    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

Perhaps now that Virtanen is looking good, Hutton is Green's next pet project?
  2. I think Baer had a solid spot on the first like with Bo and Boeser and clicked very well with both of his linemates. That said, the line hasn't been together for too much, as all three forwards have spent significant periods of time injured this season. Baertschi's challenge will be to beat out any contenders to his spot on the top line (Pettersson and Leipsic at this point). Unless anyone proves to be better with Bo and Boeser, I don't see why Baertschi should be removed from that top line.
  3. If Baertschi and the twins both leave, how are we going to fill that gap on offense? I think it would be betting a lot to assume all of our other young guys can step in and fill in 150 points in their rookie seasons. The other solution would be to look to free agency to replace that, but I think losing both the twins and Baertschi and relying only on rookies to fill the gap is a mistake.
  4. I think it would be good to be somewhat cautious with the term. I'm not sold enough on him to offer him 5 or 6 years, but I'm willing to give him 3 or 4 years. With Seattle coming in 2020 (I think), anything more than a 2-year deal would make him exposable. We'll see at that time if anyone has stepped up to take his role or if he continues to step up his play.
  5. He's up for renewal this summer. He's an RFA. I expect he'll sign a mid-term deal; 3 or 4 years.
  6. Thanks to his two-point game last night, his point production has now reached exactly last year's projected rate, even while playing such a defensive role. This guy has practically become the next Malhotra at this point. Stellar faceoff percentages (not quite Manny-level) and outstanding defensive play. I was so confident in him during our 3 on 5 last night even though they were scored on. He's such a reliable defensive guy, I can see why Green likes him.
  7. He shows some flashes, but at this rate, I think he'll be in Utica next year.
  8. I think your focus is too singular. A one-dimensional team will not win, as with the Oilers, as you've pointed out. However, a team with a one-dimensional offensive player could be balanced with a great defensive player such as Kesler or Malhotra. Balance on the team level is required. While balance at an individual level is ideal, a lack of it can be accommodated by other teammates.
  9. Last night feels like a dream. Did that all really happen? #thankyouSedins

  10. These numbers are sorta inflated, coming right after a two-goal game, but if Goldobin had a full 82 games at his current rate, he'd score 18 goals.
  11. I haven't been watching a ton of Canucks hockey, but I'm watching tonight and Goldobin looks like a new man compared to what I saw two weeks ago.
  12. Tanev played a bit in that year, but only a bit. Edler's longevity may be more recognized now that the long-lasting twins are leaving.
  13. When I first started watching Canucks hockey 18 years ago, the Canucks had two young rookies, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, drafted 2nd and 3rd overall. While they showed promise, they weren't quite what people wanted and many people mocked them for it.

Still, they persevered and worked so hard that they became two of the best players in the world for a few years. They let our team right to the cusp of a Stanley Cup and are by far the best Canucks of all-time. I knew their retirement might come this year, but it's almost an unfathomable feeling, knowing they won't be on the roster next year. In all my time as a fan, I've never seen a Canuck roster without the Sedin twins.

I'll be forever grateful for what they did and players and as people contributing to the community here. I'm so proud of them and the legacy they've created and will leave. Daniel and Henrik, enjoy your retirement. You deserve a rest now.
  14. 8 points in 11 games with Vancouver so far. How sustainable would that be? My guess is that he'd be pushed out of a top 9 role next year probably, but it's interesting to see random veterans coming to Vancouver and actually succeeding for once.
  15. I agree. I really didn't think much of him, but he's got 5 points in 10 games so far. Wouldn't be bad as some veteran depth. He's no Vanek, but it seems like he can still hold his own in the NHL.
  16. Not gonna lie, I'd be thrilled if we won all four of our final games to end the season on a 7-game win streak. It would give a lot of hope for next year.

it certainly shows Green can instil the right kind of attitude in a team.

To me the manner of victory matters. If its the kids leading the way then I don't really have any qualms, if its the vets then I have to admit it is irksome.

i'm more interested in how arizona, ottawa, montreal, detroit and vancouver do the last few games. buffalo seems destined to end up last. the rest of the teams could end up anywhere between 26th to 30th. saturday, we see, ott vs det; mon vs pitts; buff vs nash; ari vs stl; van vs columbus.

buf 60, ott 65, ari 65, van 67, mon 68, and det 69. we could end up anywhere from 2 nd pick to 9th pick.

  17. This is possible, though it's going off a small sample size for Leipsic. Baertschi has a large sample size and has show improvement every year. While Leipsic has been great in his 11 games (7 points), we'd be betting on him to continue that. Furthermore, he has even less games with both Horvat and Boeser combined, as Boeser was only active for three games with Leipsic before the injury. Granted, they were great, but it's a bit of a risk. Not saying it shouldn't be done, but the risk should be acknowledged.
  18. I looked into it. It was far more common in the old days (the 70s), but the most recent one I could find was Robert Kron, drafted in 1985. That said, Kron joined the team at 23 years old in 1990-91 after playing in the men's Czech league for years. The most recent one I can find that doesn't seem to be an oddity like that is Moe Lemay, who played 5 games with the Canucks in 1981-82 after his great OHL career with the 67's in the OHL. Hutton was close, as he played in just 4 AHL games before he made the jump.
  19. I've been noticing that Marky's save percentage has snuck up a little bit. Sure enough, in the month of March, Markstrom has a .923 save percentage so far. Although he still lacks consistency, it's good to see some improvement at least. Last year he had a .910 save percentage as a backup and this year, he's at .912 so far as the starter. Not great numbers, but it's an improvement at least.
  20. With his assist tonight, Hank passes Alex Delvecchio and moves alone into 26th all-time in career assists with 826 assists. Next one to beat would be Bobby Clarke, but that wouldn't happen until next year (if he plays), as he's sitting at 852 assists, a full 26 assists ahead of Henrik.
  21. It's still arguable that his 2012-13 could be more productive. That season had a 0.488 points-per-game wheras this year has a .484 points-per-game. Pretty similar, but it's hard to shake those 8 goals in 45 games.
  22. I agree. If Jake can become an aggressive third line guy with the ability to put up 35-40 points per season, I'd be thrilled.
  23. I said a while back (I think it was in another thread) that Goldy will likely not be back in the NHL if he doesn't fix up his game for these last 10 games or so. Tonight was a good start towards keeping his NHL job.
  24. One more goal and Horvat sets a new career best in goals! Amazing that he's done this, even while missing so many games. Pro-rated to 82 games, he would be on pace for 29 goals.
  25. I mean mentally. The twins think the game at a very advanced level and not everyone can think as quickly as they do. Jake seems to think and play a simple game.
