  1. Yes! Please buy him out! Please Sakic just pay the man what he wants. He's exactly the player we need to help the D. Can't leave all the puck moving to Barrie.

Um... There's a reason he was bought out instead of traded - nobody would take him.

The two years he played for the Canucks were the best of his career - putting up roughly half those numbers per year since. He is still a liability defensively - he was with the Canucks too but we were able to hide that a lot more than the Sabres could.

He will be picked up by another team no doubt, as he's still an NHL calibre defence man, but not worth the 4 mil Buffalo was paying him. I think someone will probably sign him for a short term deal worth 2.5-3 mil per year.

Pretty sure the reason was the insane recapture penalties the Sabres would have incurred if he retired early. They could have had 10 million in dead space one year right when they should be ready to really compete. Probably made it clear he didn't want to be there anymore as well.
  2. Tampa: Kucherov + 1st

    Detroit: Mantha + 1st

    Colorado: Rights to O'Reilly

    Anaheim: Etem + Ottawa's 1st (10th overall)

    Chicago: Teravainen + 1st

    Pittsburgh: Pouliot + 1st

If Colorado re-signs Stastny, ROR for Kesler makes a lot of sense for them. Likely saves 1.5 per year in cap, and not committing to another long term deal.

If Chicago doesn't win this year, they may want to shake things up for one last hurrah. Kane and Toews are both UFA at the end of next season, and are going to need BIG raises. But with that coming, they are probably more keen on shedding a big contract veteran (Sharp? Hossa?) than trading a player on a cheaper ELC.

No, it doesn't. That's a terrible deal. At this point O'Reilly is better than Kesler and doesn't come with anywhere near the injury concerns and baggage. O'Reilly is Roy's favourite player and it's already long since been reported it would take a huge overpayment to get him out of Denver. Vancouver isn't getting O'Reilly for Kesler unless a younger top 4 D is coming back as well. There's absolutely no incentive to trade him even if Stastny re-signs. Parenteau or McGinn and picks/prospects will be moved first and for D not an over the hill injury prone center.

  3. I didn't watch them most of the season, but in this series there were some real WTF moments with Hejda and E. Johnson. I never liked Johnson to begin with, of course in Game 7 he manages to score a goal ....

Minnesota just had more experience on their team, and Colorado's D would have been better had Barrie been in the line up.

The one thing I hated about the TSN crew is their analysis. They seemed puzzled regarding the drop in the top line's production after Game 2. Well, Barrie was a big part of that line's production, as he provided the outlet pass. I guess those geniuses forgot about that.

Losing Barrie just killed our transition game. As much as everyone was raving about Mack, Barrie played a huge role in the tying and winning goals in game one. Cooke for Barrie is a trade the Wild will make every time and it worked wonders for them. I give them full credit for being absolutely dominant for large parts of this series and they deserved to win based on the run of play but it will always leave a foul taste in my mouth because of that hit. Maybe they still pull this off without it and maybe they don't. Somehow lost in the whole thing was Cooke's attempted elbow to the head of Mack in game 3. It certainly looked like he was out to take out an important player to help his team and it worked.

Johnson has been great all year and sure picked a terrible time to just completely fall apart. Foote and Roy have just done wonders for his game and I'm confident he'll rebound and prove he really is a top pairing guy. He needs help on that back end. I think part of the problem was having to play him way more minutes that he should be. The D had a collective 12 games of playoff experience and it showed. Need to get him a better partner than Hejda or if he continues to play out of his mind then someone to play with Barrie. Would love to get a guy like Ehrhoff. Someone who can bring that puck moving element to to the top pairing as well.

  4. Avs just need to improve their defense and they will be a force. Varlamov could have been better too, but improving defence will help him. Good learning experience for them, they will be back.

Yea. The upside of this loss is it has to force Sakic and Roy to go out and get some veteran top 4 D as insurance. Maybe someone from San Jose will be available given this epic collapse. Varly needed to be better today but he bailed us out all year and it's high time to get him some help.

  5. Get outta here Avs with your terrible puck possession and unsustainable shooting percentage. Fancy stats crowd wins this round.

Totally different series if Matt Cooke doesn't take out Barrie. We spent large parts of this series without our top center, 3rd line center, and best offensive D. Lets see the Wild get to game 7 OT if they were missing Koivu, Brodin, and Haula.
