms and game versions.
  3. If it's arbitration that ends up getting Sven his deal, it'll almost certainly be a one or two year deal, based on what I've seen with arbitration in the past. I think if he signs a deal before then without arbitration, it'll be 3 or 4 years. Certainly not 6 years like Bo.
  4. I can agree with that. He certainly shouldn't be getting Bo Horvat money or anything like that.
  5. I think Baer's a harder worker than people give him credit for. He's our top LW right now, but in an ideal world, he becomes our #2 LW and does some PK and 2nd unit PP on the side.
  6. I'm shocked at how many people are surprised or disappointed with getting the 7th pick. You'd think after two draft lotteries in a row, folks would learn to set their expectations at the most likely pick, not where we ended up. I'm leaving this lottery feeling fairly relieved more than anything else.

so many whiners about us winning games down the stretch. i can't handle people like that.

 people spend millions every week trying to win 6/49, I'm not surprised.

Its crappy that an idiot like Bergevin is getting rewarded but lots of things aren't fair. Look at Vegas, you can build teams many ways.

its hope and dreams vrs reality. reality wins all the time.

  7. I'm more and more starting to expect the 8th pick. It's the second-most likely outcome and the fact that no one is expecting it makes it a fitting pick for us.

We'll get a good player.  I was pretty choked last year that we were picking 5th and look what we got.   Someone would find a way to complain if we won the lottery and got Dahlin.

we are picking 1,2 or 3

I've been playing around with the simulator and I keep getting 7th overall just 2 1st overall. I'd say we're probably gonna pick 7th, 8th or 9th.

  8. If they were to race 10 times, I'd bet McDavid would win 7 or 8 times, but Virtanen isn't too far behind probably.
  9. A little disappointed, but I'm sure we'll make do without him.

I'll actually go find a pool to flip if the Canucks pick 9th. I'm hoping for a top 5 pick with a slight glimmer of hope for the lottery win.

However. If by some miracle they do win the lottery I am going to cry tears of joy.

  10. I think it's crucial that Archibald understands that, at this point, his spot is not yet secured. He looked good and I think he can hold down a 4th line NHL job, but there is a lot of internal competition and he could lose his job very easily. I believe he'll be able to do it. I think he'll push hard for a one-way deal and probably get it, but he'll have to sacrifice money or term to get it. I'd bet he gets a 1-year one-way deal for less than $1M.
  11. It's weird going through old threads and seeing old users that are no longer around.

yeah; old threads get archived or whatever otherwise we'd have stuff going back 10+ years

  12. Very slow day at work today. Nothing to do and the boss isn't around to give me any tasks. The whole accounting department is just killing time, lol.
  13. He's great in Utica, but he's got nothing to offer in the NHL.
  14. Seriously, this kid does not slow down. He has no off button. It's like he's on a permanent hot streak.
  15. Personally, while I think Virtanen could be a shutdown guy, he's not quite there yet. Right now, he's focusing on being an energy player, doing the little things right, and creating offense. I think he'd still have a lot to learn before he could be an effective shutdown guy, but I do think he could get there someday.
  16. I had to do a double-take there. Someone complimenting Baertschi? A rarity on CDC.
  17. To be fair, Eriksson had a better season than last year, so it's a step in the right direction. I'm not sure if we can expect anything more out of him than what we saw this past year, but he steps it up again, he'll start being pretty valuable to the team (not $6M mind you, but it's something).
  18. Jokinen isn't quite Vanek, but I saw a lot of the same smarts in his game. His experience shows and he plays a very smart game. I wouldn't mind him on a cheap one-year deal for some experience on the team.
  19. Interestingly I feel that Stecher has been let off the hook a lot this year because of Hutton's poor play. Both are around the same age and have followed a similar development track, so they are constantly compared. While Stecher had a poor year, Hutton's was disastrous, somewhat muffling the hubbub about Stecher's season. The two main differences between Hutton's game level and Stecher's game level were: - Stecher, while still having a poor offensive season, still outperformed Hutton in point production. - Stecher worked his tail off whereas Hutton didn't seem to play as hard. Comparing this year to last year, Stecher took a massive dive in offensive production, scoring at less than half the rate of last year, but it could be argued that he improved defensively. He was used a little less in offensive situations than last year which could contribute to less offense. His Corsi dropped, though that's somewhat expected with a drop in offensive zone start percentage. His CF%/oZS% last year was 0.965 and improved slightly this year to 0.996, so that could indicate that his possession was somewhat better given his usage. In a similar vein, his +/- improved from -16 to -7, which again, could indicate improved defense. Stecher played nearly 20 minutes a game last year, but that number dropped down to 18:49 this year, so it's possible that Green is sheltering him more than WD did. All in all, I'd say this was a worse year for Stecher than last year, but an improvement in defense is encouraging at the very least.
  20. 5th Round actually. Great drafting by Benning and our scouting team.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

Agreed. He has one year to turn it around, otherwise he'll eternally be a depth defenseman or a top AHL defenseman.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

It feels to me that Ben will be Green's next pet project. Much like how he turned Jake around somewhat, he'll now spend more time with Hutton to revitalize his NHL hopes. It would be quite a testament to his coaching skills if he could get Hutton going as well.
