  1. Well deserved, of course. Might be many many years until someone beats his games record with the Sharks (1607 games). His points record was almost beaten by Thornton, but since it wasn't, that one is quite safe for a while too (1111 points).
  2. I think he has it in him to be that level, but I don't think he's there right now. What a blessing it would be if he became that though.
  3. Agreed. They do seem very similar.
  4. Mind blowing. So much cheaper than it costs in Canada, even after accounting for exchange rates.
  5. It's not crazy to have them both on PP1. Because both excel defensively (especially Hughes), it's not like we'd be sacrificing much offensive threat.
  6. I'm no criminal justice expert, but from what I recall, the maximum sentence in Canada is 25 years before parole is allowed. That said, it doesn't guarantee that parole will actually be given. I have to imagine that 1st degree murder would have a good chance of getting that maximum sentence and unless these guys show any degree of change, they won't be granted parole, so they could be in prison for more than 25 years.
  7. Had no idea Bedard was so small. I wonder if that will scare anyone off?
  8. Would be interesting to watch a highlight package from fringe NHLers. You could probably compile a lot of really nice goals and saves. Funny that many considered the greatest save ever to come from Sebastien Caron in 2006, a goalie who didn't even play 100 NHL games.
  9. Do you think MIkheyev will be the best forward on the Canucks next year, playing the most minutes on the team?
  10. You think he'll play more than Miller next year? If he takes some of Miller's minutes, Miller could drop below 20 mins per game.
  11. I have a feeling he could break out in the next year or two. Could become a steal if he does next year. Arguably already is a steal for a guy close to a 20-goal pace.
  12. Pettersson starting penalty killing at the end of the year in addition to PP time, so he was doing both roles and a 1st line centre. He averaged 18:54 per game from Feb 1 to the end of the year. Mikheyev has never played more than 16 minutes per game in the NHL. There's almost a 0% chance he plays 20 minutes a game unless he suddenly scores at a 1st line rate, like Miller, unless you think Mikheyev is better than Horvat, Pettersson, etc.
  13. I doubt he'll play 20 minutes per game. Miller was the only Canuck to play over 20 minutes a game last year--forwards rarely play that much unless they're superstars who play all roles.
  14. Yeah, his value was probably something like a 3rd or 4th round pick at the time and it tanked to negative value once the allegations came out. If he had another poor 2021-22 season though, he may have ended up sinking to 0 or negative value eventually anyway. There is the chance he would've bounced back a bit though, recovering some value and saving us the buyout cost.
  15. If I recall, he's quite solid defensively and has shown up briefly in my Norris evaluations for his defensive metrics.
  16. I think his only shot would be a PTO, which could happen, but he would need to start performing well in the KHL before getting that chance again. 16 points in 36 games 'aint gonna get the attention of enough teams to give him a shot.
  17. Pettersson may not be a heavy weight, but he is one of the most determined players I've watched in a good while. I wouldn't be shocked to see him get rough with a player to defend a teammate. He strikes me as the kind of guy who would be fiercely loyal to his friends.
  18. I'd be interested to see how he performs in the top six, but I have a feeling he will be used more for defense than offense and his numbers will suffer somewhat as a result. I wouldn't be surprised if he only gets 30-35 points in a full year, playing on the third line.
  19. He may have had a bit of trade value, but recall that Virtanen had 3 points in 16 playoff games in 2020 when most of the team was on fire, especially in the first two round. Add to that he only had 5 goals (and 0 assists) in 38 games in 2020-21 and you have a guy that's a 13th forward at best. Add in his character issues and you have a good recipe for a buyout. As I said, the allegations probably expedited the situation, but even without them, I'm not sure how much he improves in 2021-22 if we keep him for the final year of his contract and he would have maybe very well been let go after this year anyway.
  20. Reality is that Jake wasn't proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility he still did it. Regardless, in the absence of proof beyond reasonable doubt, I suppose we may as well consider him not guilty. As others have said, his poor reputation before all this came down didn't help him either. There's no doubt that this case helped expedite his exit from the NHL, but let's be real, he wasn't performing well on the ice and that was a huge part of the reason he was bought out. Difference between E. Kane and Virtanen is that Kane was still producing on the ice.
  21. Neither Makar nor Josi deserved the Norris this year. MacKenzie Weegar is one of the most underrated defenseman in the NHL (we will see if this proves true now that he's away from Ekblad) I haven't tested this next one, but I expect it will be unpopular: Leon Draisaitl elevates his game in the playoffs more than almost any NHL player in the league right now.
  22. Almost 1300 games and two Cups, so it's deserved. Not a superstar player, but a heart and soul guy for the Kings. Basically Linden with less class.
  23. $7 per game or full the whole season? SN Now is about $200 CAD per year.
