  1. Looks like a really strong AHL guy at the very least, with NHL upside. He's also only 25, pretty young for a free agent.
  2. Probably there to push Martin to make sure he's ready to be a backup. Will also push Dipietro for the starting job in Abby so he has competition.
  3. Has shown improvement recently, though he is 26, so it's probably to late to expect too much from him. Has an outside chance at the 4C spot though.
  4. He hasn't shown any progression, but maybe he just needs a change of scenery.
  5. Some info I've found on Lazar: - Played a fair bit in the AHL in 2018-19 and 2019-20 and was a solid top 6 forward, if not a 1st line guy - 70 NHL games last year was the 2nd highest total of his career thus far - Doesn't take a ton of face-offs, but is clearly used for some draws. 48.9% last year and usually hovers just below 50%. - Most frequent hitter of all of Boston's forwards - Despite frequent hitting, doesn't take many penalties - Blocked more shots than any other Bruin forward last year - Boston had a rotating group of five PKers on both units last year, and Lazar was among them - Used in a pretty heavily defensive role - Solid possession metrics given his defensive usage - Never taken a shootout shot in his NHL career
  6. Yes. He was played in heavy offensive roles for Calgary and thus his numbers were really inflated. I expected someone to be dumb enough not to realize that and overpay. People drool over big defensemen like him.
  7. Expecting an overpayment. I think Guddy's stats were inflated by how he was used in Calgary.
  8. Some tidbits I found about Mikheyev: - Ice time suggests he's a high-end 3rd liner or fringe 2nd line guy - Average hitting frequency - Tall at 6'3", but not overly large at 195lbs - Had a solid rookie campaign, then had a pretty notable sophomore slump before returning to form last year - Doesn't block that many shots - On pace for 32 goals, 17 assists, and 49 points last year in 82 games - Spent time on TOR's 2nd PP unit last year and was arguably one of their better players there - Extremely impressive possession metrics--56.3% CORSI despite very defensive usage - 0/2 in his career in the shootout - Was a solid piece of TOR's 2nd PK unit - Turns 28 just before the start of the season - Had a much higher shooting percentage than earlier in his career, but not out of line with goal-scorers (14.3%)
  9. That seems obscenely cheap. Lower taxes coming into effect?
  10. I will agree that by the eye test, he does seem short, but I do wonder why he's registered as way taller than he actually is if that's true.
  11. You have evidence to the contrary? Wikipedia has him as 5'8" and NHL.com, HockeyDB, Elite Prospects, and Hockey-reference all have him at 5'10".
  12. Yeah, this is probably more plausible. Downgrade somewhere where we're stronger to upgrade a weakness elsewhere.
  13. Garland is 5'10" and also a year younger. I'd rather keep Garland, personally. That said, I doubt it's as simple as Garland for Mikheyev, even if Garland does go.
  14. Hmm, I've always been a Thomas fan and of the mind that he's underrated, but even I think this is too much. He's very young though, so I guess they're betting on that.
  15. Someone big is definitely gone with this move. A trade is almost 100% impending now. Either significant roster player(s) or big prospects/picks to move out big contracts.
  16. Big value, but his reputation almost certainly lowered the cost. If he can avoid being a locker room cancer, this could be insane value for the Oilers.
  17. I was a huge proponent of the fact that Pearson was seriously underrated in 2019-20, but he fell off a cliff in 2020-21. He bounced back nicely this past year, but I still think he's not what he was in 2019-20 and posting a two-year old highlight package only emphasizes that. Regardless, I like Pearson on the team and think he's a very solid 3rd line guy who doesn't look out of place when put on the 2nd line for stints.
  18. Similar to the Letang deal, it's a steal, but a bit long. That said, Letang is better than Malkin at this point.
  19. Fair point, but goal scoring has never been his thing as much as playmaking and 11 assists is pretty strong.
