  1. I actually think Vlasic is about Tanev's career ceiling. A guy who can get 5-10 goals consistently while adding 30-40 assists. Pair that up with his great defense and you have one of the best defensemen in the league if he really nails it down.
  2. Did an analysis on who I think should've won the Selke last year (2015-16). Interesting results, as always. I always find my results deviate quite a bit from who actually wins.

    1st - P. Bergeron

    2nd - J. Thornton

    3rd - J. Pavelski

    4th - B. Marchand

    5th - A. Kopitar

    6th - M. Stone

    7th - J. Toews

I tested on 35 players, but these are just the top 7.

Bergeron really should be winning it every year.

@Jaku I'm at school at the moment, but I'll try to give more info on how I did it when I get home.

@Jaku Basically, I took a look at a bunch of statistics I consider valuable for defensive forwards, such as face-off percentage, blocked shots, Corsi, Fenwick, +/-, etc. From there, I picked out the top five from every category to get a wide variety of players. From then on, I simply ranked the players in each category compared to each other. At the end of it all, I totaled up the ranks and the players with the lowest total numbers were the highest in the rankings.

      It's worth noting that:

      a) I was a bit lazy as I went on and disregarded players near the bottom of each category, so being in the bottom third, say, didn't give you an advantage over being completely last place

b ) I did measure players on points-per-game as well as I find that Selke nominees tend to be well-rounded in offense as well.

If you want, I can show screenshots of my spreadsheet as well.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

I'd agree. He's got the physical size to be a gritty third liner who can get things done, but he needs to be filling that role. He doesn't need to be a jerk or a fighter, but just willing to push his way around a bit more.
  4. Write a philosophical essay. That's what I do when I'm bored. That or just write out a rant based on some strong opinion I have.
  5. I'm definitely looking to live more eastward, in the Fraser Valley. The furthest west I'd live would probably be west Langley around 200th street. If I was buying a home, it would be a small and cheap one for sure, since I'm just about to graduate university. I will likely have a stable accounting job, but I won't be moving out for a year or so; however, if buying is a possibility, I may stay at home for an extra year to save up the necessary capital for such an investment.
  6. Just tell me if prices will drop so I can know whether to save up for a down payment or just accept saving up for rental payments.
  7. Ah, indeed. For some reason, it didn't occur to me to look there. I knew I had seen it before, which made it all the more infuriating when I couldn't find it.
  8. Is there a "report" option? I saw some fairly personal attacks on here and wanted to report them, but couldn't see how.
  9. For some reason, when I'm trying to quote a guy and pick the wrong quote, I can't completely delete it. I can delete the text but not the box around it. From then on, it just goofs up the entire post and it's next to impossible. EDIT: Like so and only in this one topic. I cannot delete that box, nor can I type at all. I basically can't post in that thread at all now. EDIT 2: I seem to have fixed it by simply undoing (CTRL-Z) but still, might be something to look at.
  10. Question for you fellow grammar nazis out there. Does the term "rather" in a question (as in, would you rather...) always imply that there are only two options or could there be more than two options?

@SaintPatrick33 That usage or "rather" is the way I expected it to be. However, what about in the following way:

"Which would you rather do? One, two, or three?"

Is that correct usage of "rather" or would it be better to use a different word there?

    3. SaintPatrick33

      SaintPatrick33

I do believe proper use would restrict you to a comparison between two items.

"Which would you rather do? One or two?"

Ah, thank you, that is as I suspected. I just needed some outside verification.

  11. If a young guy is going to get a spot, he should be able to beat out Eriksson for it. A declining and old Eriksson shouldn't be hard to beat, nor would he be hard to bury in the minors after his NMC ends in two years. All that said, I'm not expecting him to decline that much.
  12. A tad longer than I'd like, but the deal is surprisingly decent.
  13. I would totally get this game, but I'm not sure it's worth the price. TF2 is free so even if Overwatch is better, I'm not sure if it's $80 better. Maybe I'll try it some time.
  14. I don't know for sure, but for some reason, I feel like it might be lump sum. I think their contracts are in a sense divided by the game for suspension purposes (losing out on salary) and what not, but I feel like I heard somewhere that it might be lump sum. No source though, so I could be totally wrong.
  15. Question: If feminism strives for equality between men and women, then what does masculism strive for? The same?

Oh, these 1970's questions that resurface...

Recently I've been pondering this one: Has the changed world of the last two decades(mostly IT-attributable) been more beneficial for the fairer sex? If so, would they openly acknowledge this development?

Almost everything we've created for convenience of living, is now destroying the living planet.

Meanwhile, TPTB sit back, amusingly watching the divided & conquer bicker away.(gender, race, class, political & economic lines are fractured)

  16. At 190+ pounds, I'm not too concerned about his size. His weight can help make up for it, just like Subban's should eventually.
  17. I agree. This is the main reason I'd like him to stay. His performance has died out significantly, but his character in the locker room is pretty much irreplaceable. He's a huge influence to have around a rebuilding team.
  18. Who was that super crazy homer all over on CDC? I haven't seen him in so long, I forget what his username was.

  20. So I'm thinking about doing an updated poll on the Top Canucks of All-Time, similar to the one Champions of Nothing did about 5 years ago. What do people think? Would it be interesting or too similar to the old one?

That does sound like a lot of fun, Joe! I may give that a try. That said, I fear that most fans will either not have lived in the 70s or 80s (like myself) nor done any research on players from those times. I'm concerned that interest may be lacking.

some people don't like history...some like to learn...some just like to complain...as for me....i loved every player that toiled for me over the years....lest we forget.

  21. What a legend.

  22. From time to time, teams tend to mix it up. I've seen the Canucks wear the whites at home as well on occasion.
  23. It could be argued that CuJo might be ahead of him, but they're sure close. Lu's got him in shutouts, not to mention the fact that Lu got to game 7 of the Finals.
