  1. So in the past Ovechkin has shown clear support for Putin, a political act if ever there was one. Now, after Putin invades Ukraine Ovechkin claims "I'm not in politics. I'm an athlete." He clearly still supports Putin, and thus the invasion. What an asshat. I've lost a great deal of respect for him over this. In Soviet Russia cake has you and eats you.

      Considering his family is in Russia he said about as much as one could reasonably expect.

       

      Previous support or not, I wouldn't take aim at Putin if my family was in Russia either.

      Yeah, he might be thinking about loved ones in Russia more than his actual political beliefs. Governments like the Russian one aren't exactly open to dissenting beliefs.
