  1. An interesting discussion. Given his recent trend of producing a little better, I would lean towards figuring it out, but maybe we need another decent show from him to prove that.
  2. Looks like he was also decent, though not that good in 2020, but he was real bad in both 2017 and 2019, so I can understand where he got the reputation from.
  3. Yeah, a fair analysis. I would say Miller is worth pretty equal to Weegar and Bennett might be worth just a little more than Garland, but both are fairly close. I don't know enough about Hornqvist to assess how much his worth is below his cap hit, but if that's valuable enough for FLA, then maybe your proposal makes sense.
  4. Not sure I understand the narrative that Gaudreau doesn't play in the playoffs. He had 14 points in 12 games. Am I missing something?
  5. Playing hockey will no doubt help keep him in shape. I'm also pretty sure Da Beauty League doesn't last the entire summer. I think it ends at some point in early August or something.
  6. Does anyone know a good source for zone entry and exit stats? I'm having trouble sourcing this data.

I did find his work, as well as Sport Logiq, but yeah both are behind a paywall. Maybe it's just not publicly available enough yet to be free.

The NHL at some point will make their own tracking data available.

I would love that. I think zone entries and exits would capture some of what I'm missing in my own analysis.

  7. Similar, though Schenn is about 3.5 years younger than Edler. Still, they fill somewhat similar roles.
  8. How much was Dipietro's QO for? Trying to figure it out on CapFriendly and it looks like standard is 105% of his base from the previous contract. If that's based on the final year of his contract, his base was 800k, so the QO would be $840k. Did I do that right?
  9. Some interesting names, but like some have suggested with us and Lammikko, this could just be a case of avoiding the QO and waiting to re-sign once they hit UFA.
  10. I'm fairly certain it's already done as of the end of this past season. His name doesn't show up on CapFriendly at all now.
  11. Yeah, McDavid was brutal for Edler in his last year with us too, but as you say, he does that to most defensemen.
  12. I think you might be underrating some of the FLA pieces, but I like the premise. I'd honestly think you have to change the 2nd to a later pick like 4th or 5th for this to be considered by FLA. Might even have to remove it altogether.
  13. He was actually really good for LA last year. This could be a steal depending on how he plays. If he can remain uninjured, he should get his bonus too.
  14. I have been very very high on Weegar for a few years now. IMO, he's a #1 D on the vast majority of teams. He doesn't score a billion points, but he's extremely solid defensively on top of getting 40+ points. He's in the "do everything well and nothing poorly" mold. That said, I think Florida realizes how good he is (He was 8th in Norris voting in 2020-21 and 14th this past year) and will be very expensive in a trade. Honestly, I think his value is about dead even with Miller, but maybe a smidge less. Something like this would be fair I think: To Van: Weegar 2023 3rd To Fla: Miller That said, I'm not sure if they can re-sign Miller, so it may not fil their bill. Regardless, I think fans should be aware of just how valuable Weegar is. We're not talking about a 2nd pairing guy here--he's a bonafide top pairing guy who can play very heavy minutes and do anything. Additionally, because he's so good and has only one year left, he will probably be looking for a massive raise on his next contract, in the neighbourhood of $7.5M+ IMO, so this doesn't avoid a big contract coming up, it just transfers the issue from Miller to defense (if we were to move Miller for Weegar, which I'm not sure is what FLA wants).
  15. This could really come back to hurt the Avs. He was a solid 3rd line guy until this year, when he became a top 6 level guy. If he's back to scoring 40 points a year, that's a pretty penny for that production. He does provide defensive play, but I'm not sure it's enough to still justify the price.
  16. Linden was president for a while, but outside of that, I believe it was a vacant/unused position. It's possible that Benning's role changed once Linden left, but I'm not sure.
  17. Agreed. Hoglander was pretty bad this past year, but it's far too early to write him off. If he was 25 or 26, we could be having that conversation, but at 21, he's still got a lot of growing to do.
  18. They saw Panarin's points because of Kane too. I'm curious to see if Debrincat is Panarin 2.0 or if he really was relying on Kane.
  19. He was pretty solid as a rookie in both 2017-18 and 2018-19 at just 21 and 22 years old, which had a lot of people excited. That said, however, his numbers have steadily dropped year after year since then, so I would be a bit wary. Still, he's only 26 years old and might have a bounce back in him.
  20. Bizarre choice. Have to imagine there's more financial incentive to go to a crazy place like that right now.
  21. I'm not really a big fan of the NHL Network, but I do love how much they love Bruce.
