    Alex Biega | #55 | D

I don't think he's gonna get enough games in, unless he already has enough and I just don't know the rules well. I'd agree that Biega isn't particularly outplaying anyone. In generally sheltered minutes, he is surprisingly capable and physical, but against stars (like Wheeler), he struggles more. He's a serviceable 6/7 defenseman for sure and plays that role very well.
  2. I'm thinking about starting a blog on hockey history. Thoughts? Do people still read blogs at all on CDC?

I'd consider using WordPress or something, but I'm not sure I'd get an audience at all over there. How does one gain followers on a blog aside from blatant advertising?

My friend and I run a music based blog where we just write for fun (missed writing after I left university). We average about 10 visitors a day, and all that it's really taken is interacting with people on twitter and updating somewhat regularly. I'd be sure to check it out if you shared it here.

Because I like the hockey history idea a whole lot.

  3. Schneider had a .922 save percentage in playoff games while in Vancouver and hasn't made the playoffs yet with New Jersey since the Devils are terribly bad. ...but I like your positivity, Alf
  4. Too early to say that IMO. We struck gold with Bo at #9, but Schneider is a top 10 goaltender in the League. Last year, I would have argued he was the second best next to Price. A surprisingly even trade that we probably were expected to lose.
  5. I'm glad that Jake is thriving in Utica. He desperately need to grow in both his game and personal maturity. Utica and Green seem to be doing wonders for him. He really needs to spend the entire year there and help Utica make a run at the playoffs. I must also add that it's not surprising that Utica is so much better for him than Van. He was in over his head and seemed to lose focus of what it took to be an NHL player and pretty much everyone saw it. I'm glad the team finally realized that it was best for him.
  6. Depends on how you calculate it. Just based on his points-per-game and 82 games (keep in mind he was in Utica to start the season), he's on pace for 32 points; still a fair ways off. Stellar for a rookie kid though. If I had to guess, I'd say he'll get 27-30 points this year in about 70 games.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

Indeed. In the pre-season, I expected big things from him, but I have quickly tempered my expectations and am looking more long-term with Hutty. He's still young so I'll be patient with him and hopefully he'll slowly develop into a stud.
  8. I'd say that Bo is the best player on the team right now and by far the most likely to represent us at the All-Star game this year.
  9. He really is improving. He might not be having the big year we hoped for, but he's at least becoming more steady and looking like a 2nd line guy.
  10. Tanev will be a breath of fresh air. Like Edler, I think many people forgot how nice it is to have him around.
  11. Pedan's value is rock bottom right now. He has shown he can't make it in the NHL and so far isn't looking good in Utica either. Subban would at least have value as an AHL star player with a slim chance at making the NHL still.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

I thought it was a modified NMC or NTC? Lemme look it up. Ah, I see now. NMC for first two years, NTC for next two and modified NTC for the last two. So yeah, NMC for now.
  13. More like the next Jason King. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

Remember, in 2006-07, Burrows scored three goals in 81 games. Gaunce will get there eventually.
  15. Indeed, I meant "problem" as in a good problem to have.
  16. A valid point. I'm not counting on either making to the NHL though. We'll see though.
  17. A bit too early say that Brisebois and Olsen are going to do well. Brisebois has improved slightly from year to year, but Olsen is having a rough start to the year. Overall though, I'd agree with you on Benning's talent analysis.
  18. Problem is, we have seven NHL-quality d-men with Tram and Stecher stepping up.
  19. I like this. It looks crazy to have Tanev on the third pairing, but it's not crazy if the minutes are spread evenly. Thinking of it more like three fairly even pairings as opposed to a very distinct hierarchy of pairings helps.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

He's struggling if you're looking at the offensive numbers, but the reason he hasn't been sent down and no one's talking about sending him down is because his defensive game is solid. Gaunce isn't expected to become anything better than a 3rd line forward so point production is not of the utmost importance for him. Gaunce currently has a corsi rating of 50.44%, better than more than half the team. His -4 rating is also better than more than half the the regular players on the team.
  21. Was gonna say something like that myself. Jake should see how Stecher works and use that as an example. Stecher's story is inspirational to me as I am a small guy who likes playing defense as well, so it's neat to see a small guy having some success.
  22. I see his ceiling as a 2/3 defenseman maybe getting 35-45 points per season in his prime. A season closer to 50 much like Edler wouldn't be out of the question either.
  23. I honestly agree. It seems that every year, people hate on Edler, but every year when he (inevitably) gets injured, we falter. It's not a coincidence, people. Edler is a huge part of this team, even if many don't realize it.
  24. Maybe I'm not remembering the draft class well, but I personally think Bo is the case of a player who has exceeded what people thought his potential was in 2013. He was labeled as a 2nd line, maybe 3rd line guy in the draft. Most guys like that don't get top 3, even if they have superb leadership skills. I think if you were to re-draft, we'd definitely see Bo go higher, but I think at the time, people just underestimated his potential.
