  1. I would agree. He doesn't carry the team, but he's a pretty big source of secondary scoring for us.
  2. It would be interesting to pro-rate the players offensive totals now. I usually do them after a nice win, but they would look so bad right now, haha.

At their current pace, everyone is already at their season point totals.

I can confirm, it looks ugly.

  3. It keeps me going. I actually enjoy the challenge of trying to find bright spots after bad games.
  4. With the game tonight, Markstrom's save percentage is now at .911, higher than last year's of .910. Still lower than the .915 he had two years back, but hey, it's something.
  5. If he has recurring injuries, this contract could go from iffy to brutal. Hopefully this is all there is for his shoulder.
  6. I'm a big Tanev fan, but if we could trade him in a Dahlin deal, I'd look into that. Thing is, unless a team gets lucky in the lotto, they're probably not in a position to want a 28-year old defenseman in his prime. That said, if a budding playoff team wins the lottery, I'd be down to trade Tanev and our 4th-6th pick for the 1st pick, if that would do it.
  7. The fewest goals any NHL forward has ever had while compiling over 40 assists is 7 goals, most recently done by Joe Thornton last year, when he had 7 goals and 43 assists. Henrik will most certainly set the new record there, as he's at 2 goals and 41 assists right now.

EDIT: Turns out, he's actually currently first all-time including defensemen too. Kimmo Timonen had 3 goals and 40 assists in 2008-09, so Henrik could be the all-time "leader" in this category if he doesn't score again.

I'm not convinced that Hank will register 5 SOG the remainder of the year, let alone get 5 goals to tie Jumbo.

    2. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

The most Canuck thing ever would be a puck going off Henrik's face and into the net during the last game of the season to lose the record.

Henrik leads the league in 2nd assists this year with 30.  He only has 11 first assists.  The ratio seems really low for that many assists especially for a F.

  8. I think he's referring to the chemistry, not one versus the other. Was Pettersson drafted over guys like Glass because of his potential chemistry or was he going to be picked regardless? Did that give the edge over to drafting Pettersson? Still, I think Benning has Pettersson very high on his list--possibly no. 1, so I think he would've been picked regardless.
  9. I think you're misreading the stat. Rather than placing many restrictions on a single stat, I think it's emphasizing all of the things that Sutter does defensively. Think of it as a list. He: 1) Plays more than 17 minutes a game 2) Plays more than 2 PK mins a game 3) He has more than a 75% defensive zone start percentage Not necessarily saying anything about how good he is, it's just saying that he plays a fair bit of minutes and is heavily used for defense. How you interpret things beyond that is up to you.
  10. Shocking. I would have never guessed he hit that much.
  11. I agree with the for the former part, I don't expect either of them to be NHLers until 2019-20 probably. I can't fully agree with the latter statement though, as the two guys bring slightly different things to the table. Gaunce is physical, but much less so than Archi; however, Gaunce has stellar defensive play whereas Archie is more average in that regard. Gaunce is more of a shutdown forward and Archie is more of a hard-hitting grinder.
  12. At this point, I wouldn't be against trading him for another prospect or picks. He's not showing a desire to get better. A player of his style can't fit in on the bottom six either, so he'll either end up in the AHL or the KHL for his playing career.
  13. I've realized that I have somewhat of a superiority complex when it come to hockey knowledge with the "average" hockey fan. I find myself getting very excited to unleash my research and knowledge on their opinions to impress them or something.

i sure appreciate what you do with researching canuck and league history. it is informative and interesting. you make this forum better for me. thank you lad.

i don't really have a great hockey knowledge but proceed with the same method i use in all faucets of my life. i go with my gut feeling. sometimes i'm bang on and other times, i'm out to lunch. i hope that in those situations, fellow cdc'er can not hold me in too disregard. i can admit my fallacies and stinking thinking.

hell, i'm just a kid from smithers.

@Green Building, what was that about a superiority complex!?

I had six electric unicorns and some buds writing my posts last night.

And it's really the syntax errors making your eyes bleed there, Nazi.

  14. He was on TSN's top 10 most skilled NHL players of all-time that was made a while back too.
  15. Heck, even Nilsson topped 130 points in the NHL once.
  16. This guy is freakin' insane. It's far to early to say for sure (Hischier is having a strong year), but Pettersson could actually be the best player in the draft. How does Benning do it?
  17. I agree. I'm a bit concerned that he will be too wild and cost us a lot of PK time. So long as he can control his game (as Burrows eventually learned), I'm fine with his aggressive style.
  18. I don't disagree with you, but the takeaways and giveaways comparison to defensemen isn't exactly fair. As someone who's looked a fair bit into takeaways and giveaways, defensemen almost always have horrendous ratios. Finding a defenseman with a positive differential is extremely rare, though I have no idea why. All that aside, I still agree with the main premise of your post.
  19. I'd prefer to spend that money on a $6M defenseman, which we need far more sorely than another scoring forward.
  20. Nope, many people are. Smaller guy, but plays a similar style.
  21. I mostly agree. As much as Jake has looked fantastic recently, Ehlers looks like a solid 1st line forward at this point, far more valuable than Jake will ever been except in certain moments, such as some playoff games perhaps.
  22. Not gonna lie, Eriksson has grown on me. He provides good defensive play and adds a bit of offense along the way as well.
  23. I'm always Switzerland, haha. Yeah, I see him as something like that.
  24. Seems like there is a debate of whether or not Jake will be a bottom-six guy or a top-six guy. How about middle six? That's where I see him ending up.
  25. There were debatably two goals in two separate games in which it occurred. I can't recall for sure myself.
